An Op/Ed from Fred Witzell
Let me preface this by saying; I am 64 years old…
Regarding the shooting in Florida on Feb 14th I have to say, I am shocked and saddened, not just because of the deaths and injuries but also because of the reactions, the incredibly STUPID reactions and comments I have seen all over the ‘net..
When I was in high school in Louisiana back in the late 60’s and early 70’s we, and this nation to the best of my memory, had no *mass shootings* in schools… And I remember that during hunting season most of us guys had a shotgun and/or rifle hanging in the gun rack in the back window of our pickup trucks because as soon as the bell rang we were headed to the woods, not to shoot at each other or the property of others, but to hunt wild game for the freezer and dinner table…
It was what we did…
I know most, if not all of the folks I went to school with have similar memories, many of them are here on Facebook and on the USGOA page as well, and again, I never knew of anyone committing heinous acts of murder… I hope my high school buddies make comments on this post too..
Times have indeed changed since my teenage years, and speaking just for me and mine, my kids didn’t grow up to be murderers, they did grow up to be decent citizens that are raising their children the right way though…
Gun control, gun confiscation and ammo restrictions are a joke, an unworkable fallacy concocted in the minds of Liberals that want to control YOU, not your guns… Again, guns are being used as a TOOL, by the Left…
Liberals that have taken the medium of film and television, and now video games and social media, and bastardized them all, making it appear to be totally acceptable to do what you want, when you want and however you want, and I blame many parents for not having the guts to take charge of their families and raising their children correctly…
I blame those that push for the legalization of drugs for being greatly responsible for actions such as those seen recently…
I blame those that call for the confiscation and destruction of all guns, but most of all, I blame the shooter. His parents may have been failures, his Antifa cohorts may have influenced him greatly, but ultimately, he, the shooter, was solely responsible for HIS actions…
This was NOT a *gun issue*, the gun didn’t commit the crime, some angry, brain-dead Antifa moron used a gun as a tool of violence and death, ONE GUY, and the Liberal Left blames every gun owner in America for this act…
We have serious social issues in America my friends, but the blame MUST be placed where it belongs, THE GUN DIDN’T DO IT, Pres. Trump didn’t do it, the NRA and millions of legal, law abiding gun owners didn’t do it…
The Left, if they had the ability to actually think, needs to consider that…
