Smarter than the average bear!

October 31, 2009

No this is not about recent culinary habits of bears in Colorado. as much as I wanted to post about all the antics that have gotten bears into the press of late the inherent tragedy of such would be served best the next time some nitwit posts about how kind and cuddly the creatures are. The Patriot Post brings us yet another example of economic suicide… Read on.

Regulatory Commissars: Oil Off Limits for Thriving Bears

Believing themselves to be smarter than the average bear, bureaucrats in the Obama administration continue their quest to create a, well, bear market — at least for oil. The White House decided to designate more than 200,000 square miles of Alaskan land and coastline as “critical habitat” for polar bears — the same bear population that has reached greater numbers than previously recorded in history. In fact, despite what Al Gore and his fellow global warmists would have us believe, the population has actually risen by 40 percent since 1974.

This new non-endangered species habitat is enormous enough to qualify as the third largest state in the union, placing it between Texas and California in terms of square miles. Former UnitedHealth general counsel and now Assistant Interior Secretary Tom Strickland claimed at a news conference that the greatest threat to the bear is Arctic ice melt and that “we will continue to work to protect the polar bear and its fragile environment.”

However, the new designation as a critical habitat is the first step in requiring even more government consideration of the supposed negative effect on the escalating polar bear numbers before allowing oil and gas development. The state of Alaska responded by filing a complaint in an effort to stop the listing under the Endangered Species Act.

In the meantime, some 30 percent of the world’s gas supplies and 4 percent of the estimated global oil supply will be placed off limits because of this deceitful claim that the polar bear population is endangered. Next up, the loggerhead turtle, which, if listed as endangered, would bring regulations on everything along the eastern seaboard, including what lights you can put on the ocean-facing side of your house.

Disinformation: Stupid is as stupid does redux

April 15, 2009

Ah, the better than thou crowd. At least they are consistent; Stupid is as stupid does on steroids, or crack, or maybe both? Such is the logic!

This week’s “Leftmedia Buster” Award: “David Shuster, filling in for MSNBC loose-cannon Keith Olbermann on his April 13 broadcast, and his writers probably thought they were pretty clever when they pieced an item denigrating the tax protests by using the [dirty] term ‘teabagging.'” –Jeff Poor of NewsBusters (to read the text of Shuster’s puerile dirty jokes if you dare, click here — Warning: Graphic puns.)

Doesn’t get it: “Republicans have become embarrassing to watch. And it doesn’t feel right to make fun of crazy people.” –New York Times columnist Paul Krugman on the tea parties taking place across the country today

Poor (but accurate) choice of words: [I]t’s fair to give the new kids on the block a chance to get their learner’s permits first.” –CBS’s Katie Couric on the Obama administration

Capitalism? Oh my!: “I’m worried if you think if [Goldman-Sachs paying back its federal loan early is] a good thing. Are they doing this because of financial stability or might they be talking about that, simply to get out from under the thumb of the federal government and be allowed to go back to running the business the way they want to run it as opposed to the way the government wants them to run it?” –NBC’s Matt Lauer to Christina Romer on Obama’s Council of Economic Advisers

Twisted blame: “That weekend tragedy [of the murder of three Pittsburgh police officers] involves a man who allegedly shot and killed three police officers in cold blood. Why? Because he was convinced, after no doubt watching Fox News and listening to right-wing radio, that quote, ‘Our rights were being infringed upon.'” –CNN’s Rick Sanchez

Oddly enough!: “If anything, the recent shootings have inspired more Americans to buy guns, recession or no recession. In fact, all over the country they are stocking up on as many pistols, rifles, and shotguns as possible before the Obama Administration bans or taxes them. … Interestingly, however, violent crime rates have at the same time been falling in Los Angeles, New York and other big American cities. The experts are at loss as to explain why this should be happening.” –London Times Los Angeles correspondent Chris Ayres

HSUS Tries To Slip One Past Country Fans

March 22, 2009

This is great! It has been really way too long since I have been able to tag something as stupid is as stupid does! 😀

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the most radical animal “rights” and anti-hunting organization in the country, has been quietly trying to get Carrie Underwood voted Entertainer of the Year via the Academy of Country Music. The problem is, a large percentage of country music fans are also gun owners and hunters who do not like Carrie Underwood’s active support for HSUS. And HSUS knows it.

Underwood and American Idol have already listed HSUS as a beneficiary of the proceeds of one of her songs and now HSUS is enlisting their radical animal rights supporters to vote for her in the Entertainer of the Year contest. But they are trying to keep it quiet. In an e-mail sent out to supporters by Kathy Bauch, the HSUS Senior Director for Corporate Relations & Promotions, she asked people to vote for Underwood, but added, “Feel free to distribute this to friends and family, but please don’t post to lists, twitter, etc.–anything that would identify that HSUS is urging people to vote for her, or it could just breathe life into the opposition.”

Oops, too late!

Perhaps someone should tell the folks at HSUS that e-mails are not exactly the most secure way of communicating their “secret” agendas.

Country music fans who do not appreciate Underwood’s support for HSUS should go to http://www.cbs.com/specials/acma/vote/ and vote for an entertainer who shares their values and supports America’s hunting heritage

Mission Accomplished? « Thoughts Quotes and Internet Fun

This is just one of the really good things about WordPress, you can expose idiots via the “Press This” feature. They moderate all comments, so as not to have to deal with such esoteric things as logic, reason, or actual knowledge. I am no  “Bush Bot,” as anyone that reads this blog, or numerous forums over the years well know. But, sometimes things just go beyond the pale. Like this particular statement being taken out of any sort of meaningful context to the point that it is a dead horse. Figure it out dingbat. That Aircraft Carrier, and those aboard Her, did in fact, accomplish their assigned mission.

Bush, as much as I despise his politics, never, to the best of my knowledge, has declared “victory.” Go crawl into a hole, and light a candle, open a book, and learn. Then, perhaps you can write a new version of “The Allegory of the Cave.”
