Bloomberg And Lautenberg : What a pair of losers

December 5, 2009

The treasonous master minions of the fight against liberty and freedom are back at it.

Two Against Two: Bloomberg And Lautenberg
Pair Up To Violate The Second And Fourteenth Amendments
Friday, December 04, 2009
Is your name the same as, or similar to, that of someone on the FBI’s “terrorist watchlist?”  Or, have you been erroneously placed on the watchlist?  You can’t find out because the FBI won’t say exactly why people get watchlisted, won’t say who has been watchlisted, and therefore doesn’t offer watchlisted people the chance to clear their names immediately.  In fact, small children, federal air marshals, military personnel who have fought terrorists overseas, the late Sen. Edward Kennedy, members of Congress, and many other good Americans have even been stopped from boarding commercial aircraft for this reason.  The government has reported that there were 700,000 names in the watchlist as of April 2007, and the ACLU estimates that the number has since risen to 1.3 million.

Obviously, these people are not all terrorists.  However, politicians who hate the Second Amendment know that some of the good Americans who are erroneously on the list, or who get incorrectly flagged by the list, are gun owners.  And, because the FBI won’t reveal its watchlisting criteria, those politicians think that more gun owners can be placed on the list over time, by like-minded bureaucrats making arbitrary determinations about who ought to have guns.

One such politician is Michael Bloomberg, whose hobbies include being mayor of New York City and raising intellectually deficient complaints about gun laws.  Never one to concern himself with the facts when there is a chance to get his name in the paper, Bloomberg recently claimed that the recent murders on Ft. Hood would have been prevented if the FBI hadn’t been required to erase NICS-approved gun purchase records after 24 hours.

Mischaracterizing events related to the Ft. Hood murders for political reasons shows disrespect to the lives that were lost there and is crass to the extreme.  That said, the reason that the FBI didn’t know about the Ft. Hood suspect’s gun purchase is not that his NICS record was erased after 24 hours.  Rather, it’s that he wasn’t on the watchlist in the first place, as NICS checks the list and alerts the FBI if a listed person tries to buy a gun.

Another such politician is Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.), author of legislation Bloomberg supports (S. 1317, H.R. 2159 in the House), which would allow the Attorney General to stop watchlisted people from buying guns through NICS.  It would also prevent those people from contesting their rejections in a full and open hearing in court. Obviously, that scheme would violate not only the Second Amendment, but also the Fourteenth Amendment’s protection against deprivation of liberty without due process of law.

This week Lautenberg introduced a separate bill (S. 2820), calling for NICS firearm transaction records to be retained for 10 years on a person suspected of being a member of a terrorist organization. That, however, is a smokescreen for another provision in the same bill, to retain NICS records of approved firearm transfers for 180 days for other gun buyers.

While Lautenberg introduced S. 2820 in the wake of Ft. Hood (with terrorism fresh on Americans’ minds), gun control supporters have wanted NICS records retained for longer than 24 hours since NICS’ inception.  Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), a co-sponsor of the Lautenberg bill, argued in favor of a 180-day retention back in 2001.  After all, the Brady Act, as passed by Congress, required that NICS “destroy” the records of approved firearm purchases.

Along with the Lautenberg bills described above, gun control supporters are concurrently campaigning for a law to force all private gun sales to be run through NICS.  Connecting the dots is a simple task. The goal shared by gun control supporters and by government entities for whom no amount of knowledge about American citizens is too much, is to incrementally increase the amount of information the government possesses on gun owners who, through no fault of their own, end up on a secret government list.

Please call your U.S. Senators and urge them to oppose S. 1317 and S. 2820.  You can call your U.S. Senators at (202) 224-3121.

ACTION: As the Senate begins debate on socialized health care this week, the White House is pulling out all the stops to get it passed, including an attack on Gun Owners of America and the Second Amendment.

Please contact your Senators and warn them that a vote in favor of socialized health care will be considered a vote against the Second Amendment.  [A pre-written letter is provided below.]

Why don’t they read the bills?

Last week, as Americans were getting ready to celebrate Thanksgiving, Obama’s spin doctors were still in full combat mode, taking shots at Gun Owners of America.

On the official White House blog, deputy communications director Dan Pfeiffer denied that the health care bill would affect gun owners. After all, he writes, “there is no mention [of] ‘gun-related health data’ or anything like it anywhere in either the Senate or the House bills.”

Well, unlike so many in Congress, GOA attorneys have actually read the bills, something they have been doing since before Mr. Pfeiffer was born.

So, how would ObamaCare attack gun rights?

First of all, the fact that the bills do not mention the words “gun related health data” is meaningless.  Those who know even a little bit about gun law understand the increasing use of statutes which do not mention guns — in order to regulate them nonetheless.

Gun banners love to interpret laws in the most expansive ways

Within the past year, the federal district court for the District of Columbia used the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) to overturn Bush regulations involving guns in parks. NEPA did not purport to apply to guns.

Increasingly, zoning ordinances are being used to put gun ranges and gun dealers out of business. These ordinances do not mention guns.

Thirty-five jurisdictions have brought lawsuits to try to put gun manufacturers out of business, arguing negligence, product defect, and nuisance law which were not previously thought to apply to guns.

And, over the last decade, veterans suffering from PTSD have been denied the right to purchase a gun.  This was not supposed to happen when the Brady Law was enacted in 1994, but that did not keep Clinton’s Department of Veterans Affairs from using the law to disarm thousands upon thousands of veterans, without any due process.

ObamaCare gives tremendous authority to anti-gun bureaucrats

Turning to what is written in the health care bill, section 1104 would give the Secretary of Health and Human Services (currently anti-gunner Kathleen Sebelius) broad authority to promulgate rules once ObamaCare becomes law.

For example, the bill requires health plans to certify, in writing, “that the data and information systems [demonstrate] to the Secretary that the plan conducts the electronic transactions … in a manner that fully complies with the regulations of the Secretary.” [Section 1104(b)(2).]

What health-related “gun” data do we fear would be required to be submitted under these rules?  Increasingly, protocols are requiring that kids (and adults) be asked by physicians about loaded firearms in the household. A keyword search by BATFE of a federal database created by section 13001 of the stimulus bill — but enforced by the Senate version of ObamaCare — could produce something pretty close to a national gun registry.

Veterans have already been disarmed without due process

In addition, between 115,000 and 150,000 veterans have had their gun rights permanently taken away from them because the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has appointed a financial guardian for them when they received counseling for common illnesses such as post-traumatic stress disorder — and all of this with no due process nor trial in a court of law. Under BATFE regulations issued during the Clinton administration, a diagnosis by a psychiatrist in connection with a government program (such as the Education of All Handicapped Children Act, Medicare, etc.) is sufficient to declare the person a “prohibited person” under 18 U.S.C. 922(g)(4).

Hence, BATFE could similarly take the position that a finding of Alzheimer’s, PTSD, or ADHD should result in the loss of gun rights. And, under the Senate ObamaCare bill, this information could be obtained by BATFE with nothing more than a keyword search of the newly created database.

Incidentally, federal privacy protections do not apply to law enforcement agencies like BATFE.

Higher insurance premiums for gun owners

White House spokesman Dan Pfeiffer also writes: “Nothing in the Senate health reform bill would lead to higher premiums for gun owners …. Section 2717 [specifically] lists what types of programs would be involved — such as smoking cessation, physical fitness, nutrition, heart disease prevention ….”

Well, as any lawyer would know, that list in section 2717 is “inclusive,” but is not “exclusive.”

Section 1201 of the bill creates “wellness” programs which allow consideration of behavioral issues in setting premiums and, presumably, determining activities which are so dangerous that coverage might be suspended.  The definition of “wellness” includes some very broad issues, including obesity and “lifestyle.” But even these broad categories are not exclusive and do not prevent, for example, the consideration of firearms ownership — as State Farm and Prudential have already done on some occasions.

You can use the Gun Owners Legislative Action Center at http://www.gunowners.org/activism.htm to send your Senators the pre-written e-mail message below.

—– Pre-written letter —–

Dear Senator:

The White House is refusing to admit the obvious.  The Congressional Budget Office has exposed the fact that the emperor has no clothes, documenting that health insurance premiums will significantly rise if ObamaCare passes.

Similarly, the White House is refusing to admit that its prized piece of legislation could affect gun owners.  The White House is plain wrong.

Please go to http://gunowners.org/ch11252009.htm to see Gun Owners of America’s response to the White House, showing the threat ObamaCare poses to gun rights.

Sincerely,

Lies, and more lies…

November 20, 2009

So many things are going on at once that I think it’s a strategy of the left. Distract, and then slip things through that otherwise would not pass muster. Once again, The Patriot Post provides meaningful analysis.

The BIGGEST LIE Yet

“It is natural to man to indulge in the illusions of hope. We are apt to shut our eyes against a painful truth — and listen to the song of that siren, till she transforms us into beasts. … For my part, whatever anguish of spirit it might cost, I am willing to know the whole truth; to know the worst, and to provide for it.” –Patrick Henry

Sometimes the biggest lies come under cover of a truth.

Such was the case this week, when Barack Hussein Obama proffered this observation about deficits: “I think it is important, though, to recognize if we keep on adding to the debt, even in the midst of this recovery, that at some point, people could lose confidence in the U.S. economy in a way that could actually lead to a double-dip recession.”

“Keep on adding to the debt”? From this, one might conclude that Obama has never suggested such a thing, and is truly concerned about deficits.

His revelation came amid discussion of tax reductions engineered to increase employment, as if our Constitution has a provision for that, anymore than for Obama’s other proposals.

Obama is feigning concern about deficits now that there is discussion of tax cuts, which he concludes would increase deficits.

“At some point, people could lose confidence in the U.S. economy”? Like the Red Chinese, who hold more U.S. government debt than any other nation ($800 billion), and upon whom we are depending to fund more of our debt. No coincidence that Obama’s remarks were made while on his most recent appeasement tour in Beijing.

“Even in the midst of this recovery”? What recovery?

Oh, the one that his $787 billion “hope-n-change” big-government payout package was supposed to ensure?

At the time of that proposal, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office offered this summary: “In the longer run, the [Obama] legislation would result in a slight decrease in gross domestic product compared with CBO’s baseline economic forecast.” Put another way, the CBO static scoring projected that Obama’s big government pork giveaway would hinder economic recovery. Dynamic scoring by economists shows a much worse destiny.

But Obama warned, “If nothing is done, this recession might linger for years. Unemployment will approach double digits. Our nation will sink deeper into a crisis that, at some point, we may not be able to reverse.”

Now, after a quick assessment of the Obama Recovery through October, one is stuck with the conclusion that his spending spree has resulted in 10.2 percent unemployment — except, of course, in such places as Washington, DC, where government jobs are immune to recession.

That would be double-digit unemployment — so now you know why Obama cleverly framed his recovery program in terms of jobs “created or saved.” His administration announced that through October, the American Recovery Act had “created” or “saved” 640,329 jobs. However, a growing number of skeptics, even among his once-adoring media, found some very questionable accounting methods used to come up with that figure.

Asked about some of the discrepancies, Obama’s Recovery Czar, Ed Pound, responded, “Who knows, man, who really knows?”

Recovery reality check: Remember when Obama claimed, “This is our moment, this is our time to turn the page on the policies of the past, to offer a new direction”?

That is a reference to Obama’s v Reagan’s policies, big government solutions v. free enterprise solutions.

Ronald Reagan’s economic policies unleashed an unprecedented period of growth, which continued right up until the financial sector collapse in ’08, a calamity resulting from policies implemented during the Clinton years, which undermined the values of derivatives used as collateral due. Those policies, as we now know, gave license for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to back high-risk loans to unqualified buyers, thereby setting the stage for the subprime mortgage meltdown and the crash of 2008.

Recall that in 2005, Sen. John McCain sponsored the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act, saying, “For years I have been concerned about the regulatory structure that governs Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac … and the sheer magnitude of these companies and the role they play in the housing market. … If Congress does not act, American taxpayers will continue to be exposed to the enormous risk that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pose to the housing market, the overall financial system, and the economy as a whole.”

McCain noted that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac regulators concluded that profits were “illusions deliberately and systematically created by the company’s senior management.”

McCain was right, but Democrats, including Barney Frank, chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, ensured that nothing would be done to alter current practices at Fannie and Freddie. “These two entities … are not facing any kind of financial crisis,” Frank said at the time.

The net result of the derivative dilution was a crisis of confidence in the U.S. economy, second only to that which led to the Great Depression.

Remember when Obama claimed, “We are fundamentally transforming the United States of America”? Well, we’re in mid-transformation, and how are things looking now?

Obama also said, “Generations from now, we will be able to look back and tell our children that this was our time.”

Indeed, his time to saddle them and their children with unprecedented debt, not only from his “stimulus” folly, but next up, ObamaCare, and then his job-killing cap-and-tax scheme.

If you think you can count on the administration’s estimates of the true cost of ObamaCare, think again. The Washington Times recently reminded us of the estimated cost of Medicare shortly after Democrats implemented it in 1965. Then, it was predicted to cost $12 billion by 1990. In actuality, it cost $98 billion, which is to say the original estimate was short by more than a factor of seven.

In my home state of Tennessee, we’ve already been there and done that. Our state’s version of ObamaCare, known as TennCare, implemented by Democrats in 1994 ostensibly to contain healthcare expenses, has quickly grown to consume more than a third of state revenues.

The CBO now says that the $1 trillion estimated cost of ObamaCare is “subject to substantial uncertainty.” How’s that for qualifying understatement?

As for the big picture, U.S. National Debt topped the $12 trillion mark this week, or approximately $39,000 for every man, woman and child in America, and the federal deficit that Obama now pretends to be concerned about hit a record high $1.42 trillion for fiscal year 2009.

Obama’s administration projects that the national debt will top $14 trillion by this time next year, and my sense is that they’re being modest. At the current pace, within 10 years our national debt will exceed our Gross Domestic Product.

Of these staggering debt figures, Obama now claims, “I intend to take serious steps to reduce America’s long-term deficit because debt-driven growth cannot fuel America’s long-term prosperity.”

But, what’s his real endgame?

We can be certain that Obama’s solution to deficits will not be less government. Instead, it will be unprecedented tax increases, a.k.a., socialist redistribution of wealth, a.k.a., “the fundamental transformation of America.”

The Tax Foundation now estimates that to offset deficits, “Federal income tax rates would have to be nearly tripled across the income spectrum,” with the lowest bracket at 27 percent and the highest at 95. Even the CBO estimates that rates would have to exceed 80 percent, and that’s before state and local taxes.

Do you get the picture, folks?

Obama will succeed in his effort to socialize the U.S. economy, using the tax code as his hammer and sickle, unless growing ranks of Americans object to the fact that he has no constitutional authority to do so.

In the meantime, Patriots, keep your powder dry.

Mob Rule: Democracy in action

November 8, 2009

A few hours ago Congress demonstrated the fallacy of democracy, mob rule. But what were we to expect other than sodomy from Democrats, and a RINO?

That’s right. I consider this to be as much a rape of the American people by Congress as any rape in any county jail or prison by the stronger inmate.

Note also that those committing the rape will not participate in the same swallowing or forced entry into their lives. Nope, they are, after all, better than thou.

Not to mention, that while this Tijuana donkey show was being presented all sorts of other nefarious things were being played out elsewhere while you were being distracted.

The economy is still in a shambles. For every stupid Biden pronouncement there are are those stubborn facts that get in the way. Unemployment is still way up there, and that is even with the artificial deflated numbers being reported. Figure it out; the statistics only show people that are collecting UIB. A lot of people have dried up any benefits, and don’t get counted.

The stock market is a joke. Sure, a few are up, barely. Those that are seem to have one striking similarity. They are companies that are owned and operated by Obama cronies. Do the names Warren Buffett and George Soros ring a bell? Can you say “Salesman?” The people that are telling us that the economy is better are nothing more than pitchmen whose livelihood depends on you believing that they do indeed have the latest and the greatest.

Sounds a lot like Chicago and New Orleans politics to me. Sounds about like obama respecting dead Americans

We may not be able to wait until “Judgment Day” 2010.

And people actually wonder why the Militia Movement is growing by leaps and bounds?

OSHA CZAR: Yet another liberty hater

November 1, 2009

OSHA Czar David Michaels rabid anti liberty ideology makes him yet another perfect fit in the current administrations war on America. David Kopel explains just how dangerous this political animal is to your personal safety. Not to mention your liberty and freedom.

Read about that HERE.

What is it with team obama? Is there an end point to the collective hate that permeates this group? We are being assaulted from all sides. I guess that means that we can swing our swords in any direction because the enemy, is everywhere.

Smarter than the average bear!

October 31, 2009

No this is not about recent culinary habits of bears in Colorado. as much as I wanted to post about all the antics that have gotten bears into the press of late the inherent tragedy of such would be served best the next time some nitwit posts about how kind and cuddly the creatures are. The Patriot Post brings us yet another example of economic suicide… Read on.

Regulatory Commissars: Oil Off Limits for Thriving Bears

Believing themselves to be smarter than the average bear, bureaucrats in the Obama administration continue their quest to create a, well, bear market — at least for oil. The White House decided to designate more than 200,000 square miles of Alaskan land and coastline as “critical habitat” for polar bears — the same bear population that has reached greater numbers than previously recorded in history. In fact, despite what Al Gore and his fellow global warmists would have us believe, the population has actually risen by 40 percent since 1974.

This new non-endangered species habitat is enormous enough to qualify as the third largest state in the union, placing it between Texas and California in terms of square miles. Former UnitedHealth general counsel and now Assistant Interior Secretary Tom Strickland claimed at a news conference that the greatest threat to the bear is Arctic ice melt and that “we will continue to work to protect the polar bear and its fragile environment.”

However, the new designation as a critical habitat is the first step in requiring even more government consideration of the supposed negative effect on the escalating polar bear numbers before allowing oil and gas development. The state of Alaska responded by filing a complaint in an effort to stop the listing under the Endangered Species Act.

In the meantime, some 30 percent of the world’s gas supplies and 4 percent of the estimated global oil supply will be placed off limits because of this deceitful claim that the polar bear population is endangered. Next up, the loggerhead turtle, which, if listed as endangered, would bring regulations on everything along the eastern seaboard, including what lights you can put on the ocean-facing side of your house.

Shenanigans, and Obamacare…

October 1, 2009

The so-called health care debacle, I mean debate. Is flush with partisan politics that have little if anything at all to do with health. With a fresh infusion of Chicago style politics this is becoming one of the biggest, if not most widespread scandal that has been seen in American politics in years… So what if ACORN changed it’s name?

The words is out… the game is played… the man behind the curtain has been exposed… and it’s now as plain as the nose on your face.  Obama and the leftists in Congress don’t want you to know what’s in ObamaCare… they just made it clear that they just may try to hide all the sordid details from you.

But what’s even worse, Obama and the leftists in Congress may even be trying to muzzle, and intimidate, those who dare to speak out against ObamaCare.

It’s becoming more and more apparent that Obama and the leftists in Congress don’t want the American people to know… or read… or hear anything negative about ObamaCare… and that they may be willing to shut-down debate by any means necessary.

One thing is certain, Obama and the leftists in Congress are leaving the door wide open to enact ObamaCare in the dead of night… under the cover of darkness… shove it down our throats before any of us are any the wiser.

When Senator Jim Bunning offered an amendment that would have required that the language of the bill be made available to the American people 72 hours prior to a vote, Democrats on the Senate Finance Committee squashed it.

Michael Franc, writing for the Heritage Foundation’s blog, The Foundry gives us the sordid and sickening details:

During the Senate Finance Committee mark up of the Baucus health bill … Senator Bunning of Kentucky put forth an innovative amendment. This amendment stipulated that before voting on the measure in Committee, legislative language would have to be accessible to the public for 72 hours and that the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) would need to publish an official tally of how much this bill will cost the American people and what the real impact will be on health costs.”

Franc continued:

“The amendment failed 11-12 on nearly a party line vote. Senator Blanche Lincoln (AR) was the sole Democrat to support this attempt at transparency. The bottom line: when the committee completes its work on this re-make of one-sixth of our economy, Senators will have voted on a phantom – a bill that does not exist with costs that are unknowable until, that is, the unelected legislative draftsmen write the real bill in some back room on Capitol Hill.”

If nothing else that has transpired up to this point has convinced you that ObamaCare must be rejected… thrown aside… taken off the table… these shenanigans should.

It’s time to tell our elected officials that no good can come from ObamaCare… that’s it’s rotten to the core… and that it must be scrapped.

We need every person in receipt of this urgent appeal to use the button below and barrage Barack Hussein Obama and each and every Republican Member of the United States Senate with your personalized faxes. Make no mistake, you’re not going to change America with a couple of faxes or letters or phone calls only directed at your two Senators.  Each of us needs to barrage each and every one of these Republican Senators with a mountain of faxes.  They all need to see that the American people are united. Only then will they wake up and smell the coffee.

Tell them that you believe that the only thing keeping ObamaCare alive is the willingness of some Republicans to negotiate and that ObamaCare would be defeated once and for all if they all stood firm in total opposition to ObamaCare. Tell them that no amount of so-called “compromise” will make government-run health care acceptable to the American people. Let them know that if they spent the same amount of energy to defeat ObamaCare as they are spending negotiating, the job would be done. Demand, once and for all, that they stop negotiating and win this fight against socialized health care for the American people.

Sit Down And Shut Up. ObamaCare Is None Of Your Business… When We Pass It, You Can Learn To Live With It.
It’s bad enough when our federal legislators vote on bills they have not even bothered to read….

But to actually start “negotiations” on 200 pages of notes and ideas… on a bill that has not even been written….

To squash an amendment that would require them to give you 72 hours to read what will likely be thousands of pages before they vote on it… what’s going on here?

It’s as if they’re saying, We Ain’t Gonna Read It And We Don’t Want You Reading It Either.

The American people are not children to be scolded or bullied.

This is the United States… not the old-Soviet Union.

And yet, ObamaCare may actually pass because the willingness of some Republican Senators to “negotiate” is keeping it on life support.

It’s possibly the only thing keeping it alive right now.  If Republican Senators simply walked away… if they left it alone… ObamaCare would likely just wither on the vine.

You can only scratch your head and ask why?

Why negotiate over something the American people have soundly rejected?

And furthermore, in consideration of the tactics being employed by the proponents of ObamaCare, why negotiate with a bully… even a 10 year-old knows better than to do that?

But you can do something other than just scratch your head.

You can send all of these Republican Senators a loud and clear message that it’s time to stop negotiations. It’s time to stand firm in opposition to ObamaCare and defeat ObamaCare once and for all.

Is Obama’s Department of Health And Human Services Stomping On The First Amendment… Threatening Those Who Oppose ObamaCare.
But Obama and the leftists in Congress are not simply trying to keep you in the dark when it comes to ObamaCare.

It’s worse… they’re actually trying to squash attempts by some who dare to tell the truth about ObamaCare.

Did you hear about what just happened to Humana?

Humana published a letter to its members warning them of potential drastic cuts to Medicare (specifically the Medicare Advantage program) under ObamaCare and urged its members to contact Congress.

Specifically, Humana said; “if the proposed funding cut levels [in the current health care legislation] become law, millions of seniors and disabled individuals could lose many of the important benefits and services that make Medicare Advantage health plans so valuable.”

It was a very valid point to raise… such proposals are on the table… and it makes all the sense in the world to alert people to what is going on and motivate them to call their elected officials… but it didn’t take the long for our government to come down hard on Humana.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) initiated an investigation and sent an ominous gag-order to Humana:

“As we continue our research into this issue, we are instructing you to immediately discontinue all such mailings to beneficiaries and to remove any related materials directed to Medicare enrollees from your Web sites.”

And Senator Max Baucus demanded that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services launch an “investigation” against Humana as well, claiming the letter put forth “false information,” Baucus rhetorically asked, “does the first amendment include lies?”

Of course, there’s just one small problem with Baucus’ ranting accusation. Humana was voicing an opinion that was well grounded in fact. Even the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) made the point.

Bob Ellis with Dakotavoice.com: “Even the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) confirms what the White House doesn’t want to get out, with CBO head Douglas Elmendorf telling the Senate this on Tuesday.”

The Internet website Blogcritics.com, in an article titled, Obama Violates the First Amendment, goes so far as to say that the HHS action “smacks of fascism.”

“[T]his past week the Obama administration violated its oath to uphold the Constitution by issuing a decree abridging the First Amendment right to speech.”

“In a memo to private health insurers from a senior official at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) the Obama administration issued a decree ordering them to stop informing Medicare beneficiaries that health reform legislation before Congress could hurt them and curtail their benefits if enacted. The memo went on to say that the government might take legal action against insurers that are mobilizing opposition to the legislation by sending ‘misleading and confusing’ messages to seniors.

“Say what you will about insurance companies, this is by no means a defense of them. It is instead a rebuke of an administration that is playing fast and loose with basic rights guaranteed to all Americans, including corporations. … Humana has as much right to speak out for or against federal legislation as I do. Congress, the President, and the Supreme Court have no power to abridge Humana’s right to free speech. Obama should know this, given that he is a constitutional lawyer.”

And yet, in spite of these shenanigans, Senate Republicans are still bending over backward to play Let’s Make A Deal.  Are they under some delusion that they can somehow make ObamaCare better or soften the blow if they “negotiate?”

If so, we must disabuse them of that notion here and now. We must tell them that instead of negotiating on ObamaCare, they need to focus their efforts on stopping ObamaCare.

We need to tell them to stand firm… twist some arms… pick-off some Democrats from conservative states and bring them into the fold… dare Harry Reid to shove the reconciliation process down our throats and pass ObamaCare with a simple majority (he’ll do it at the risk of destroying his own party).

The battle to stop ObamaCare is winnable… all these Senators need is a little back-bone.

What If They’re Lying To Us Now… What Will Stop Them From Lying To Us Again… And Again… And Again?
It’s clear, someone is not being straight with the American people, and such a display of mendacity simply leads us to ask more questions.

Red Star Can a government that is unwilling to act with transparency… a government that initiates investigations against those with opposing views… be trusted to act in the best interests of the American people… of you… of me?

Red Star If ObamaCare is egregious now, what will it look like in a year… or two years… or five years… will they even bother to tell us… or will every change to ObamaCare be made behind closed doors in a smoke-filled room?

Red Star Do we really want to empower the same government that is fouling-up cash-for-clunkers… the same government that is fouling-up our economy by effectively taking control of private companies… the power to foul-up our health care?

Red Star Do we really want to empower that same government to determine which life-saving treatments we will receive… that our loved-ones will receive… or don’t receive?

Red Star Do we really want government end-of-life counselors who would probably exhibit the compassion of IRS agents counseling us or our loved ones on life and death decisions?

Of course not. But too many of our so-called leaders still don’t get it. They don’t see the bigger picture.

Instead of scrapping ObamaCare… throwing it onto the ash-heap of history… they’re quibbling over what type of government-run health care they believe to be best for you and your family… and no one is fighting for you… for us… for the American people.

When Baucus unveiled his new and improved (and unwritten) version of ObamaCare, legislators (Republicans and Democrats alike) piled on… in no time flat, over 560 amendments (to an unwritten bill that was nothing more than 200 pages of notes and ideas) were put forward.

Senator Lindsey Graham perhaps said it best; “we’re making this up as we go… they’re trying to buy votes… the vision here is to pass something… they don’t give a damn what it is and nobody understands what they’re doing.”

The American people for months have been sending the message loud and clear that they want no part of ObamaCare, period, regardless of what form it takes.

The American people have been telling politicians in Washington that no amount of so-called “compromise” will make Obama’s government-run health care scheme acceptable or palatable.

And yet, these politicians keep talking… they keep amending… they keep “negotiating” … they keep trying to “compromise” and reach “consensus” … in short, they continue to waste time on something that no one wants.

Is that ridiculous, or what?

More Political Punditry…

October 1, 2009

Ahh, the stars of the show…

“President Obama’s speech to the United Nations has been called naive and even ‘post-American.’ It was something else, as well: the most extravagant excursion into self-worship we have yet seen in an American leader. Beware of politicians who claim to be ‘humbled by the responsibility the American people have placed upon me.’ It’s a neon sign flashing the opposite. And sure enough, in almost the next sentence, the president allowed that ‘I am well aware of the expectations that accompany my presidency around the world.’ Really? The whole world pulses with hope and expectation because Obama is president? People in Amsterdam, Sao Paulo and Taipei have a spring in their step because an Illinois Democrat won the White House?” –columnist Mona Charen

“America is 233 years old. Some think that there are ample accomplishments speaking to our character and cause that predate Obama’s ascension to the presidency. Feh, Obama seems to be saying. Look instead to our new greatness, for we have elected a man like him! Having anointed himself America’s vindicator and redeemer, Obama’s real purpose seems to be to become the leader not of the free world but, simply, the world.” –columnist Jonah Goldberg

“With President Obama presiding over ‘the historic session,’ the U.N. Security Council approved unanimously an American resolution committing all nations to work for — please sit up straight for this — a world free of nuclear weapons. Somewhere in the fine print was a clause praising small babies, little puppies and chocolate candy. The resolution was so harmless that even Russia, China and several ‘developing’ nations (the usual euphemism for the socialist satraps) voted for the resolution.” –columnist Wesley Pruden

“The president’s announcement that the United States would not deploy long-range missile defenses in Eastern Europe after all was astonishing because George W. Bush had negotiated so patiently with the Czechs and Poles, who took considerable risks in cooperating with Washington. … The Poles, Czechs and everyone else must hope that Obama got something from Russia in return. For now, the president looks more chump than champ. The president’s men made him look like a rube just off the turnip truck for how he gave the word to the Polish and Czech presidents, treating them to a midnight telephone call the night before he announced his decision. It looked like an afterthought, and probably felt that way, too.” –columnist Suzanne Fields

“Liberalism holds that there is no human problem that government can’t fix if only the right people are put in charge.” –former Alaska governor Sarah Palin

And then from the file non compos mentos we have…

Civil discourse 101: “The Republicans lie. They want to see you dead. They’d rather make money off your dead corpse. They kind of like it when that woman has cancer and they don’t have anything for her. That’s how the insurance companies make money, by denying the coverage.” –MSNBC’s Ed Schultz

Braying Jackass: “[T]his crazy anti-government talk [at town hall meetings] isn’t improving any body’s life. The clown show is over. It’s better now to look like you’re at least hopeful of getting a better health care plan for the country, even if you vote against it.” –MSNBC’s Chris Matthews

We hope not: “Do you think the president’s done a good enough job selling government as the solution?” –NBC’s David Gregory to Bill Clinton

The depth and seriousness of Leftmedia “journalism”: “Who would you want to swap lives with for a week?” –CBS’s Cali Carlin to Maggie Rodriguez, who answered, “Hands down, Michelle Obama.”

Defending indoctrination: “I mean, this is children. They’re singing a song. And I’m not clear myself. If you can make your point again about why this is indoctrination, political indoctrination to praise your president. I remember certainly in elementary school when Ronald Reagan was president and we sent him jelly beans. We designed all of these things about Ronald Reagan. We sent them to him. And I don’t think everybody in the class ended up a Republican because of that. … It’s about praising the president and making our country great again.” –MSNBC’s Norah O’Donnell defending the video of New Jersey kids singing to BO — another video surfaced of kids in North Carolina doing likewise

Right Wingnut Extremist’s? G-20

October 1, 2009

Sure looks like it to me… NOT!

“House Speaker Nancy Pelosi berated town hall and tea party protesters this month, tearfully warning they’d incite violence. Well, there’s been violence all right, at Pittsburgh’s G-20. But it wasn’t the tea partiers. It takes gall to characterize ordinary Americans, freely exercising their rights of speech and assembly in civic forums, as ‘mobs’ while ignoring a pack of leftist thugs now smashing a U.S. city. But that’s what Pelosi did, directing her righteous tocsin to the Norman Rockwell-like gatherings of Americans who opposed her expansion of government this past summer. ‘I have concerns about some of the language that is being used because I saw … I saw this myself in the late ’70s in San Francisco,’ Pelosi said, choking up, her eyes brimming with tears. ‘This kind of rhetoric is just, is really frightening and it created a climate in which we, violence took place and … I wish that we would all, again, curb our enthusiasm in some of the statements that are made,’ she told a congressional forum Sept. 17 in a bid to silence peaceful protesters. Scroll ahead one week to the G-20 summit in Pittsburgh: Some 1,000 hooded rioters descend on the city waving signs such as ‘Smash the G-20’ and ‘Eat the Rich.’ Many take ‘direct action’ to ‘challenge capitalism’ in what organizers brazenly call an ‘unpermitted protest.’ Unlike the town hall citizens, they didn’t ‘hurl’ statements — just tire irons, bricks and rocks, in an effort to damage private businesses. … This kind of violence is nothing new. It was found in Seattle in 1999, where former Obama administration green czar Van Jones got himself arrested. It was repeated at other summits in Turin, Italy; Washington, D.C.; and London. These leftists detest capitalism, abhor private property — and have ties to the Democratic Party. The unwillingness of the Democratic establishment to defend free markets emboldens the rioters. In destroying private property and impeding trade, these anarchists prove their aims aren’t democratic. They resemble the mobs of Castro’s Cuba who engage in violence against citizens to enforce conformity. The outrage of it all raises questions about Pelosi’s real agenda in her one-sided criticism of tea partiers. By criticizing only tea partiers and ignoring rampant thugs, she seeks to repress peaceful dissent. With that setup, it’s no surprise that there’s a mudslide of violence now rolling down on us from an energized radical left.” —Investor’s Business Daily

San Fran Nan is worried again?

September 17, 2009

Seems that Madame Speaker is concerned. Concerned about what? Losing her job perhaps? I seriously doubt that, but the Golden State of my birth has a notoriously fickle electorate. Even in the Bay Area at times. However, as I stated, I doubt it. What she probably does have valid fear about is quite simply what she, and those like her have done that could provoke some to resort to violence as a means of secession. Her astounding support of anti liberty legislation may only be topped by Frank Lautenberg, Chuck Schumer, and the late Ted Kennedy. I would speculate that the only reason for that would be her relative newness to Washington.

Nancy apparently wants to blame all these troubles on race and “astro turf.” Why not be honest Nancy? Why not point out your horrible record when it comes to sexism via legislated mysandry, your taxation policy votes, and yes, your rabid hate for the Bill of Rights? Then after you realize that you have been one of the most detrimental people ever to serve in office at any level we can give voice to all those that never had a chance to live because of you and your support for mass murdering profiteers…

Pelosi worried about angry health care rhetoric

By LAURIE KELLMAN (AP) – 46 minutes ago

WASHINGTON — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Thursday that the anti-government rhetoric over President Barack Obama’s health care reform effort is concerning because it reminds her of the violent debate over gay rights that roiled San Francisco in the 1970s.

Anyone voicing hateful or violent rhetoric, she told reporters, must take responsibility for the results.

“I have concerns about some of the language that is being used because I saw this myself in the late ’70s in San Francisco,” Pelosi said, suddenly speaking quietly. “This kind of rhetoric was very frightening” and created a climate in which violence took place, she said.

Former San Francisco Supervisor Dan White was convicted of the 1978 murders of Mayor George Moscone and openly gay supervisor Harvey Milk. Gay rights activists and some others at the time saw a link between the assassinations and the violent debate over gay rights that had preceded them for years.

During a rambling confession, White was quoted as saying, “I saw the city as going kind of downhill.” His lawyers argued that he was mentally ill at the time. White committed suicide in 1985.

Pelosi is part of a generation of California Democrats on whom the assassinations had a searing effect. A resident of San Fransisco, Pelosi had been a Democratic activist for years and knew Milk and Moscone. At the time of their murders, she was serving as chairwoman of her party in the northern part of the state.

On Thursday, Pelosi was answering a question about whether the current vitriol concerned her. The questioner did not refer to the murders of Milk or Moscone, or the turmoil in San Francisco three decades ago. Pelosi referenced those events on her own and grew uncharacteristically emotional.

“I wish that we would all, again, curb our enthusiasm in some of the statements that are made,” Pelosi said. Some of the people hearing the message “are not as balanced as the person making the statement might assume,” she said.

“Our country is great because people can say what they think and they believe,” she added. “But I also think that they have to take responsibility for any incitement that they may cause.”

Pelosi’s office did not immediately respond to a request for examples of contemporary statements that reminded the speaker of the rhetoric of 1970s San Francisco.

The public anger during health care town hall meetings in August spilled into the House last week when South Carolina Republican Joe Wilson shouted “You lie!” at Obama, the nation’s first black president, during his speech. On a largely party-line vote, the House reprimanded Wilson.
