The Thrill is gone: BB King

May 16, 2015

Yes, I know that this is a day or so late. Being a truck driver always seems to interfere with the important things in life. Like loading premium ammunition, tying flies, getting sharp objects in proper condition, and blogging!

So, while listening to Coast to Coast as I drove up the interstate in the middle of a raging storm I heard the sad news. B. B. King has passed on… Indeed, an era has come to an end. At least if you like The Blues as I do.

It started for me in 1968. Leonard Formosa, myself and someone else all decided to go to a Blues show. A rather marked departure from our normal Rock & Roll habits. I think it was in Solana Beach. The show had performers that reads like a history of the Blues.

There was a black woman that opened. Sorry but I don’t remember her name. What a voice! Then there was none other than Pork Chop. Followed by the master of the harp (harmonica) James Cotton. Then it was B.B. King…

Rest in peace BB, we will remember you and Lucille forever…

One Top Notch Gunsmith, and I call him BROTHER!

February 2, 2014

Please help out one of the best Gunsmiths alive that is getting back in the business after recovering from some disabilities.

More Information

Neil Sea is well known among many as an expert Gunsmith that can fine tune a Ruger’s trigger to the point that you might think that you just dropped the hammer on a Smith & Wesson that has a glass  tube trigger job. His work on rifles is renowned among a field that is crowded with talent. You read about minute of angle with other smiths work. Neil’s rifles shoot cloverleafs at two hundred yards, period! Stock work that is simply works of art. I simply cannot praise enough.

Amendments Offered in
Congress by James Madison
June 8, 1789

First. That there be prefixed to the Constitution a declaration, that all power is originally vested in, and consequently derived from, the people.

That Government is instituted and ought to be exercised for the benefit of the people; which consists in the enjoyment of life and liberty, with the right of acquiring and using property, and generally of pursuing and obtaining happiness and safety.

That the people have an indubitable, unalienable, and indefeasible right to reform or change their Government, whenever it be found adverse or inadequate to the purposes of its institution.

Secondly. That in article 1st, section 2, clause 3, these words be struck out, to wit: “The number of Representatives shall not exceed one for every thirty thousand, but each State shall have at least one Representative, and until such enumeration shall be made;” and that in place thereof be inserted these words, to wit: “After the first actual enumeration, there shall be one Representative for every thirty thousand, until the number amounts to ——, after which the proportion shall be so regulated by Congress, that the number shall never be less than ——, nor more than ——, but each State shall, after the first enumeration, have at least two Representatives; and prior thereto.”

Thirdly. That in article 1st, section 6, clause 1, there be added to the end of the first sentence, these words, to wit: “But no law varying the compensation last ascertained shall operate before the next ensuing election of Representatives.”

Fourthly. That in article 1st, section 9, between clauses 3 and 4, be inserted these clauses, to wit: The civil rights of none shall be abridged on account of religious belief or worship, nor shall any national religion be established, nor shall the full and equal rights of conscience be in any manner, or on any pretext, infringed.

The people shall not be deprived or abridged of their right to speak, to write, or to publish their sentiments; and the freedom of the press, as one of the great bulwarks of liberty, shall be inviolable.

The people shall not be restrained from peaceably assembling and consulting for their common good; nor from applying to the Legislature by petitions, or remonstrances, for redress of their grievances.

The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed; a well armed and well regulated militia being the best security of a free country: but no person religiously scrupulous of bearing arms shall be compelled to render military service in person.

No soldiers shall in time of peace be quartered in any house without the consent of the owner; nor at any time, but in a manner warranted by law.

No person shall be subject, except in cases of impeachment, to more than one punishment or one trial for the same offence; nor shall be compelled to be a witness against himself; nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor be obliged to relinquish his property, where it may be necessary for public use, without a just compensation.

Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.

The rights of the people to be secured in their persons, their houses, their papers, and their other property, from all unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated by warrants issued without probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, or not particularly describing the places to be searched, or the persons or things to be seized.

In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, to be informed of the cause and nature of the accusation, to be confronted with his accusers, and the witnesses against him; to have a compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor; and to have the assistance of counsel for his defence.

The exceptions here or elsewhere in the Constitution, made in favor of particular rights, shall not be so construed as to diminish the just importance of other rights retained by the people, or as to enlarge the powers delegated by the Constitution; but either as actual limitations of such powers, or as inserted merely for greater caution.

Fifthly. That in article 1st, section 10, between clauses 1 and 2, be inserted this clause, to wit:

No State shall violate the equal rights of conscience, or the freedom of the press, or the trial by jury in criminal cases.

Sixthly. That, in article 3d, section 2, be annexed to the end of clause 2d, these words, to wit:

But no appeal to such court shall be allowed where the value in controversy shall not amount to —— dollars: nor shall any fact triable by jury, according to the course of common law, be otherwise re-examinable than may consist with the principles of common law.

Seventhly. That in article 3d, section 2, the third clause be struck out, and in its place be inserted the clauses following, to wit:

The trial of all crimes (except in cases of impeachments, and cases arising in the land or naval forces, or the militia when on actual service, in time of war or public danger) shall be by an impartial jury of freeholders of the vicinage, with the requisite of unanimity for conviction, of the right of challenge, and other accustomed requisites; and in all crimes punishable with loss of life or member, presentment or indictment by a grand jury shall be an essential preliminary, provided that in cases of crimes committed within any county which may be in possession of an enemy, or in which a general insurrection may prevail, the trial may by law be authorized in some other county of the same State, as near as may be to the seat of the offence.

In cases of crimes committed not within any county, the trial may by law be in such county as the laws shall have prescribed. In suits at common law, between man and man, the trial by jury, as one of the best securities to the rights of the people, ought to remain inviolate.

Eighthly. That immediately after article 6th, be inserted, as article 7th, the clauses following, to wit:

The powers delegated by this Constitution are appropriated to the departments to which they are respectively distributed: so that the Legislative Department shall never exercise the powers vested in the Executive or Judicial, nor the Executive exercise the powers vested in the Legislative or Judicial, nor the Judicial exercise the powers vested in the Legislative or Executive Departments.

The powers not delegated by this Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively.

Ninthly. That article 7th be numbered as article 8th.

Wyoming Poised to Stand up to Federal Bans on Most Guns

At a time when Barack Obama is pushing legislation to ban millions of shotguns, rifles and handguns that Americans legally own — and possibly 100% of all magazines of whatever size — the Wyoming House recently said “no” to Obama’s gun control.
By a vote of 46-to-13, the state House passed House Bill 104, which would:
(1) Prohibit Wyoming law enforcement from enforcing unconstitutional federal gun bans with respect to semi-autos or Wyoming intrastate guns;
(2) Prohibit federal law enforcement from pursuing its unconstitutional ban in Wyoming; and
(3) Allow the state attorney general to defend Wyoming residents unconstitutionally persecuted by the federal government.
The ability of Wyoming to resist unconstitutional federal actions has always been important.
But now, with Obama legislation on the table which would ban most guns –- although Obama won’t admit it -– it becomes critical.
ACTION:  Contact your state senator.  Ask him to support House Bill 104.

Dear Senator:
At a time when Barack Obama is pushing legislation to ban millions of shotguns, rifles and handguns that Americans legally own — and possibly 100% of all magazines of whatever size — the Wyoming House recently said “no” to Obama’s gun control.
By a vote of 46-to-13, the state House passed House Bill 104, which would (1) prohibit Wyoming law enforcement from enforcing unconstitutional federal gun bans with respect to semi-autos or Wyoming intrastate guns, (2) prohibit federal law enforcement from pursuing its unconstitutional ban in Wyoming, and (3) allow the state attorney general to defend Wyoming residents unconstitutionally persecuted by the federal government.
The ability of Wyoming to resist unconstitutional federal actions has always been important.
But now, with Obama legislation on the table which would ban most guns –- although Obama won’t admit it -– it becomes critical.
Therefore, I am asking you to support House Bill 104.  Please let me know about your position on this critical legislation.
Sincerely,

It’s the Economy Stupid!

December 13, 2012

From far and wide it seems that all we hear is the hue and cry about how to fix the economy. I read about how we should be “fair” about taxing the “rich.”

That’s all fine and good if you are simply stuck on stupid. Think about it people. Who pays the lions share already when it comes to taxes? The upper middle class and the truly wealthy, that’s who. If everyone paid taxes at the same rate, yes, even welfare recipients, there would be no budget crisis. In fact though, taxes would probably drop to levels unheard of in modern times. Even on those of us that really are much better off than the rest of us.

But no, we would rather sit around and play the class warfare game. Answer me this socialist pundits. When was the last time that a poor person gave you a job? Any job, even a poor paying job? It’s called trickle down, or yes, up, economics. The system works, and yes, it is part and parcel of free market economic models. Before the lefty’s jump all over me about how we got into this mess through free market policies just remember that there has never, in all history been a true full economic system. From the Soviet Unions official Black Market to the unofficial black market there was a degree of capitalism at work there. Here in the United States we have onerous regulation that destroys most of what would be described as a free market. Leftest lawmakers dabbled in the free market, and guess what happened? You are living through it! Not to mention that we do indeed have a black market at work here as well. Drugs, weapons, and even tobacco products thrive in the era of taxation beyond the pale.

So what do we do? Turning over our own responsibilities to a bunch of elected officials that really are clueless is not the answer. Revolution, while quite attractive to many, would take generations to achieve the standard of living that we now enjoy to be achieved once again. Compromise, when addressing ones deepest held values is no virtue. In a nation so diverse as The United States those values may indeed be just as diverse. How do we address that Pandora’s box?

I submit that we should look to our own history for the answers to this all. Restore the original intent of The Declaration of Independence, The Constitution, and The Bill of Rights.

Here are just a few things that would get us headed back on the road to prosperity.

  • Reign in The Supreme Court. Rulings that serve only the interests of government and cronies have destroyed the actual owning of private property. The taking of civil rights for much less than true mental deficiency or felonious behaviors. Forcing the purchase of anything that is a private product that does not involve the safety of others are just a few examples.
  • End the drug war, period. All drugs, period. We could still have purity and efficiency laws for medicinals. Plus we would not be party to making thugs and murderers into millionaires. There will always be alcoholics and drug abusers and gangsters will always find some vehicle of prey but we will not be enablers to that on a national scale.
  • Develop a system whereby elected officials are subject to a performance evaluation that is more than simply winning an election.
  • End the barriers to new political persuasions entering the market of ideas. The Republicans and Democrats have had a free ride for way to long and have done little for anyone but themselves. As in the politicians themselves. Just look at how the Democrat Party has used and abused people of color, and how the Republicans have done the same to the working man.
  • Overhaul the education system here from top to bottom. I should not even begin to have to go into that issue!
  • Community Service: All people, unless gravely disabled, should be required to have spent some time in service to the nation. Be that as a volunteer in EMS, Firefighting, or Armed Forces or Police work. All persons I should reemphasize, no getting out of it because you are the son or daughter of a Senator such as happened all to often during the draft. I myself would like to see a two year mandatory period of service in the armed forces. Right out of High school, no deferments, no straight into any Officers program that includes basic training in Infantry skills. The national bonus to that is obvious. But that is just me.

I am sure that many will argue against what I just offered. Feel free to defend your positions. But, being a Marine Corps Brat, you had better have a better alternative to offer, and not just say that you don’t like this or that.

Keep the shiny side up!

WordPress decided that ease of use and finding new people in the arena of thought was not needed so they did away with global tags/categories some time back. We beg to differ! It’s now official: Taxation against the peoples will is Constitutional

June 28, 2012

The Supreme Court today released it’s verdict on the oh so blatantly UN-Constitutional ACA / obamacare act. They call it a tax.

If that is so then it is indeed time for a modern day tea party. One that includes a rather thorough tar and feathering for five supposedly intelligent people that set the rules that we all are supposed to agree upon living under.

But these are the very same idiots that believe that losing ones rights is not a punishment… Perhaps there is a cure.

  • Repeal obamacare in it’s entirity.
  • Pass another law that explicitly forbids the government from passing any law or regulation, or any other means of fiat that requires any person to purchase anything.
  • Force Supreme Court Justices to stand for election every ten years.

Just how much more of this kind of crap will the American People keep putting up with? Why? I ask, be a “Law Abiding Citizen” when those that Laird it over us themselves so distort the law that they are not abiding by it?

Libertarian or Conservative? Well, we warned you…

May 27, 2012

The seemingly never ending grab for power by the big government insatiable authoritarian types is an ongoing and never ending situation. Now, we have this to deal with…

CONGRESS DOUBLES DOWN ON AMERICAN DETAINMENT AS NEW BILL PROPOSES TO STRIP AMERICANS OF CITIZENSHIP

URGENT: A new bill before Congress proposes authority to strip any American of their citizenship – and God-given rights – if they are merely suspected of a hostile attitude toward the state.

TELL CONGRESS: WE WILL NOT TRADE OUR LIBERTY FOR YOUR TYRANNY! – SELECT HERE

Pundits and politicians keep repeating the same mantra, “no rights for terrorists,” but ask yourself, who defines terrorist and why should that opinion strip any American of their God-given Constitutional rights? What happens when the government decides the enemy is YOU?

Senators Joe Liebermann and Scott Brown are joined by Representatives Dent, Altmier and Latta in proposing the “Enemy Expatriation Act.” This proposed act, (HR 3166 and SB 1698), seeks to amend the Immigration and Nationality Act, (8 USC 1481), to add the following text “To add engaging in or supporting hostilities against the United States to the list of acts for which United States nationals would lose their nationality.”

To many, this language seems benign. First of all, the use of the word “national” seems to give the impression that the proposed punishment would only apply to American citizens who were “nationalized,” i.e. not citizens by birth. However, when we examine the language of 8 USC 1481, we find the law defines a ‘national’ as “A person who is a national of the United States whether BY BIRTH or naturalization.”

TELL CONGRESS: WE WILL NOT TRADE OUR LIBERTY FOR YOUR TYRANNY! – SELECT HERE

Now for the term “hostilities.” What exactly constitutes a “hostility” and/or a “hostile action”? After all, 8 USC 1481 already quite clearly defines who should have their citizenship stripped – anyone who commits actual formal treason and/or who takes up arms against the US. Why the need to add a single undefined word to this age old section of the US Code?

It appears, as with so many other things, this Congress chooses to simply leave the term “hostilities” open to interpretation. And herein lies the danger.

Ambiguity in the law is always dangerous. Considering the fact that Janet Napolitano’s Department of Homeland Security has already defined returning veterans, 10th Amendment supporters, pro-lifers and anyone with a 2 week supply of food as potential “rightwing terrorists,” this new ambiguous language leads directly to the likelihood of stifling our Constitutional right of free speech by labeling such speech and action as “hostile” and therefore punishable as “terrorist” and treason. As George Orwell famously penned, “In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.” Indeed, it appears that Senator Liebermann and his fellow conspirators agree.

TELL CONGRESS: WE WILL NOT TRADE OUR LIBERTY FOR YOUR TYRANNY! – SELECT HERE

Finally, let’s take a look at the proposed placement of the new language to be added to the existing US Code. While the existing US Code mentioned above does require a conviction of treason before citizenship is removed, the manner in which this new language is added means that the necessity of a conviction does not apply, in statutory terms, to the new language. In other words, if this new bill passes, no conviction will be necessary to strip Americans of their citizenship. Rather, all that will be required is an accusation of “hostility” by a Federal Government agent and voila, your citizenship is gone. The Government is then at liberty to treat you in any way they so choose in accordance with the laws of war. Waterboarding for praying in front of an abortion clinic, anyone?

This unconscionable landslide removing our civil liberty in exchange for the false lie of security must be stopped. This so called “Enemy Expatriation Act” is nothing more than NDAA Part II, when a tyrannical Government doubles down on shredding any concept of Habeas Corpus and the civil liberties enshrined in the Constitution – civil liberties paid for with the blood of our forefathers.

Benjamin Franklin warned us not to trade our liberty for the false promise of security. Yet the power mongers in Congress just keep trying.

TELL CONGRESS: WE WILL NOT TRADE OUR LIBERTY FOR YOUR TYRANNY! – SELECT HERE

We are rapidly approaching a time when the culmination of unconstitutional laws can and will be used against us. Under a pro-abortion president will we be rounded up and incarcerated for sidewalk counseling at abortion clinics? Under a “hawk” president, will antiwar protestors be locked in Guantanamo for merely holding picket signs and shouting their objections? This sounds extreme, but such legislation and seemingly benign rulings are exactly what have imprisoned legions of political dissidents throughout history and across the globe. Why should we imagine that we are immune to such tyranny? THIS BILL MUST BE STOPPED! HABEAS CORPUS MUST BE RESTORED NOW!

Only in America

May 22, 2012

1. Only in America could politicians talk about the greed of the rich at a $35,000 a plate campaign fund raising event.

2. Only in America could people claim that the government still discriminates against black Americans when we have a black President, a black Attorney General, and roughly 18% of the federal workforce is black. 12% of the population is black.

3. Only in America could we have had the two people most responsible for our tax code, Timothy Geithner, the head of the Treasury Department and Charles Rangel who once ran the Ways and Means Committee, BOTH turn out to be tax cheats who are in favor of higher taxes.

4. Only in America can we have terrorists kill people in the name of Allah and have the media primarily react by fretting that Muslims might be harmed by the backlash.

5. Only in America would we make people who want to legally become American citizens wait for years in their home countries and pay tens of thousands of dollars for the privilege while we discuss letting anyone who sneaks into the country illegally just become American citizens.

6. Only in America could the people who believe in balancing the budget and sticking by the country’s Constitution be thought of as “extremists.”

7. Only in America could you need to present a driver’s license to cash a check or buy alcohol, but not to vote.

8. Only in America could people demand the government investigate whether oil companies are gouging the public because the price of gas went up when the return on equity invested in a major U.S. oil company (Marathon Oil) is less than half of a company making tennis shoes (Nike).

9. Only in America could the government collect more tax dollars from the people than any nation in recorded history, still spend a trillion dollars more than it has per year for total spending of $7 million PER MINUTE, and complain that it doesn’t have nearly enough money.

10. Only in America could the rich people who pay 86% of all income taxes be accused of not paying their “fair share” by people who don’t pay any income taxes at all.

So, what do we actually have to do to get America back on the *straight and narrow* my friends?

PROGRAM HELPS YOUNG HUNTERS BAG FIRST BIRDS

MEEKER, Colo. – Three lucky young hunters from northwest Colorado bagged their first turkeys after being selected to participate in Colorado Parks and Wildlife’s 2012 Hunter Outreach Program’s Youth Turkey Hunt. The trio found success after spending some chilly, late April weekends enjoying a private land hunt and learning hunting strategies from their Colorado Parks and Wildlife mentors.

Ten-year-old Henry Musser of Meeker, 13-year-old Antoinette Dorris of Rangely and 10-year-old Tagerty Poole of Rifle were selected from a group of novice youth hunters that had recently completed their hunter education classes.

“To see the smiles on their faces and the fun they were having was fantastic,” said District Wildlife Manager Bailey Franklin, who coordinates the turkey hunt each year. “It’s truly a highlight of my career as a Colorado game warden.”

The focus of the Hunter Outreach Program is to pair young hunters with experienced veterans to help build knowledge and confidence, which is critical for beginning hunters. District Wildlife Managers Jon Wangnild, Mike Swaro and Terry Wygant were the primary guides for the youth participants again this year. The skilled wildlife officers taught the youngsters various hunting techniques including the use of calls to locate “gobblers” and how to identify turkey sign in the field.

Hunting access was provided by the Jensen Family Ranch properties, which are leased and managed by Rocky and Sparky Pappas and Travis Flaherty, K/K Ranch owners Bill and Ross Wheeler, Seven Lakes Lodge owner and professional golfer Greg Norman and landowners Lonnie and Todd Shults.

“We had increased interest and support from several landowners from Meeker this year which is very encouraging,” said Franklin. “Without them, these once-in-a-lifetime hunting opportunities would not be possible, and we are very grateful.”

In addition to the landowners, ranch employees donated their time to help make the hunts successful. Travis Flaherty of Jensen Family Ranch properties/Nine Mile Guest Ranch scouted and located turkey flocks and served as a guide for Swaro and one of the young hunters.  Brett Harvey and Rich Krauss of K/K-Wheeler Ranch, along with Tony Decker and Robert King of Seven Lakes Lodge, also provided valuable assistance.

To ensure that they received the best information and training, the aspiring turkey hunters were required to go through an additional half-day orientation where they learned more about hunter safety and ethics, state laws, wild turkey biology and hunting techniques

They received additional firearm training at the Meeker Sportsman’s Club shooting range, where they honed their shotgun shooting skills. The time and facilities were donated by the club, a long-time supporter of the Hunter Outreach Programs.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife loaned the young hunters youth model shotguns and turkey hunting equipment to participants that did not already have their own. The kids also received hunting gear, prizes and food for the hunt.

After successfully harvesting their mature gobblers, the youngsters learned how to properly field dress and care for their birds.

Although turkey hunting has seen a rapid growth in popularity across the country, the overall number of hunters and anglers nationwide has declined every year since 1990, according to research conducted by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The reasons include a lack of places to hunt and fish busy lifestyles and a lack of mentorship from an older, experienced hunter.

The Hunter Outreach Program provides skills seminars, clinics, mentored hunts and online articles and information as a means to encourage the public to learn and apply their new skills in hunting and angling.

“Our goal is to expose novice hunters of all ages to a quality experience and give them basic skills so they will continue with the sport into the future,” said Statewide Hunting Outreach Coordinator Jim Bulger. “Without the help of private landowners and other stakeholders, we’d be unable to provide that experience.”

Landowners who are interested in supporting Colorado Parks and Wildlife’s 2013 youth turkey hunting program or any other  youth hunting program in northwestern Colorado are encouraged to  call the Meeker office at 970-878-6090.

Youth and parents interested in learning more about youth hunting opportunities can also call the Meeker office and request an application for upcoming youth hunts.
