I’m going to risk censure with this post because I’ve thought for a long time that the general attitude of “Everybody does it. Or, both sides are just as bad.” Is a divisive trope the media uses as a release valve to prevent authentic reform.
The MSM has cultivated this thought process to dilute or mask the reality of how bad our Establishment has really become. That corruption is not just a matter of Media Bias, but the Media provides cover for the systemic corruption to exist.
I know, I know, that reads likes a tribal phrase. However, can anyone legitimately argue that Hillary Clinton is the same as Trump, Bush, Rubio, Cruz et al?
I don’t think so. But, the media has made a moral equivalency that just doesn’t exist. The Media Plays “Whack-a-mole” with whomever appears to upset the establishment apple-cart and then crushes or co opts them.
The corruption of our society, which we mostly try to deny, is systemic. Example: Joe and Hunter Biden: almost half of our country are in full blown denial that their nepotism is corruption. After all, if you can get away with what the Bidens have done there is no corruption. Right? After all – Joe openly declares that this has been investigated and he and Hunter have been absolved right? What investigation? Where? Who conducted it?
The Clinton’s, Harry Reid, Dennis Hastert, Trent Lott, Senator Menendez, were all clearly corrupt and indicative of a systemic problem. Yet, because we are allegedly a “nation of laws” the public simply cannot keep up with the ongoing specifics of corruption so nothing is done and the swamp gets murkier.
Political Corruption we seem to be aware of and constantly accuse the other side of yet ignore it in our midst. We are a ‘Black Swan’ away from a total melt down.
Congress as a whole has a 13% approval rating. But Incumbents are re-elected 9/10 times.
What reasonable person would argue that the Clinton’s are not corrupt?
Trump was elected to “Drain the Swamp.” His attempts to do so have created a 3 1/2 year histrionic reaction to his unconventional style. It’s not style the Democrats and Never-Trumpers are upset about. They are upset about substance masked by their aversion to his style that they resist. We now know the Mueller Report was bogus. The Public is picking up on this as well.
Trump is correct to take this on head-on. Trump should be even more direct. He is no longer confronting political opposition. He is now confronting open sedition which in Mueller 2.0 is actually a coup de etat. The Left and Never Trumpers are openly trying to overthrow his Presidency because he is getting too close to upsetting the normal way of doing business in DC.
If “everybody does it” were true Obama would have been impeached. No legitimate Political opponents of Obama ever advocated for impeachment in the same way Nancy Pelosi and Adam Schiff are doing.
I don’t believe Trump or his administration is scandal-free. I am no sycophant. But, I do believe the systemic corruption in our politics is predicated on the Clinton’s 30 year seeding of the politics of corruption and co opting of the Establishment Right to the degree that Populist Grassroots America needs to use the less than perfect to destroy the systemically evil – which I obviously concede has elements of both Left and Right within it.
