The most exclusive club in the world

December 24, 2008

This years Democrat avalanche in the election comes with a few loose strings. This is unfortunate because what is at stake is no less than the American way of life. I may be no big fan of team Obama, not in the least, yet I hold that there are things that are more important than what might be termed micro-politics.

Those things that go beyond all the petty differences are the very things that set the United States apart from the rest of the world. We live in America by rule of law. Not by personality, or the will of the mob. We are a Constitutional Republic, not a democracy. We have a Bill of Rights that protects individuals from the whims of government as well as from the mob.

Now, what is all that leading too? In a single word, it is that our system, is based upon integrity. Without that single attribute all the good intentions in the world will not make for good government. The lack of integrity in elected, and appointed people causes fundamental problems that the rest of society has to live, or die, with. There are plenty of examples where the lack of integrity has caused problems. From judicial activism to corruption in elected and appointed officials the lack of personal and professional integrity has caused little but problems.

Now that the smoke has settled there remain two seats in the worlds most exclusive club that have a cloud hanging over them. Which way will the wind blow? Will it blow toward the Constitution and Bill of Rights? Or will it blow in the direction of personality worship?

The disputed U.S. Senate race in Minnesota and the politically toxic appointment of a replacement to the Illinois seat being vacated by President-elect Barack Obama have left open the possibility that the legislative body could reject two would-be lawmakers.

While the scenario seems far-fetched, Article I, Section 5 of Constitution holds that “Each House shall be the Judge of the Elections, Returns and Qualifications of its own Members.”

In other words, if Minnesota certifies either Norm Coleman or Al Franken the winner, a bloc of senators could object on the Senate floor to seating him. The same could happen if embattled Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich appoints a “tainted” successor to Obama.

The new Congress starts Jan. 6, and the potential for havoc is immense.

Either scenario could prompt special investigative committees or even floor votes on whether to seat a candidate if their election certification remain.

Yet another Kennedy in government?

December 6, 2008

There has been talk of Caroline of the Kennedy clan becoming the Senator for New York once Hillary Clinton assumes her coronation as Secretary of State.

Personally, I think that it is high time that we Americans do away with the political dynasty’s that we have collard ourselves with. The Clinton’s, Daley’s , Bush’s, and the Kennedy’s all come to mind.

I find it difficult to see any people as being truly free when they basically enthrone families in positions of power seemingly forever. No, I don’t have anything against the woman. I’m just getting pretty tired of seeing the same families controlling this nations destiny.

Gun owners won an important vote in the U.S. Senate this week, when more
than three dozen senators stood with Republican Sen. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma
in his battle against Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada.

Reid fell eight votes short on Monday of stopping Coburn, who has been using
parliamentary maneuvers to keep anti-gun legislation (and pork) from coming
to the Senate floor for votes.

Sen. Coburn has placed a "hold" on more than 80 bills since
January of last
year -- including the bill which recently extended the National Parks gun
ban to the Washington-Rochambeau trail.

Under the rules, one senator may block the progress of an objectionable bill
by issuing a "hold" -- a maneuver which prevents a bill from
speedily moving
through the legislative process.

The frustrated dictator of the Senate (a.k.a. Reid) combined 36 of the bills
which have come under Coburn's ire into a big omnibus bill and added all
kinds of pork to entice senators into supporting the measure. Nevertheless,
Reid still fell eight votes short of what was needed to defeat Coburn's
holds.

GOA wants to thank all of you who took the time during the last week to urge
your senators to stand with Coburn!

VETERANS DISARMAMENT UPDATE

In other Senate news, Richard Burr's bill to repeal large parts of the
Veterans Disarmament Act is gaining steam. The Republican senator from
North Carolina introduced the Veterans Protection Act (S. 3167) after
President Bush signed a gun ban into law this year -- a law which, among
other things, disarms military veterans who have been diagnosed with PTSD.
The Burr bill, which now has 18 cosponsors, would protect the rights of
military veterans and make it more difficult for the Veterans Affairs to
deny them their Second Amendment rights.

----- Pre-written letter -----

Dear Senator:

I was very happy to hear that the Senate stood with Tom Coburn and refused
to vote for Harry Reid's pork-laden omnibus bill on Monday, July 28.

I applaud Senator Coburn's efforts to return our government to a
constitutional basis, and I hope that the Senate will act on his bill to
repeal the National Park Service gun ban (S. 2807).

Please stand with Sen. Coburn against the strong-arm tactics of Sen. Reid
and support the repeal of the NPS gun ban.

Sincerely,

Lieberman-Warner Emission bill, cripple America 101

June 3, 2008

The Liberman-Warner Emission bill, ( S2191) is a bill that has had no real thought put behind it. It is clearly a kow tow to Al Gore, and the global climate change extremist’s that has no rational science behind it. This example of religion masquerading as science will however accomplish a few things.

It will, in fact, harm the environment in the United States. It will also play havoc with the American economy. It will also line the pockets of people like Al Gore through the merchandising of so-called “green house gas credits.”

I say tar and feather both Lieberman, and Warner. Do it publicly, and broadcast it on the mainstream media.

This is bad legislation that will harm America, and the world for years too come.
