ACORN: Nuts by another name…

February 27, 2010

What to do when you are a criminal organization that operates in the open and uses various “methods” for political and social “advancement?” At least as they see it? Why, change your name, and carry on as usual of course!

Around the Nation: ACORN Cracks Up

The friendly neighborhood nuts at ACORN are back in the news, but reports recounting the demise of the community organization may be a little premature. Offices across the land are turning out the lights and turning off the phones. One ACORN official wrote in an e-mail, “Last one to leave turn out the lights and wipe the server.”

However, many of ACORN’s administrators, employees and structure have been simply re-branded: The New York Communities for Change, New England United for Justice in Boston, and so on. Each group will continue to be intertwined and work in concert, just under new identities.

Former ACORN officials are still bitter about the apparent demise of the organization, blaming “a pro-corporate agenda” and “a 24-hour propaganda channel” for exposing ACORN’s zeal to assist bootstrapping criminals. Nor are leftists spared ACORN’s wrath, as one observer noted that the movement “stood by while ACORN got gutted.”

In either case, the agenda will be the same once the successor organizations get on their feet, just in time for the 2010 elections. The fundraising is already under way and former ACORN leaders hope a new set of names will allow them to escape public scrutiny.

ACORN and Obama: more sleaze…

December 2, 2009

Just when you thought it was over, more sleaze, and more corruption, at least implied…

House Republicans accused the Obama administration Tuesday of covering up criminal activities committed by the embattled community activist group ACORN, saying that the president has used the group as an illegal political tool to help himself and other Democrats get elected.

“The current administration is fast becoming, in reality, the war room of ACORN’s political machine,” said Rep. Darrell Issa, California Republican. “I am concerned that the era of corruption promulgated by ACORN and protected by the White House is just the beginning.”

The top Republican on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, said ACORN has engaged in “illegal, partisan activities designed to help individual Democratic members.”

ACORN: Organizing the community one prostitute at a timeACORN — A Tough Nut to Crack

The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) bills itself as “the nation’s largest grassroots community organization of low- and moderate-income people.” Its mission is typical leftist activism — anything from advocating for a higher minimum wage and the type of home loans that precipitated the housing crisis to ballot initiatives and voter registration. We know that ACORN has also submitted fraudulent voter registration forms filled out by “Mickey Mouse” and other fictional characters. But, hey, “get out the vote” knows no bounds. Also, Barack Obama worked alongside ACORN during his own “community organizing” days.

This week, news broke that the Census Bureau, which had planned to partner with ACORN in next year’s census, severed all ties with the organization. Then the U.S. House and Senate each voted to deny the group access to further federal housing funds (though who knows what will happen in Conference Committee). Even the Obama White House “distanced” itself from this taxpayer-funded organization.

So why all the fuss? If inquiring minds read only The New York Times, they might be in the same blissfully ignorant boat as ABC News anchor Charlie Gibson, who, when asked about the ACORN scandal, claimed, “I don’t even know about it.”

The story began when two young conservative activists, James O’Keefe and Hannah Giles, posed as a pimp and a prostitute seeking advice on obtaining a loan for a home to use as a brothel, evading income tax on the young woman’s income and claiming as dependents underage El Salvadoran girls they wanted to employ. In five different ACORN offices (Baltimore, DC, New York, and San Diego and San Bernardino, California), workers bit on the story, hooker, line and sinker, freely giving pointers without so much as batting an eye on how to get illegal loans and evade taxes. The videos are posted on Andrew Breitbart’s None showed concern for the obvious implication of child abuse.

The Times, however, with the motto “All the News That’s Fit to Print,” didn’t find anything fit to print until days later, and then only with the laughable headline, “Conservatives Draw Blood From Acorn.” As Charlie Gibson condescended, “[M]aybe this is just one you leave to the cables.”

The truly unfortunate thing is that ACORN has received more than $50 million in taxpayer dollars since 1994 and was set to receive $8.5 billion in “stimulus” cash. Most Democrats are feverishly turning off the funding spigot before this scandal drags their own political skeletons out of the closet. For the record, however, seven senators voted to continue funding this criminal enterprise, and, not surprisingly, they’re all Democrats: Sheldon Whitehouse (RI), Dick Durbin (IL), Roland Burris (IL), Kirsten Gillibrand (NY), Bob Casey Jr. (PA), Patrick Leahy (VT) and self-proclaimed socialist independent Bernie Sanders (VT). In addition, 75 (yes, seventy-five) House Democrats voted to continue throwing our money at the group. Space doesn’t permit us to list the names of these disgraceful twits, but has them for all to see.

One of the ACORN workers did tell O’Keefe, “Honesty is not going to get you the house.” Perhaps she meant “House” with a capital “H.” In any case, O’Keefe and Giles deserve a medal.

On Cross-Examination

“Good thing I wasn’t drinking coffee when I read the Politico headline about Team Obama trying to run away from ACORN: ‘W.H. distances from activist group.’ Choking. Up. With. Laughter. Barack Obama can no more disown ACORN than he could disown his own shadow. He IS ACORN. And ACORN is him. The ‘accountability’ that White House flack Robert Gibbs says they take ‘extremely seriously’ doesn’t extend to Team Obama itself — and the accountability they have evaded for pouring more than $800,000 into an ACORN front group for campaign advance work that was mysteriously re-classified as ‘get-out-the-vote’ work. As for the ACORN ‘advisory committee’ that will ‘audit’ the group’s illicit activities, I repeat: Choking. Up. With. Laughter.” –columnist and blogger Michelle Malkin

From the ‘Non Compos Mentis’ File

“The truth remains that thousands of New Yorkers who are facing foreclosure depend on charitable organizations like Acorn for assistance.” –Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY)

But as Investor’s Business Daily argues, “The fact is that this ‘charitable organization’ helped precipitate the mortgage meltdown that shattered the economy. It was Acorn, under the cover of the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA), that intimidated banks through mob action into making risky loans in the name of ‘fairness’ to people who could not afford them. The tactics, taken straight from the pages of Saul Alinsky’s ‘Rules for Radicals,’ were used by Acorn as early as 1991, when it took over the House Banking Committee room for two days to protest efforts to scale back the CRA.”

Fundraising for “nobel” causes…

May 21, 2009

This is sort of a rant. I got to thinking about it after reading this in the Denver Post. For years I worked as an activist for several conservation organizations as well as some with political agenda’s. One day while working near Deckers myself and a few other volunteers were talking as we cleared brush.

At some point I made the comment that the group that we were working for was getting as bad as the NRA. Specifically, that you never heard from them without some desperate plea for yet  more money. The entire world would come to an end if you didn’t donate even more money.

The sensationalism that seemed to be requisite for each of these pleadings was always dramatic. I remember thinking once that I knew what retired psyops people did after retiring from the military; they went to work as fundraisers.

Don’t get me wrong, I am well aware of the fact that it takes money to get things done in nearly all cases no matter what the project is. I don’t mind one iota that I gave money to the National Wild Turkey Federation, and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. Habitat is a key factor in wildlife sustainability, and  in my mind, both of these organizations are top notch. As is the Isaac Walton League, and Gun Owners of America.

What ticks me off though is when you give money to this or that group, and you never see any results. Heck! You never even see them trying! I could easily understand trying, and failing. Sometimes things just do not work. But? When you have an organization that basically rolls over and gives in to the opposition I get pretty angry about it. When the NRA rolled over on the issue of supporting ex post facto law via the Lautenberg Domestic Violence Act I blew my top, and that is putting it mildly. I’ve not given them a penny since, and I will not ever support them monetarily until they put the full force of the NRA into getting that abomination off the books. That, is why I support Gun Owners of America to the hilt as regular readers know. Trout Unlimited has pulled similar shenanigans over the years, and I never donate to them any longer as well. This list could go on, and on…

When it comes to donating for causes the phrase caveat emptor simply cannot be overstressed. The recent unveilings about ACORN shows that shysters come from every bent and cause.

The ACORN whistleblower testifying in court is dropping bombshells.
Yesterday I reported that more than half of the ACORN voter registrtations were invalid.

A lawyer for a whistleblower on the activist group ACORN is prepared to tell a House panel Thursday that the group provided liberal causes with protest-for-hire services and coerced donations from the targets of demonstrations through a mob-style “protection” racket.

ACORN called it the “muscle for the money” program, according to prepared testimony Pittsburgh lawyer Heather Heidelbaugh plans to deliver at a hearing of the House Judiciary subcommittee on the Constitution, civil rights and civil liberties.

A copy of her prepared testimony was obtained by The Washington Times.

The protest shakedowns are among a slew of accusations that Ms. Heidelbaugh intends to make against the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now. She also will accuse the nonprofit group of violating tax, campaign-finance and other laws by sharing a list of President Obama’s maxed-out campaign donors to solicit more funds for a get-out-the-vote drive.

The accusations, which are based entirely on sworn court testimony late last year by ACORN whistleblower Anita Moncrief, range from unlawfully coordinating campaign activity with Mr. Obama’s presidential campaign to deliberately engaging in voter-registration fraud and misusing federal grant money.

ACORN officials say none of the charges is true, though they declined to respond to any of the separate claims.

“None of this wild and varied list of charges has any credibility, and we’re not going to spend our time on it,” said Kevin Whelan, ACORN deputy political director. He said the group’s voter-registration drive succeeded in bringing many disaffected minority and low-income voters into the democratic process.

Ms. Heidelbaugh, a member of the executive committee of the Republican National Lawyers Association, spearheaded an unsuccessful lawsuit last year seeking a court injunction in Pennsylvania against ACORN’s voter-registration drive for the 2008 presidential campaign.

Republican members of the committee invited her to appear as a witness.

Ms. Moncrief, who worked for years as a clerk at the ACORN office in the District before being fired for charging about $2,000 in personal expenses on an ACORN credit card, is not scheduled to testify. Ms. Heidelbaugh said the whistleblower will be present as a guest at the hearing.

The prepared testimony described two facets of the “muscle for the money” program, an official and unofficial program.

The “official” program is the name of the ACORN voter-registration drives. The Obama campaign paid an ACORN affiliate group more than $800,000 for these get-out-the-vote services during the primary race, though the expenditure was initially misrepresented to the Federal Election Commission as for “sound and lighting equipment,” but later corrected.

The “unofficial” program collected payments to organize protests. For example, the Service Employees International Union hired ACORN to harass the Carlyle Group, a global private equity firm. Other paid protests targeted Sherwin-Williams, H&R Block, Jackson Hewitt and Money Mart, according to the testimony.

FLASHBACK:  ATLAS EXCLUSIVE: Obama paid out  at least $2,250,000 to the SEIU, the Service Employees International Union – the nation’s largest labor union and the latest ‘criminalized’ org to  be exposed in the this Democrat scandal of enormous proportion. And SEIU COPE-PAC spent  $13,355,389.00 on behalf of Barack Hussein.

SEIU 880 endorsed Obama for Presidency. Obama, Blagojevich, ACORN, Rathke, Gamaliel (Obama was a former GAMALIEL organizer)

The protests then became a way to extract corporate donations.

“The protesting was used to get companies to negotiate. The companies would pay money to get the protesting to stop,” Ms. Heidelbaugh said, quoting Ms. Moncrief’s court testimony. “In addition to calling this activity ‘Muscle for the Money,’ the insiders at ACORN called it ‘protection.’ ”

The hearing likely will rekindle criticism of the financial ties and close cooperation between Mr. Obama’s campaign and ACORN and its sister organizations Citizens Services Inc. and Project Vote.

The groups came under fire during the campaign after probes into suspected voter fraud in a series of presidential battleground states, including Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, New Mexico and Nevada.

H.R.1388 “The Give Act” Mein Führer Requires YOU to SERVE 3 Years

March 19, 2009

Stolen from Tracy at NoCompromise! Great work woman! 😀

NC Reminds:  Americans have a right to associate with whomever they choose.  This law WILL BE struck down as unconstitutional as it forces one to a form of slavery! Big bubby will not tell my children or me where to serve if we choose not to serve a Marxist regime!  I choose where I will volunteer!  PERIOD!

hat tip to Git-R-Done

pimpf“Arbeit macht frei” is a German phrase meaning “work brings freedom” or “work shall set you free/will free you”

NC reminds:  No!  The TRUTH shall set you free NOT working for some bloated gub’ment!

This is up for a vote on Tuesday.

When “volunteerism” becomes required, then it is no longer volunteerism. It becomes slavery! Here is the link to the bill:
H.R. 1388:

This is the equivalent of brown shirts and the “Arbeit macht frei” It has provisions for youth as well as seniors and everybody in between. This bastard (Hussein) has got to be stopped! It’s all in the Saul Alinsky book too.

Obama Requires YOU to SERVE, H.R.1388, “The Give Act” to reform the National Service HR 1388, will hit the House floor on Tuesday. It is called the Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education Act (The Give Act.) The House is scheduled to Rule this week. Sponsored by Democrat Representative Carolyn McCarthy (NY), Education and Labor Committee. The objective is to reauthorize and reform the national service laws.

Happy Fascist!

Happy Fascist!

Democrat Rep. McCarthy is sponsoring the bill with 25 co-sponsors, ALL Democrats, including Charlie Rangel, need I say more? Latest Major Action: 3/11/2009 House committee/subcommittee actions. Status: Ordered to be Reported (Amended) by the Yeas: 34 and Nays: 3.

NC Reminds:  The gub’ment DOES NOT POSSESS a RIGHT to REQUIRE individuals to give three years of their time to some “service”.  Show me this right!

The Government has the right to require individuals to give 3 years service under the guise of “volunteer” service. It talks about uniforms and “camps.” They revise the word “camps” and call it “campus.” There is also language about Seniors and Community organizations.

¤¤¤¤ ¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤ ¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤ ¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤ ¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤ ¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤ ¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤

Above the gates as you enter, it says: Arbeit Macht Frei, work will set you free. Man is capable of such wrong doing in the name of a cause, again and again through out history a charismatic man promises eutopia at the cost of abhorrent acts as a means to it.

¤¤¤¤ ¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤ ¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤ ¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤ ¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤ ¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤ ¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤ ¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤

Some language in the Bill is particularly disturbing like:

“leverage Federal investments to increase State, local, business, and philanthropic resources to address national and local challenges;
encourage national service efforts to address pressing national challenges, such as improving education for low-income students, increasing energy conservation, and improving the health, well-being, and economic opportunities of the neediest individuals in the Nation;
expand and strengthen service-learning programs through year-round opportunities, including during the summer months, to improve the education of children and youth and to maximize the benefits of national and community service, in order to renew the ethic of civic responsibility and the spirit of community to children and youth throughout the United States;
increase service opportunities for our Nation’s retiring professionals
encourage members of the Baby Boom generation to partake in service opportunities
Civilian Community Corps shall be called the “National Civilian Community Corps”
the Director determines appropriate “Uniforms”
Take note of the Miscellaneous Section (Title VI) of the Bill. Very Strange!!!
Sec. 601. Amtrak waste disposal. -Sec. 602. Exchange program with countries in transition from totalitarianism to Democracy. Here is the Obama spin on it:  This is an article from the Department of Education and Labor.
I am concerned about “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.” This Bill doesn’t sound like FREEDOM to me no matter how you dress it up.

BELLEVUE, WA – ACORN, the publicly-funded national organization linked to voter fraud in several states is now actively interfering with the exercise of firearm civil rights in New Jersey, and the Second Amendment Foundation is calling for an immediate federal investigation.

“ACORN has, since 1998, received an estimated $31 million in government funding,” said SAF founder Alan Gottlieb. “Now they have intervened in a New Jersey gun rights case in defense of an illegal Jersey City one-gun-a-month ordinance that violates the state preemption statute.

“For the past few election cycles,” Gottlieb noted, “ACORN has clearly grown more partisan toward the political Left. ACORN’S PAC has endorsed Sen. Barack Obama for president. That’s hardly surprising since he used to serve as their legal counsel and he taught the group about community organizing. ACORN and Obama are lockstep in seeking to destroy our Second Amendment rights.

“The organization is currently under FBI investigation over allegations of voter fraud in several states,” he added. “Bad enough that ACORN is implicated in fraudulent activities in several states, but now an ACORN chapter in the Garden State is working against the ability of New Jersey gun owners to exercise a constitutionally-protected individual civil right to own a handgun.

“It is an outrage that this group has intervened to defend an anti-gun ordinance that has already been declared illegal by the court,” he observed. “So long as ACORN accepts one penny of public funding, the organization should remain absolutely neutral on social issues, political campaigns and especially legal actions defending the right to keep and bear arms.

“We call upon the FBI to expand the scope of its ACORN investigation and focus on the group’s involvement in the Jersey City case,” Gottlieb stated. “We support Ohio Congressman John Boehner’s request that the White House immediately block all federal funding of ACORN activities until this group’s questionable activities are fully investigated. We want to know how they are paying for attorneys, and why Seton Hall’s Center for Social Justice and the Public Interest Law Center are providing legal assistance to ACORN for this effort.

“This is still the United States, not a socialist gulag” Gottlieb concluded. “Public money should not be given to private organizations which then turn around and utilize that funding to usurp the electoral process and erode constitutionally-guaranteed civil rights.”
