Utter irresponsibility

Utter irresponsibility: That is how I see this situation. Hat tip to Texas Fred for the update. Anyone that follows me on the forums and blogs are more than aware that I support civilian ownership of Class Three weapons. This is not the place for that discussion though.

This is about responsibility, accountability, and just plain common sense. I have been to many “fun shoots” that involved fully automatic weapons. They were fun, and never have I seen any sort of mishap.

At this event though, people dropped the ball, and a boy died. Others are calling for the heads of those involved. Too a degree I also believe that there should be consequences. However, I do not think that the prosecution should be given free reign for a lynching, either figuratively or relatively. This was tragic for any and all involved.

Lets look at what the investigation reveals, and then take the necessary steps to minimize the chance that anything like this ever happens again, anywhere.

What am I talking about? Read the story here.

Fun they are… But those bastards letting an untrained 8 year old kid shoot it need to be hung..

I am not saying one word against Class III firearms, but this wasn’t about Class III OR the 2nd Amendment, it was about parental and range master responsibility, and in this case there was none…

If you put weapons in untrained hands, regardless of age or sex, sooner or later this sort of thing is going to happen. Also,it really don’t matter what type of weapon it is,althou fullauto is 1 classification that requires more weapon specific training. In my opinion,an 8 year old is just too damn young to shoot fullautos-ESPECIALLY without extensive training.
When I started out shooting, and in training my kids, grandkids, and classes,I always start them out on .22 single shot and proceed from there as they master it.

59 and never fired any full auto except in ITR….my boys have fired .38, .357, .45, and .40 since 8 years old…have no business with a full-auto in their hands…or being near one…this was a tragically bad judgement on the part of the father and the rangemaster….like letting a 5-year-old parachute jump solo…no way!!!
