Utter irresponsibility

December 4, 2008

Utter irresponsibility: That is how I see this situation. Hat tip to Texas Fred for the update. Anyone that follows me on the forums and blogs are more than aware that I support civilian ownership of Class Three weapons. This is not the place for that discussion though.

This is about responsibility, accountability, and just plain common sense. I have been to many “fun shoots” that involved fully automatic weapons. They were fun, and never have I seen any sort of mishap.

At this event though, people dropped the ball, and a boy died. Others are calling for the heads of those involved. Too a degree I also believe that there should be consequences. However, I do not think that the prosecution should be given free reign for a lynching, either figuratively or relatively. This was tragic for any and all involved.

Lets look at what the investigation reveals, and then take the necessary steps to minimize the chance that anything like this ever happens again, anywhere.

What am I talking about? Read the story here.

Mumbai… Some people just never learn

December 3, 2008

Gun control simply turns areas into free fire zones; as has been noted on this blog since the beginning some two and a half years ago. I personally called them that ( places where guns are not allowed) years before John Lott, or anyone else made the phrase famous. I did that in letters to the editor, at public gatherings, and before State Senators and Representatives in the Colorado House. All to no avail. What was my degree of success? I can sum it up in one word; Columbine.

Mumbai India, heck, India in general is yet another place where this has been made so painfully obvious. As noted by another blogger in another part of the world, refusing to allow for effective defense only results in blood baths.

I have a question. When will Al Qaeda or another group filled with blood lust strike a place here in the United States in the manner that the terrorist did in India? I have a hint for their planning department. Choose a place like New York City or San Fransisco where the citizens are not allowed to properly and effectively defend themselves and their loved ones. Mayor Blooberg’s office should be avoided though. Seems that the Honorable Mayor has more than enough armed help on and around the premises. He is entitled to that, after all, his blood is more precious than that of a black baby in Harlem’s is. Perhaps the offices of The New York Post. They have been telling New Yorkers that they are to stupid to be allowed to own firearms for years. They prefer for rapist’s and others of that ilk to be armed rather than some young mother that actually has a need to be armed.

The Election is not over yet

December 2, 2008

As much as most of us wish that the election was over it is not. There are still races that could determine whether the forces of freedom will prevail in some small measure. Or if the socialist juggernaut of the Democrats will simply steam roll us all into some reworked version of the Soviet Union.

Gun Rights in Jeopardy
-- All Eyes on Georgia Senate Race

Your gun rights may be hanging in the balance, depending on the
outcome of elections in Minnesota and Georgia.

The Democrats currently control 58 seats in the Senate. If they get
to 60 (the number needed to overcome a filibuster), it will be nearly
impossible to stop the gun control agenda of incoming President
Barack Obama.

The Minnesota Senate race between radical anti-gunner Al Franken and
pro-gun Sen. Norm Coleman is coming down to the provisional and
absentee ballots. Sen. Coleman's lead of fewer than 200 votes is
slipping away, while Franken and his legal team are busily trying to
steal the election.

With the growing possibility of Democrats getting to 59 Senate seats,
all eyes are now focused on Georgia.

Pro-gun Senator Saxby Chambliss is in a tight December 2nd run-off
election.

Saxby is "A" rated by Gun Owners of America. His opponent, Jim
Martin, refused to respond to the Gun Owners of America candidate
survey, but he has an anti-gun record from his days in the Georgia
State House.

No wonder that Sen. Charles Schumer, the anti-gun extremist from New
York, is so excited about this race. Schumer, who heads the
Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, is pouring tons of money
into Martin's campaign.

But the stakes are much higher than just getting another anti-gun
Senator. If Democrats can get to the magic number of 60, the minority
Senators will lose their ability to stop any gun control legislation
that is anointed by the leadership. Therefore, a world of
possibilities opens up for anti-gun Senators like Dianne Feinstein,
Chuck Schumer, Dick Durbin and Frank Lautenberg.

President-elect Obama and the Senate leadership know what is at stake
in Georgia. That's why they’re descending on the state by the
thousands and pouring in millions of dollars.

Pro-gunners need to do the same. If Saxby loses this seat, there
will be dire ramifications for years to come. Without the ability to
stop the anti-gun leadership, we could see:

* The reauthorization of the Clinton gun ban;
* Legislation to close down gun shows;
* A ban on .50 caliber rifles;
* Massive expansions of the NICS background check system;
* More and more gun stores put out of business;
* Ratification of an anti-gun UN treaty;
* Lock-up-your-safety requirements like personalized handguns, and
more.

Gun owners, sportsmen and anyone concerned about the erosion of
liberty in this country should engage in this battle in Georgia.

If you live in or near Georgia and can volunteer to make calls, knock
on doors, etc, please call or e-mail the Chambliss campaign right
away. Go to http://www.saxby.org for contact information.

Saxby also needs the financial resources to reach as many voters as
possible in the final days before the election. Please go to
http://www.saxby.org/contribute.aspx to contribute to the Chambliss
campaign.

This race is extremely close. Senator Saxby Chambliss has stood with
gun owners in the U.S. Congress. It's time for us to stand with Saxby
now. Please visit http://www.saxby.org to help Sen. Chambliss win
this election.

Bloomberg is a hopeless hoplophobic

December 1, 2008

Zillionare NYC Mayor Bloomberg is a hopeless hoplophobic. Some people are simply beyond any cure when it comes to certain things. Not only is Bloomberg a power mad nut case he is determined to force his will upon the rest of the country as well.

It is entirely in character then to pick on an ignorant (with regards to firearm safety) football player. He simply cannot allow those that are charged with the responsibility of enforcing the law to do their jobs without his pedantic micromanaging.

To the people of New York City I have this to say. If your leaders cannot trust you with weapons why is that? Do they fear rebellion? If so why? Are they afraid that you actually might be smart enough to make life and death decisions without their meddling in your lives? Do you think that you are too stupid to make your own choices? Is that famous Yankee Spirit a threat to them for some reason?

Mayor Bloomberg, I am sure is well aware that unarmed people are serfs, while armed people are citizens. What is it called when only the government is armed?

I don’t carry a gun…

November 16, 2008

Some things never seem to change. Yet, others seem to go through metamorphism, grow, and just get better with age. Fine wine and Irish whiskey come to mind as well as tough old Boone and Crockett Bull Elk. Syd, over at Front sight Press takes this to new heights.

Hat tip to TexasFred for catching this!

Last year about this time, I wrote a piece called “I don’t carry a gun…” and it goes like this:

I don’t carry a gun…

November 13th, 2007 by Syd

… to kill people. I carry a gun to keep from being killed.

I don’t carry a gun to scare people. I carry a gun because sometimes this world can be a scary place.

I don’t carry a gun because I’m paranoid. I carry a gun because there are real threats in the world.

I don’t carry a gun because I’m evil. I carry a gun because I have lived long enough to see the evil in the world.

I don’t carry a gun because I hate the government. I carry a gun because I understand the limitations of government.

I don’t carry a gun because I’m angry. I carry a gun so that I don’t have to spend the rest of my life hating myself for failing to be prepared.

I don’t carry a gun because my sex organs are too small. I carry a gun because I want to continue to use those sex organs for the purpose for which they were intended for a good long time to come.

I don’t carry a gun because I want to shoot someone. I carry a gun because I want to die at a ripe old age in my bed, and not on a sidewalk somewhere tomorrow afternoon.

I don’t carry a gun because I’m a cowboy. I carry a gun because, when I die and go to heaven, I want to be a cowboy.

I don’t carry a gun to make me feel like a man. I carry a gun because men know how to take care of themselves and the ones they love.

I don’t carry a gun because I feel inadequate. I carry a gun because unarmed and facing three armed thugs, I am inadequate.

I don’t carry a gun because I love it. I carry a gun because I love life and the people who make it meaningful to me.

The piece struck a nerve with a lot of people and it proved to be very popular. It was copied to blogs, websites and forums hundreds of times and it remains the most linked to and copied piece of writing on the blog. The reception of this piece has been deeply gratifying. I never objected to any copying or re-posting of the piece anywhere. I was glad to make the contribution to the cause.

Recently, people have begun to do something with it that is driving me nuts: they are changing a couple of words and presenting it without attribution, as if it were their own work. Believe it or not, I have actually received three different versions of it in e-mail this week, each one slightly modified but carrying the core of the original piece. I should be flattered, I guess, but I’m not.

What’s the problem with this? First of all, it is copyrighted material that I own. I could sue over this if I were the litigious kind. More importantly, this is a signature piece of creative work that I did, and it’s not right for people to change a few words and present it as their own or as an anonymous internet piece. It would be like taking Edgar Allen Poe’s “The Raven,” changing the name to “The Big Black Bird,” and circulating it as your own. Put yourself in the author’s place and I think you will see the problem.

These things take on a life of their own, and I know that there is no real way to put a stop to it. In many ways I am delighted that I created a “viral” idea. I would ask from those of you who are readers and friends of mine that when you receive one of these or see one posted on a forum, that you refer the sender back to this page so that they can see the way the piece was originally written, who wrote it, and how it should rightfully remain.

Thanks.

Apply for a position with Obama

November 14, 2008

“Have you ever had any association with any person, group or business venture that could be used — even unfairly — to impugn or attack your character and qualifications for government service?” –page 7, question 61 of the questionnaire required of prospective Obama administration cabinet members

One among 63 intrusive questions that will serve only to drive qualified people away, this question stood out for two reasons: Obama himself has many troubling associations (though that didn’t seem to matter to 66 million voters), and prospective cabinet members would have to answer, “Yes, I’m associated with Barack Obama.”

Political analyst Rich Galen also observed, “If this were an incoming Republican Administration, I guarantee you the name ‘McCarthy’ would be on every front page in the nation in describing [this questionnaire].”

And speaking of guns, question 59 reads, “Do you or any members of your immediate family own a gun? If so, provide complete ownership and registration information. Has the registration ever lapsed? Please also describe how and by whom it is used and whether it has been the cause of any personal injuries or property damage.”

Memo to Obama: Other than in the twisted world of Washington, DC, guns are not registered, nor should they be.

The last job that I would want at this time

November 5, 2008

The last job that I would want at this time is that of being in the Secret Service on the Presidential Protection detail. Think about it… Barack Obama is going to be a major target for every disgruntled person, or group that is out there.

I myself foresee a whole lot of disgruntled people. His plans for this country, if carried out, will be what brings that about.

Hence;

Income distribution will throttle what is left of the economy. Don’t worry one iota about recession. Think depression, on a global scale that has never been witnessed before.

His gun control schemes will not result in passive resistance like similar laws did in our neighbors land to the north. Resulting in a quiet retraction of the law.The coming depression will have people much more aware of providing for their own safety.

The Second Amendment isn’t about hunting ducks. It was written for the express purpose of resisting oppressive governments. That includes local authorities that commit outright acts of treason. For some reason, I think that the American people will not listen to any sort of Nuremberg excuses from them. Such as “I’m just doing my job.” Treason is treason.

I fully expect an expansion of misandry from this Congress as well as from this new President. Don’t forget the revenge factor because even more ex post facto law is headed down the pipe. The Bill of Rights went the way of the Dodo bird when that arch enemy of liberty Patricia Schroeder used public sympathy to pass her hate legislation. Later Bob Barr worked to have that same sort of oppression passed at the federal level. Barack Obama is, and has been a lackey for any and everything that will help to destroy America. Expect more of the same.

The Democrat / Progressive elite will see to it that they are ensconced in everlasting power. The international felon, George Soros will have his way with our nation. After all, he bought and paid for it. The only question is whether Barack Obama will lease the Lincoln bedroom to him, or give it to him as a gift for all the support that he has sent to the new President by whatever means.
Barack Obama will open the flood gates of illegal immigration from Mexico, but not from places like Ireland. They don’t, after all, have any sort of mafia that can pay off leftists.

No, I wouldn’t want to be in the Secret Service right now. After all, the Mayan calender calls for the end of the world as we know it in February, 2012

‘ACORN USES PUBLIC FUNDS TO STEAL ELECTIONS, KNOW YOUR GUN RIGHTS,’ SAYS SAF

October 28, 2008

BELLEVUE, WA – ACORN, the publicly-funded national organization linked to voter fraud in several states is now actively interfering with the exercise of firearm civil rights in New Jersey, and the Second Amendment Foundation is calling for an immediate federal investigation.

“ACORN has, since 1998, received an estimated $31 million in government funding,” said SAF founder Alan Gottlieb. “Now they have intervened in a New Jersey gun rights case in defense of an illegal Jersey City one-gun-a-month ordinance that violates the state preemption statute.

“For the past few election cycles,” Gottlieb noted, “ACORN has clearly grown more partisan toward the political Left. ACORN’S PAC has endorsed Sen. Barack Obama for president. That’s hardly surprising since he used to serve as their legal counsel and he taught the group about community organizing. ACORN and Obama are lockstep in seeking to destroy our Second Amendment rights.

“The organization is currently under FBI investigation over allegations of voter fraud in several states,” he added. “Bad enough that ACORN is implicated in fraudulent activities in several states, but now an ACORN chapter in the Garden State is working against the ability of New Jersey gun owners to exercise a constitutionally-protected individual civil right to own a handgun.

“It is an outrage that this group has intervened to defend an anti-gun ordinance that has already been declared illegal by the court,” he observed. “So long as ACORN accepts one penny of public funding, the organization should remain absolutely neutral on social issues, political campaigns and especially legal actions defending the right to keep and bear arms.

“We call upon the FBI to expand the scope of its ACORN investigation and focus on the group’s involvement in the Jersey City case,” Gottlieb stated. “We support Ohio Congressman John Boehner’s request that the White House immediately block all federal funding of ACORN activities until this group’s questionable activities are fully investigated. We want to know how they are paying for attorneys, and why Seton Hall’s Center for Social Justice and the Public Interest Law Center are providing legal assistance to ACORN for this effort.

“This is still the United States, not a socialist gulag” Gottlieb concluded. “Public money should not be given to private organizations which then turn around and utilize that funding to usurp the electoral process and erode constitutionally-guaranteed civil rights.”

Gun sales thriving in uncertain times

October 27, 2008

Well you knew it had to happen sooner or later. Someone in the mainstream media actually hit the “X” with a story about the American people, the economy, the election, and gun rights. This story is not from the NRA, the GOA, or anyone even remotely connected with them.

Americans have cut back on buying cars, furniture and clothes in a tough economy, but there’s one consumer item that’s still enjoying healthy sales: guns. Purchases of firearms and ammunition have risen 8 to 10 percent this year, according to state and federal data.

No kidding? I wonder why?

Several variables drive sales, but many dealers, buyers and experts attribute the increase in part to concerns about the economy and fears that if Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois wins the presidency, he will join with fellow Democrats in Congress to enact new gun controls. Obama has said that he believes in an individual right to bear arms but that he also supports “common-sense safety measures.”

Have they recently cleaned off those rose tinted spectacles and really taken a look at who is running for President perhaps?

Industry experts and law enforcement officials point to several examples over the years. In 1994, there was a rush to buy guns when President Bill Clinton pushed for a ban on military-style semiautomatic rifles. Handgun sales jumped last year after the massacre at Virginia Tech as some worried about personal protection and others feared sweeping restrictions on handguns, pushing applications for concealed gun permits in Virginia alone up 60 percent. People also rushed to buy guns after the 1992 riots in Los Angeles and the breakdown of order in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.

This must be a misprint! he called them what they are!

Bob Leyshion, who visited a gun shop in Manassas recently, said the economic crisis and Obama’s lead in the polls were on his mind.

“People are preparing for catastrophe right now,” said Leyshion, 55, of Nokesville. “It’s insurance. With the stock market crash and people out of work, and the illegal aliens in this area, the probability of civil disorder is very high.”

This guy needs to listen, Palin might be alright, but her being selected as the V.P. candidate in no way cleans the slate with gun owners for McCain…

“The industry and sportsmen have not been in love with McCain, but the selection of Palin wiped that all away,” said Anthony Aeschliman, a spokesman for the National Shooting Sports Foundation.

Pandering is much to light a statement!

Brad, 42, and Margaret Marcus, 47, who were at a Fairfax County shooting range recently with their two children for weekly target practice, said they sped up the purchase of two semiautomatic rifles that had been banned during the Clinton administration because they feared they could become illegal again if Obama wins. The couple, who run an online retailing business from their Ashburn home, said they viewed Obama’s remarks about protecting the Second Amendment as campaign trail “pandering.”

I must admit that this writer had to show some serious chutzpa too actually say in a published story what the people in America really are thinking. Him, as well as his Editor and the Publisher might want to be sure that their last Will and Testament are up to date though.

This lady needed friends…

October 24, 2008

Two friends in fact, and the names are Smith & Wesson. That, friends would be a sure cure for the thuggery of the Obama supporters.

Story here.

I’m not sure of the status of concealed carry in the local where this happened. But I am sure of one thing. “It’s better to be judged by twelve, than carried by six.” I don’t know who first said that but it was as true then as it is now.
