Coloseum Software Corporation has developed software that will help dealers
record all of the information that is unconstitutionally required by the
federal government — and to keep that information in a way that insulates
them from bogus prosecutions at the hands of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco,
Firearms and Explosives (aka The Gang).

The document that is most often involved in “gotcha”
injustices is the Form
4473 which all customers must fill out when buying from a licensed federal
firearms dealer — a requirement that is yet another unconstitutional
imposition by the feds.

One of the favorite tricks of the BATFE has been to pounce on trivial
customer errors such as writing “Blto” instead of
“Baltimore” on the 4473
Form. One dealer supposedly showed his willfulness in breaking the law when
his clerks missed some sixty-plus instances when customers tried to
“sneak”
Blto past those eagle-eyed inspectors from The Gang.

While this does nothing to fight crime, it has allowed The Gang to reduce
the ranks of dealers by some 85 percent since the Clinton presidency.

The genius of Coloseum’s software is that it allows a dealer to walk a
customer through the Form 4473 without making a single mistake. With an
electronic signature, the computer’s form can be printed, providing a
perfect 4473 available for The Gang to inspect.

A foolproof way of filling out the 4473 would reduce the number of dealers
put out of business. That’s the advantage of using the Coloseum software.

So Coloseum approached the BATFE several months ago to discuss its plans to
release the first eForm 4473. The company wanted to make sure that it was
complying with all applicable federal laws and get the agency’s approval for
the product.

The BATFE wanted to see the details of the program, which left the directors
at Coloseum a bit hesitant, as companies are reticent to expose the details
of a product before it’s released to the market place.

No problem, Coloseum was told. The agency would protect the details of
their product.

Well, that was a lie.

The Gang assigned a liaison, Ms. Melinda Whitworth, to work with Coloseum.
She dealt with the company for several weeks, asking many detailed
questions. Again, Coloseum was led to believe that, if they worked with Ms.
Whitworth, they would get approval for their product.

Well, one of the Gang’s representatives called for a meeting with Coloseum
— a meeting which took place earlier this month. It was at that meeting
that Coloseum was told by an ATF agent that, “The BATF is in the
process of
creating our own technologies.”

Coloseum asked for clarification — did that mean that BATFE was developing
its own software, similar to Coloseum’s? “Yes” was the response.

James LaMonte, the CEO and founder of Coloseum Software Corp. was
dumbfounded. “As a small business owner, I never would have thought that
our biggest competition was the United States Government,” he told Gun
Owners of America.

After all, the IRS does not publish a “government version” of
Turbo Tax.
It’s private companies that produce such products for public use. The Gang,
as it is so apt to do, was once again trampling on the little guy.

Oh, and what about their “liaison,” Ms. Whitworth? At the
recent meeting,
Coloseum found that Ms. Whitworth — who was supposedly helping the company
get ATF approval of its software — was in charge of the team that is
developing the copycat software at ATF.

Ms. Whitworth even had the effrontery to apologize for not having developed
a product as good as Coloseum’s.

Here is the bottom line. If The Gang gets their software out to dealers
(probably for “free”) before Coloseum gets to market, then
the government’s
stolen version of the software is public domain. No one would ever need to
buy Coloseum’s intellectual property.

Coloseum is sending a free copy of its product to dealers so they can
install the software on their store computer. If dealers need additional
copies for a second or third computer, they can buy additional copies, as
well. Hopefully, dealers will pounce on this opportunity.

What Coloseum is doing is unprecedented. And so, it seems, is the blatant
thievery brazenly carried out by The Gang.

If dealers decide they just want to use the Bureau’s software, they should
first consider that they will be getting a much inferior product. Moreover,
The Gang’s software means that the government will have unrestricted access
to all of the dealer’s business records because it will allow
“back door”
access by the ATF. This kind of untrammeled access of all dealer records
would not be possible with Coloseum Software.

It is long overdue that President Bush clean house at the BATFE. He needs
to fire the Acting Director of the Bureau and command that employees destroy
their stolen property.

ACTION: Please send the email message below, urging the President to rein
in the BATFE.

Dear President Bush,

Gun Owners of America has told me of the outrageous theft of intellectual
property that has been perpetrated by the BATFE against Coloseum Software
Corp.

Please fire Acting Director Michael Sullivan and command the Bureau to
destroy all copies of their stolen software.

The BATFE is an agency out of control. Please take charge and rein them in.

— Elections will produce tremendous impact on gun owners’ rights

With the election less than one month away, Gun Owners of America is
doing its best to keep gun owners informed about who is protecting your
rights in the Congress.

Many gun owners are familiar with the differences between the candidates
at the presidential level, but how well do they know the views and actions
of those who are running at the congressional level?

On the campaign trail, almost no candidates for Congress admit to being
against gun rights, making the tasks of compiling the Gun Owners of
America congressional candidate rating both more difficult, and more
important.

GOA determines grades for candidates first based on any past voting
record. Then, all candidates receive a detailed questionnaire. But what
about those with no record and who were not open enough to return a
questionnaire that would reveal their true colors?

In past elections such candidates could be assigned grades by simply
going to a campaign website. Learning what a candidate thought about
issues like banning “assault weapons” and waiting periods for
handgun
purchases was lurking behind a button labeled “gun control.”

Not any more. For one thing, it’s virtually impossible to find a link that
says “gun control” on any campaign website. If a candidate
mentions gun
rights at all (and most don’t) it is usually in the context of
“protecting
Second Amendment rights.”

A reader will find comments such as this one, referring to the recent
Supreme Court decision striking down the gun ban in the nation’s capital:

“I agree with the Supreme Court’s interpretation last week that an
absolute prohibition against gun ownership violates the Second
Amendment right for citizens to bear arms.”

That may sound good at first blush, but a careful reading will reveal
that this statement — made by a former mayor who had considered
joining other cities in suing gun makers out of existence in 1999 — is
almost meaningless.

Facing this kind of doublespeak, it is especially important that voters
take advantage of tools like the 2008 Gun Owners of America voter
guide.

The stakes are high in this election, as they always are. The main
focus is on the presidential race. If elected, Barak Obama would be the
most anti-gun president this country has ever seen, and his
vice-presidential candidate Joe Biden is just as bad. John McCain has
been all over the map on the gun issue, but he did choose a stellar
pro-gun running mate in Sarah Palin.

While the White House may be up for grabs, liberal Democrats are in
firm control of both chambers of Congress.  With all the media
attention on the race at the top of the ticket, it is important to
remember that it is in the Congress where most of the battles over
gun rights occur.

GOA’s Voter Guide will soon be landing in mailboxes around the
nation. But you can also view an online version of this guide at:

http://www.gunowners.org/votetb08.htm

GOA hopes you will make use of this valuable tool and share it with
your family and friends. Please distribute this e-mail far and wide.
Thank you!

Are You A Bitter Clinger?

Who is a Bitter Clinger? According to Sen. Barack Obama, who was
recorded unawares at a San Francisco fundraiser, bitter clingers are
voters who are bitter because of their economic frustration and so cling
bitterly to their Bibles and their guns.

If you are a bitter clinger, Gun Owners of America has a T-shirt for you!

You can proudly proclaim your membership in this class of people so
looked down upon by the elites in our country.

SAF SETTLES NEW ORLEANS LAWSUIT

October 12, 2008

BELLEVUE, WA – The Second Amendment Foundation has reached an agreement with the City of New Orleans in a 2005 federal lawsuit that stopped the city from seizing firearms in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

The landmark lawsuit, a joint effort by SAF and the National Rifle Association, was filed in September 2005 after police and National Guardsmen began confiscating firearms without warrant or probable cause from citizens who were not suspected of committing any crimes. Under terms of the settlement, which now awaits a judge’s signature, the city must try to return all firearms that were seized. Gun owners will be notified by mail within 30 days of the court’s approval that they can retrieve their guns.

“While we are delighted that this case is now settled,” said SAF founder Alan Gottlieb, “it should never have been necessary. When a disaster strikes, no government entity or official should arbitrarily decide that citizens must be disarmed and left defenseless, and that is what happened in New Orleans. These gun seizures were conducted without legal authority, under color of law and often at gunpoint, and that must never be allowed to happen again anywhere on American soil.

“What happened in the days after Hurricane Katrina was an outrage,” he continued. “We hope this permanent injunction sends a signal to mayors and police chiefs everywhere that we live in a nation of laws, and those laws are not subject to their whims. You do not suspend Constitutional rights just because of a storm or earthquake or some other natural or man-made disaster.

“We are proud to have partnered with the NRA on this effort,” Gottlieb stated. “This is not simply a victory for SAF or NRA members in New Orleans, but for all American gun owners. Despite indifference and obstruction by the city, perseverance has prevailed.”

State Senator Tom McClintock is a pro-gun champion running for
Congress in California's 4th District.

Gun Owners of America Political Victory Fund is proud to support
Sen. McClintock and urges gun owners from across the country to
get involved in this race.

Observers familiar with Golden State politics know Tom McClintock
well -- thanks to his more than 25 years of conservative activism and
his leadership role in the recall of anti-gun Governor Gray Davis.

Throughout his career Tom has never wavered in his support for
Second Amendment rights, and he will bring proven and effective
pro-gun leadership to Congress. But Tom needs your help to win.

Anti-gunners from San Francisco to Washington, D.C. are targeting
Tom for defeat and pouring in tons of money. It will not be easy to
beat back this onslaught, but if we all get behind Tom we will have
something to celebrate in November.

It takes money to win elections. Please visit
http://www.tommcclintock.com/donate to make the most generous
contribution possible. Your contribution of $25, $50, $100, or even
$1,000 will help to ensure a pro-gun ally wins this election.

If you prefer to mail a check, a donation form can be downloaded at
http://www.tommcclintock.com/donate and mailed to:

McClintock for Congress
1700 Eureka Rd Ste. 170
Roseville CA 95661

Even if you do not live in California, Tom will speak for you as he
stands up against the most anti-gun House Speaker in history, Nancy
Pelosi, and the rest of the anti-gun leadership.

Gun owners and sportsmen need reliable voices to represent them in the
U.S. Congress. Tom McClintock has a lifetime "A" rating by both Gun
Owners of America and Gun Owners of California.

Throughout his career, Tom has worked in the trenches fighting for our
constitutional liberties. He practices the kind of leadership we need in
the U.S. Congress.

This is a winnable seat for Tom -- if it were not I would not be writing
this e-mail -- but it cannot be won without the resources to counter
Nancy Pelosi and her anti-gun allies.

Tom McClintock will fight for you in Congress, so please help him win
this election.

Please go to http://www.tommcclintock.com/donate and encourage
your pro-gun family, friends, and gun club members to do the same.

Thank you for your support of Tom McClintock for Congress, and for
standing with Gun Owners of America in support of the Second
Amendment.

Sincerely,

Tim Macy
Vice-Chairman

John McCain is in trouble..?

October 7, 2008

For some strange reason I never thought John McCain was never out of trouble with conservatives. Lets run down a list of the reasons why beginning  with his ratings on gun control from GOA since 2000 he has never garnered better than a C-and more recently F- has been the case. The list against McCain is long so I will post links to those things that are the most important to me.

Those things are only a few of a very long list of why he is not good for America…

Research trumps rhetoric

October 5, 2008

This is something that all the gun owners that I know were well aware of, but it is nice to have some solid research to back up your beliefs.

NEW STUDY SAYS GUN SHOWS DO NOT BOOST HOMICIDES, SUICIDES

BELLEVUE, WA – The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms today applauded a new joint University of Michigan – University of Maryland study that says gun shows do not contribute to higher murder or suicide rates.

“We’ve known all along that gun shows are not the arms bazaars for criminals and lunatics that anti-gunners have claimed,” said CCRKBA Legislative Director Joe Waldron. “This important research has now confirmed that such gatherings are not connected to homicide or suicide rates. The study reinforces earlier research done for the Department of Justice that found less than one percent of armed felons get their guns from gun shows.

“Gun control lobbyists are already claiming the report is flawed,” he continued. “What else would they say about research that demolishes one of their most hysteria-driven platforms? The tide is turning on the gun rights issue, because research trumps rhetoric every time.”

The study, released Wednesday by the UM’s Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy, compared data from Texas and California, two markedly different states. Researchers gathered crime and suicide data from the periods surrounding more than 3,400 gun shows to determine that restrictive regulations had no impact on murder or suicide rates in the month following those gun shows.

“This research punches a gaping hole in the argument by gun control fanatics that a mythical ‘gun show loophole’ contributes to crime and suicide,” Waldron stated. “Thanks to this study, the anti-gun rights lobby loses another cornerstone of its agenda. For years, no matter what the crime, gun banners have invariably reacted by suggesting that added restrictions on gun shows would somehow have prevented it.

“As our friends at the Michigan Gun Owners have noted, we wonder why it took someone this long to conduct such a study,” Waldron noted. “Our hats are off to the UM’s Prof. Brian Jacob, along with the University of Maryland’s Randi Hjalmarsson and Mark Duggan. Theirs is a significant accomplishment.”

Backlash to Obama officials squelching political speech

September 29, 2008

Barack Obama’s commisars in Missiouri went overboard when they threatened to use government power to suppress views opposing his stated proposals. As reported by World Net Daily several Missiouri officials, St. Louis County Circuit Attorney Bob McCulloch, St. Louis City Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce, Jefferson County Sheriff Glenn Boyer, and Obama and the leader of his Missouri campaign Senator Claire McCaskill” were all a part of this blunt attempt at stiffiling free speech.

This is yet another example of why a completely new political party is so desperatly needed if this nation is to survive.

A BIG Hat tip to Texas Fred! For finding this story! 😀

Obama Campaign Threatens Legal Action Over NRA Ads-

September 28, 2008

Campaign and DNC Launch Assault On First Amendment!

Earlier this week, NRA-PVF released a series of radio and television spots to educate gun owners and sportsmen about Barack Obama’s longstanding anti-gun record.  In response to the NRA-PVF ads, a clearly panicked Obama campaign and the Democratic National Committee (DNC) are doing everything they can to hide Obama’s real record by mounting a coordinated assault on the First Amendment.

They have gone to desperate and outrageous lengths to try to silence your NRA by bullying media outlets with threats of lawsuits if they run NRA-PVF’s ads.  They have sent intimidating cease and desist letters to cable operators and television stations, threatening their FCC licenses if they run the ads.

NRA stands behind the accuracy of these ads, and NRA attorneys have responded to the Obama campaign’s despicable and abusive attempt to trample on the First Amendment by sending a thorough rebuttal to station managers. This rebuttal clearly and conclusively refutes the Obama campaign’s fallacious claims that the ads are inaccurate. For more information, and to see the letter, please click here.

To learn the truth about Barack Obama’s anti-gun record, please visit www.GunBanObama.com. This website is loaded with features and information that you, as a gun owner, need to know. This is a must-see website that you will want to pass along to anyone you know who loves freedom and supports the Second Amendment. While you’re there, don’t forget to take the “OMatch,” compatibility quiz to see if you and Barack are a match.

House Passes Bill To Repeal D.C. Gun Ban

September 18, 2008
Gun Owners of America E-Mail Alert

Wednesday, September 17, 2008

Thank you so much for your activism!

Today, the U.S. House of Representatives opted to pass Representative
Childers' D.C. gun ban repeal instead of the anti-gun bill sponsored by Del.
Eleanor Holmes Norton -- which would have allowed D.C. to continue enacting
gun control.

The bill now goes to the Senate, but unless there is a ton of pressure put
on Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), the bill will languish in committee.

Thankfully, Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) is spearheading an effort to
get a vote on the House-passed bill. She is asking her fellow Senators to
cosponsor a letter which she will then deliver to Sen. Reid.

The Hutchison letter points out that, "In DC v. Heller, the court
affirmed
that the District of Columbia's ban on ownership of handguns was an
unconstitutional restriction on that right."

After noting that D.C. has continued to deprive its residents of their
Second Amendment rights for more than 30 years, the letter asks Sen. Reid
"to ensure that D.C. residents do not have to wait any longer to realize
their constitutional rights by allowing the full Senate to consider H.R.
6842 before the 110th Congress concludes."

(Norton's bill was the original HR 6842, but it now contains the Childers
pro-gun language instead -- thanks in no small part to your efforts.)

There are not many days left before Congress recesses for the remainder of
the year, and Sen. Reid is expected to try to run out the clock on the D.C.
repeal bill. That's why it's important to act quickly and contact your own
two U.S. Senators.

This is the last chance we have this year to put some teeth into the Supreme
Court's decision in Heller. Gun Owners of America will score the signing of
this letter in its upcoming congressional rating.

ACTION: Please contact your two Senators and ask them to cosign the
Hutchison letter to Senator Reid. You can visit the Gun Owners Legislative
Action Center at http://www.gunowners.org/activism.htm to send your Senators
the pre-written e-mail message below. And, you can call your Senators at
202-224-3121 or toll-free at 1-877-762-8762.

----- Pre-written letter -----

Dear Senator:

I was happy to see that the House of Representatives voted for the Childers
substitute language which will repeal the D.C. gun ban (HR 6842).

I recognize that there is not much time left in the legislative session, and
so I hope you will do everything in your power to pressure Majority Leader
Harry Reid to bring up HR 6842 for a vote.

Hence, I urge you to cosign by Friday the Hutchison letter which urges Reid
"to ensure that D.C. residents do not have to wait any longer to realize
their constitutional rights by allowing the full Senate to consider H.R.
6842 before the 110th Congress concludes."

Gun Owners of America will score the signing of this letter in its upcoming
congressional rating. Please let me know how you intend to act.

Sincerely,
