The National Rifle Association sells out Gun Owners Again

June 10, 2007

The National Rifle Association sold out the American Constitution  again. Negotiating yet again with Democrat neo-communist forces leads only too more restrictions placed upon the American people.

The story can be found at http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19146984/ but it is not the whole story.

As usual, the devil will be in the details. This bill is being ramrodded through, and that normally means that the Senators do not want you or me to know what is in it.

I will be looking into this more deeply, and I can assure you that I will turn up the heat when full discloser is made.

Immigration Bill

More of the same old politics. Write a Bill about one thing, then cram in unrelated things.

First, there was the McCarthy-Dingell bill. The folks on Capitol
Hill have been telling you we need HR 297, a bill to greatly expand
the Brady Law. They say it will stop future Virginia Tech shootings.
And, oh yes, there’s one more thing: they want you to believe the
McCarthy-Dingell gun control bill isn’t really gun control.

Now, they want to bring you an anti-gun immigration amnesty bill.
Already you’re hearing it’s not really an amnesty bill. (Yeah,
right.) So don’t be surprised if they tell you it’s not an anti-gun
bill either.

Forget, for a moment, the fact that the immigration package
negotiated in the Senate could grant amnesty to up to a hundred
million illegal aliens who have flaunted our laws.

Forget, for a moment, that it would pull the rug out from under the
growing number of states that have vetoed the anti-gun National ID
bill passed by Congress in 2005.

Forget, for a moment, that the bill will strengthen existing laws by
requiring all legal Americans (like you) to own a National ID card
before you can get a job.

In addition to all these things, the bill could, in the hands of an
anti-gun administration, result in the closing of every major gun
store in America.

GUN CONTROL IN THE IMMIGRATION BILL

Senator Ted Kennedy and the anti-gun zealots who wrote the bill just
couldn’t resist the temptation to get their hands on our guns. They
have included language that GOA has been able to defeat in the past.

When Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT) introduced these anti-gun provisions
in 1998, the GOA grassroots were able to convince seven senator
cosponsors to pull their names from Hatch’s bill.

At the time, The Hill newspaper credited GOA with having “generated a
significant number of postcards” into Senate offices. “The
defecting
[seven] senators, echoing the concerns of the GOA, are apprehensive
about the violation of Second Amendment rights,” reported The Hill.

The current language in the amnesty bill is only slightly different
from Hatch’s original language almost 10 years ago, but it would
essentially do the same thing — threaten every gun store in America.

In Section 205, for example, all it takes for the employees of a gun
shop (of five or more persons) to become a “criminal gang” is:

* For them to commit two or more violations of ANY federal felony gun
offense — which includes virtually all gun offenses, including
paperwork violations; and

* For the anti-gunners to find that violating gun laws was a “primary
purpose” of the group.

So let’s say your local gun store sells two or three firearms to
Mayor Bloomberg’s thuggish agents under New York City’s
extraterritorial “sting” operations. Your gun shop is now a
“criminal gang.”

This provision could even be used against a family of five who drives
by two schools on the way to a movie with a gun in the glove
compartment. Certainly under a Hillary administration, it would not
be surprising to see them treat this infraction as a “felony” under
the weird language of Gun Free School Zones Act. Thus, you and your
family would become a “criminal gang.”

OTHER PROBLEMS IN THE IMMIGRATION BILL

There is still no official immigration bill — that is, the working
draft does not have an official senate number. The draft was
concocted by senators who put it together behind closed doors, all
the while bypassing the normal committee process.

While this unofficial draft has been “the buzz” around the country
this past week, several things have been overlooked. One thing, to
be sure, is the threat to gun owners’ rights mentioned above. But
also ignored is the fact that the negotiating draft imposes draconian
penalties for those who live in states that have the audacity to veto
the National ID card (which passed as part of the REAL ID Act of
2005).

If you live in a state such as Montana, Maine, Idaho, etc. which has
passed legislation opposing the government’s efforts to turn your
driver’s license into a National ID card, YOU COULD BE DENIED
EMPLOYMENT OF ANY SORT.

Gun Owners was already concerned about this law — which has yet to
be implemented — because of the threat it poses to gun owners’
privacy. But now the immigration bill will go even further by
requiring all present and future private sector employees to be
screened by the Electronic Employee Verification System (EEVS).

And in Section 1(a)(4)(i) of the draft legislation, the bill allows
for EEVS approval of your continued employment only if your private
employer meets “strict standards for identification documents that
must be presented in the hiring process, including the use of secure
documentation that contains a photograph, biometrics and/or complies
with the requirements [of the] REAL ID Act….”

Hence, no National ID card… no job.

ACTION: Please use the letter below to contact your Senator. You can
use the pre-written message below and send it as an e-mail by
visiting the GOA Legislative Action Center at

are also available).

—–Pre-written letter—–

Dear Senator:

Why does the Congress seem bent on pushing gun control every chance
it gets? First, there was the McCarthy-Dingell bill in the House (HR
297) that would greatly expand the Brady Law. We don’t need more gun
control as a response to Virginia Tech shootings. We need to repeal
the gun free zones that turn people into mandatory victims!

Now, the Senate wants to sneak gun control past us in the form of an
immigration bill. The Senate immigration package is a horrid piece
of legislation in such a wide variety of respects.

But, in addition to everything else, section 205 could, in the hands
of an anti-gun administration, PUT EVERY MAJOR GUN SHOP OUT OF
BUSINESS.

All it would take is for the shop to commit two felony paperwork
violations — and an anti-gun administration willing to find that
this was a “primary purpose.”

Similarly, a family driving to church or to the movies — with a gun
in the glove compartment — could be a “criminal gang” if it passed
two schools, and an anti-gun administration determined that
protecting his family was one of the father’s “primary purposes.”

Again, I urge you to OPPOSE the immigration package as long as this
anti-gun language remains in the bill.

Sincerely,

TVC Motor Clubs Are A Pro-gun Alternative To AAA

GOA endorses this motor club as an alternative to AAA — which
supports the equivalent of no-knock entry for motorists. That is,
AAA supports what are called primary seat belt laws which enable
motorists to be pulled over for that alone. This only increases the
risk of an officer asking about guns and doing an illegal search.
TVC does not support such legislation.

Executive Director Larry Pratt has been pleased with their service.

Gun Control…

In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
——————————
In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
——————————
Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated
——————————
China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
——————————
Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
——————————
Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
——————————
Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one million ‘educated’ people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
—————————–
Defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because of gun control: 56 million.
——————————
It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by their own government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500 million dollars. The first year results are now in:

List of 7 items:
Australia-wide, homicides are up 3.2 percent
Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6 percent
Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)!

In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent. Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not, and criminals still possess their guns!

While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months, since criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed.

There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the ELDERLY. Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was expended in successfully ridding Australian society of guns. The Australian experience and the other historical facts above prove it.

You won’t see this data on the US evening news, or hear politicians disseminating this information.

Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding citizens.

Take note my fellow Americans, before it’s too late!

The next time someone talks in favor of gun control, please remind them of this history lesson.

With guns, we are ‘citizens’.
Without them, we are ‘subjects’.

During WWII the Japanese decided not to invade America because they knew most Americans were ARMED!

If you value your freedom, Please spread this anti-gun control message to all of your friends and post it on your sites…

San Francisco Proposes New Gun Control Measures

San Francisco Proposes New Gun Control Measures

Simon Perez
Reporting

(CBS 5) SAN FRANCISCO San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom hailed new proposed city gun legislation, and he did it Wednesday from the neighborhood most plagued by gun violence.

“Enough is enough,” said Newsom in the city’s Bayview district. “We need common sense gun control.”

The announcement came nearly one year after a judge struck down a law banning handgun possession in the city.

One part of the measure outlaws the possession or sale of guns on any city-owned property, expanding the current ban from buildings like City Hall and schools to include outdoor locations like city parks.

Mayor Newsom said he also hopes to extend the ban to public housing complexes, but federal laws may make that complicated.

The proposed legislation would also require people who commit crimes with guns to sign up with the police department, then probation officers could keep better tabs on them.

Another aspect would require all gun owners to store their guns disabled with a trigger lock or placed in a locked-box. Authorities said lock boxes would help to keep legal guns from being stolen and then later used illegally.

“It is fair to say that a majority of gun crime is committed with illegal guns,” District Attorney Kamala Harris said. “It’s a reality that a lot of weapons and guns that we find in connection with a homicide are stolen.”

The idea, she contends, is to remind legal gun owners how to behave.

“Just because you legally possess a gun in the sanctity of your locked home doesn’t mean that we’re not going to walk into that home and check to see if you’re being responsible and safe in the way that you conduct your affairs,” Harris said.

San Francisco’s only gun shop is also a target of the proposed legislation, which would require it and any future gun shops in the city to send police officials a gun sales list every six months.

Even though criminals already don’t follow the law, city leaders believe any gun crackdown makes the city safer.

“It’s just time and it’s the right thing to do,” said Harris, citing existing laws in Alameda and Los Angeles counties that are similar to the proposed ones for San Francisco.

Dingell, McCarthy, Working on ‘Compromise’ Gun Bill

May 19, 2007

Gun Owners of America E-Mail Alert8001 Forbes Place, Suite 102, Springfield, VA 22151Phone: 703-321-8585 / FAX: 703-321-8408 http://www.gunowners.org/ordergoamem.htm “The Gun Owners of America [has] already launched a public campaignto block the legislation that the NRA supports, warning that theproposal could ‘block millions of additional, honest gun owners frombuying firearms.'” — Newsweek, April 24, 2007 ACTION: 1. It is imperative that you contact your Representative immediatelyand urge him to oppose the McCarthy/Dingell bill. A “compromise”[read: gun control] deal is in the works and all legislators –especially those who are pro-gun — need to hear from gun ownersright away. GOA members have received a mailing from us within the past week, asking them to send postcards to their U.S. Senators. It isIMPERATIVE that you mail those postcards in. We want to increase theheat on these legislators by deluging them with thousands ofpostcards. Now, once you’ve sent in those postcards, we would askyou to e-mail the specially-tailored message that is included belowalong with contact information. 2. Please circulate this alert to all your pro-gun friends andfamily, and encourage them to take action as well. Wednesday, May 16, 2007 Anti-gun Rep. John Dingell (D-MI) continues his assault on Americangun owners. Dingell has been tapped by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to broker acompromise with Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) on H.R. 297, a gun controlbill being pushed in the wake of the Virginia Tech shooting. The bill provides about $1 billion to the states to “provide theNational Instant Criminal Background Check System [NICS] with allrecords concerning persons who are prohibited from possessing orreceiving a firearm… regardless of the elapsed time since thedisqualifying event.” As GOA has pointed out in previous alerts, this could lead tomillions more Americans being included in the FBI’s database ofprohibited persons. Dingell, being a former NRA board member, is in a unique position inthe Congress on Second Amendment issues. Despite the fact that hebetrayed gun owners by supporting the Clinton semi-auto ban, he isstill viewed on the Hill as one of the few pro-gun Democrats. So his support gives the bill the appearance of having the support ofgun owners, when actually it is the most massive expansion of guncontrol in over a decade. McCarthy, of course, is the most notorious anti-gunner in theCongress. Her sitting down with Dingell to decide the fate of ourgun rights is like two foxes deciding how to best guard the henhouse. To make matters worse, Dingell is in negotiations with the NRA tocome up with a ‘compromise’ as quickly as possible. The NRA itself told Newsweek in an exclusive interview on April 24that the group “backs [the] proposed new legislation” in the House. Newsweek reported, “The NRA’s position puts the group at odds withthe Gun Owners of America, which has already launched a publiccampaign to block the legislation that the NRA supports, warning thatthe proposal could ‘block millions of additional, honest gun ownersfrom buying firearms.'” Politicians always seek to pass laws in the aftermath of a tragedy,as if one more law will stop evil people from doing evil deeds.Instead of passing more and more laws that ultimately will snuff outour liberty, we should consider repealing gun control laws thatprevent citizens from defending themselves when a madman strikes. CONTACT INFORMATION: You can visit the Gun Owners Legislative ActionCenter at http://www.gunowners.org/activism.htm to send yourRepresentative the pre-written e-mail message below. And, you cancall your Representative at 202-225-3121 or toll-free at1-877-762-8762. —– Pre-written letter —– Dear Representative: Gun Owners of America informs me that H.R. 297, a colossal guncontrol bill, is on the fast track. I strongly urge you to opposethis bill. The Virginia Tech tragedy, which Rep. Carolyn McCarthy is using totry to push this bill, highlights the failure, not success, of guncontrol. Instead of passing yet more laws that restrict my Second Amendmentrights, Congress should consider repealing the failed gun controllaws already on the books — laws that increasingly result inlaw-abiding adults being disarmed just when they need their guns themost. Please oppose the McCarthy bill, H.R. 297, and let me know what youintend to do. Taking aim at guns

May 19, 2007

Last week, we reported on a new Virginia law which prohibits exactly the kind of sting operation run by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who blames guns from Virginia for crime in New York City. At first, the Mayor appeared ready to buck the law in Virginia, but now it appears he will abide by it. That hasn’t stopped a gun-rights group, The Virginia Citizens Defense League, from holding the “Bloomberg Gun Giveaway” in Annandale, Virginia—two free guns were awarded in a gathering to thumb noses at Mayor Bloomberg.

In Illinois, the state senate passed a bill this week that would ban the sale or ownership of gun magazines that hold more than ten rounds. Thomas Mannard, executive director of the Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence said, “This is a significant step in our efforts to reduce the lethality of firearms sold in Illinois and reduce the risk that weapons that can accept high-capacity ammunition magazines pose to Illinois communities.” Apparently, it’s that 11th round that is the really dangerous one. Oh, and one can buy such magazines in all surrounding states.

An apparent Texas-size quandary has arisen in the Lone Star State regarding the possession of firearms on private property. A state senate bill would allow concealed-handgun carriers to keep guns in their cars on business owners’ lots. Gov. Rick Perry said, “I think it makes sense for Texans to be able to protect themselves from deranged individuals, whether they’re in church, or whether on a college campus or wherever they are.” However, some Republicans are squeamish about the idea of telling property owners that they can’t determine who or what comes on their property. Then again, criminals are not concerned with committing violent crime on private property. The “guns are scary” mentality is the reason potential victims are the only people being disarmed.

Hat Tip to the Patriot Post!

Old Dead White Men

May 9, 2007

All to often, the phrase “Just a bunch of Old Dead White Men” enters into the political and historic debate. It often takes the form of  the concept of the “Living Constitution.” Which is something that I simply detest. The Constitution simply never died. It’s DNA never has changed, only the meaning has been changed to suit to people of the times. In direct confrontation of the principles enshrined within the founding documents. Be that reading something into those writings, or saying that the founders never foresaw what happens in this day and or age.

Well guess what? Those old men were a lot brighter than most people give them credit for. The ideology of liberty and freedom always remains the same. Our friends over at “The Patriot Post” have once again blazed a trail in understanding just what thought went into making the final drafts. Specifically they have updated the Federalist Papers. The originals are also available for side by side comparison.

Available at http://patriotpost.us/histdocs/inotherwords/ I urge any and all to peruse what is there.

Illinois County Says NO To Gun Control

May 8, 2007

Illinois County Says NO To Gun Control

By Warner Todd Huston on May 08, 07

The Media was all a frenzy on the debate about gun control right after the VT killings cynically attempting to push their Constitutionally illegal gun banning ideas on a grieving public. But one Illinois County has bravely decided to make moves to protect their 2nd Amendment rights with action by the County Board.
The Pike County Board has adopted a resolution that will oppose any sort of gun control measures that infringe on the right to keep and bear arms adopted by the state of Illinois. A brave move in a state controlled by a gun grabbing, extreme left leaning Democrat Party orchestrated by a Mafia infested Chicago mayor who lately moves the State legislature around like a chess player.
Mayor Daley has been trying to manufacture gun banning laws for decades, but had been stymied by a state legislature with enough Republicans in it to throw a monkey wrench into his anti-Constitutional plans. But, since the 2006 election, the state has fallen under the spell of the Democrat Party that easily controls all aspects of the state. And Daley controls the Democrat Party, for the most part, as nearly all the members of state government in key positions are from Daley’s old Chicago cabal.
Pike County is apparently afraid of what this Democrat controlled government will try to do now that the state GOP has made themselves utterly ineffective. In a 7 to 2 vote, the County Board passed the resolution that will be forwarded onto the state government in Springfield and the rest of Illinois’ County governments.
Perhaps it is catching on as neighboring Brown County has already adopted a similar resolution.
The Board overwhelmingly stated that they had become afraid that new gun grabbing legislation being proposed in the state capital would threaten their Constitutional rights. And in a County that depends on the hunting industry to bring in a much needed stream of revenue, the new ideas floating about the state legislature is a danger to the County. Not to mention the sheer unconstitutionality of it all.
“What we are trying to do here is protect rights we already have,” said board member Robert Kenady.
Pike-Adams Sportsmen’s Alliance President Richard Metcalf said, “This is about freedom. This is not a political issue. I’m not here as a conservative, a liberal. You’re not here as a Republican, a Democrat. We’re here as Americans.”
So, good for Pike County. Let’s hope that enough other Illinois Counties stand up for their Constitutional and natural rights that Mayor Daley is stymied in his illicit efforts once again.
Such a resolution is a perfect way to let the gun grabbers in the state legislature know how the grass roots, common citizens are feeling about their efforts. It is a great thing that Pike County isn’t just rolling over and allowing the state boys push them around.
Way to GO!
