Mission Accomplished? « Thoughts Quotes and Internet Fun

This is just one of the really good things about WordPress, you can expose idiots via the “Press This” feature. They moderate all comments, so as not to have to deal with such esoteric things as logic, reason, or actual knowledge. I am no  “Bush Bot,” as anyone that reads this blog, or numerous forums over the years well know. But, sometimes things just go beyond the pale. Like this particular statement being taken out of any sort of meaningful context to the point that it is a dead horse. Figure it out dingbat. That Aircraft Carrier, and those aboard Her, did in fact, accomplish their assigned mission.

Bush, as much as I despise his politics, never, to the best of my knowledge, has declared “victory.” Go crawl into a hole, and light a candle, open a book, and learn. Then, perhaps you can write a new version of “The Allegory of the Cave.”

Nope, he didn’t declare victory, he said ‘major combat operations have concluded’…

    Oops…

How would you define major combat operations? Had they indeed ended at that point?

This seems pretty clear to reaffirm the mission being accomplished in Iraq.

I would describe “Major Combat Operations” As Offensive Operations involving Brigade level forces supported by additional assets. Such as heavy aerial bombardment. Fred may have a different answer. Still, those Sailors and Marines had “made mission.”

Brad? I have never fully supported George W. Bush, period. he is an idiot when it comes to warfare, and this war has been going on for an awful long time.

I am an American. PFLP “Freedom Fighters” tried killing me, and a lot of American women in the early 70’s. Our Marines paid a terrible price in Lebanon. Other attacks over the years make the point clear. Those people want to kill us. Period. Mission accomplished that day on Israels Coastal Highway? Yes, we got out of there alive. Victory… Nope, nowhere near.

Will I sit around and let people so denigrate America that truth, reason, logic, or history means nothing at all? Nope.

“am happy to see you, an so are the long-suffering people of Iraq. America sent you on a mission to remove a grave threat and to liberate an oppressed people, and that mission has been accomplished. (Applause.)”
If that is the part that you are referring to, well, I guess Saddam et al being removed from power must never have been part of the mission.

But, you still seem to not understand that a mission, is not a war, or victory, in a military sense.
