Anyone that is a regular reader here knows that I am a staunch supporter of Gun Owners of America. The NRA, while good, all to often pussyfoots around or compromises. Something that I for one refuse to do when it comes to our rights. Read and enjoy!
by Tim Macy, GOA Vice-Chairman
With all the nonsense being uttered by political leaders who are blaming American gun owners for the violence in Mexico, it’s refreshing to hear at least one elected official offer some common sense: Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County, Arizona.
Sheriff Arpaio takes his oath of office to protect and defend the U.S. Constitution seriously. He is also fully committed to doing his part to protect our homeland from people who are here illegally. In fact, the Sheriff would make quite an effective Director of Homeland Security.
Employing more than 3,000 people, Arpaio runs the nation’s third largest Sheriff’s office in the fourth most populous county. He has gained fame over the years for tough, no-nonsense law-enforcement tactics.
When faced with a shortage of cells, Arpaio bought army surplus tents and surrounded them with a barbed wire fence. He also upset the soft-on-crime crowd by “outrageous” actions such as banning smoking and pornography and requiring inmates to wear pink underwear. And he actually makes prisoners work on roads and other manual labor. Inmates are in prison, after all, not in day care.
Arpaio is most well known for his strong stance against illegal immigration. In 2005, Arizona made smuggling illegal aliens a state felony. That action empowered officers such as Sheriff Arpaio to enforce immigration law, something at which the federal government has failed miserably.
But perhaps what enrages the anti-gun liberal establishment the most — though it almost never makes the news — is that Sheriff Arpaio actually believes in the Second Amendment and he trusts average citizens with firearms! Arpaio deputized citizen volunteers from every walk of life and income bracket. These citizen-volunteers patrol malls, arrest graffiti violators, dead beat parents, and even illegal aliens. The volunteers furnish their own airplanes, jeeps and horses — and they are armed. [Read more about Sheriff Joe!]

In yet another mind-boggling illustration that much of the upper echelon of American leadership, even some military leadership, is totally detached from reality, the United States Navy has given Rep. “Fightin'” John Murtha (D-PA) its Distinguished Public Service Award, the highest public service recognition given to a non-employee by the Department of the Navy. This would be the same John Murtha who, in May 2006, slandered U.S. Marines by accusing them of war crimes, saying they were nothing but “cold-blooded killers” who “murdered innocent civilians.”
The Navy’s perverse citation says that Murtha “ensured” that the America’s sailors and Marines “were provided the resources necessary to effectively conduct the global war on terrorism.” Words fail us in trying to describe the juxtaposition of Murtha’s award with his actions in the real world.
Needless to say, there are plenty of folks who are displeased with the Navy’s actions. The director of the Vets For Freedom Educational Institute, Gabe Ledeen, who is also a Marine veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom, has posted a “Don’t Honor John Murtha” petition online, rightly saying that Murtha is unworthy of such an award. The petition calls on Murtha to “apologize for slandering the Marines … and for undermining the efforts of those servicemen and women who fought in Iraq,” pointing out that Murtha “has routinely and deliberately undermined the United States military, slandered servicemen serving in combat, and caused irreparable damage to our international reputation.” If Murtha doesn’t apologize, the award should be rescinded. Perhaps those in the Navy responsible for this decision should also apologize for giving a lying, treasonous coward one of its highest awards.

Well just what can you really expect from someone that put himself in for medals, then threw them away, but the medals were actually someone else’s, and also negotiated with enemy government representatives while still serving as a reserve officer in the United States Navy? John Kerry deserves to be tarred and feathered, then hung until dead, period. Not a United States Senator that is still determined to undermine and destroy the Constitution if not the United States of America. He has been in league with the international felon George Soros to that end, and now this?
With escalating drug-related violence continuing unabated in Mexico, anti-gun elected officials in Washington continue to let no tragedy go unexploited.
The latest to add his voice to the anti-gun chorus should come as a surprise to no one, as Senator John Kerry (D-Mass.) has a long voting record in support of gun control.
This week, Kerry called sending National Guard troops to the U.S.-Mexican border “premature and possibly counterproductive.” But Kerry had no qualms in supporting additional restrictions on law-abiding American gun owners. (http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/03/30/kerry-mexico-failed-state/)
For a fleeting moment Kerry sounded a hopeful tone in his remarks in El Paso when he noted the need to “work harder to enforce existing gun laws against exporting weapons across international borders.” However, Kerry reverted to his usual anti-gun talking points as he called for a ban on imported “assault rifles” (presumably he meant semi-auto “assault weapons”) into the U.S.—a ban that has existed since 1989.
Senator Kerry is either confused about what an “assault rifle” is, is ignorant of the parameters of the existing import ban, or more likely, simply wants to expand his gun control crusade. In either case, and as noted earlier, none of this should come as a surprise from a failed presidential candidate who tried to camouflage his decades long voting record against the Second Amendment by trying to reinvent himself as a “sportsman.” Senator Kerry’s plan to stop the international trafficking of firearms into Mexico by banning legal importation of firearms into the United States simply defies logic and common sense.
American gun owners should be outraged when a sitting U.S. Senator dismisses tightening up our nation’s border security as “possibly counterproductive”, but has no qualms about passing additional restrictions that will be avoided and evaded by criminals.

The story of Danny Dietz is one of courage and honor. I have it under the Valhalla heading for any that are interested in learning more about him. I recieved more hate mail for that piece than just about any other story I have ever posted about. I also got more then a few thanking me for getting the word out. Including three from current and former lawmakers.
Colorado stepped up to the plate and hit a home run by dedicating a much traveled road after him.
H/T the Denver Post, even broken clocks are correct twice a day! 😀
Lawmakers choked back tears Friday as they honored a slain naval officer by renaming a stretch of South Santa Fe Drive in his honor.
The road from C-470 to Interstate 25 will be known as Petty Officer Danny Dietz Memorial Highway.
Dietz grew up in Littleton and graduated from Heritage High School.
His family laughed when Sen. Mike Kopp R-Littleton, told how Dietz wanted to be Ninja warrior when he grew up. Instead, he became a Navy SEAL.
Kopp recounted Dietz’s death in 2005 after a gun battle with the Taliban in Afghanistan

It appears that decent Americans are again back on the roller coaster that authoritarians seem to love so much. Tell the public one thing then turn right around and do another. Such as prosecute decent people for doing what the hell they are supposed to do!
H/T to No Compromise!

1st. Lt. Michael Behenna
I received a plea for help from a friend of mine who wanted to get the word out about 1st Lieutenant Michael Behenna who was just sentenced to 25 years in prison for defending himself against Ali Mansur, a known terrorist, and member of al Qaeda, who was part of an 2008 attack against Behenna’s platoon where two soldiers were killed.
You can read the story here.
Is this another Ramos and Compeon travesty? I think so!! However, you read the piece, and if you think so plz post a story about Behanna and consider putting a widget on your sidebar directing your readers to the Defend Michael Blog.
No one should go to prison for defending themselves against terrorists! But even more important is that the prosecution deliberately withheld evidence that would have cleared this soldier! If anyone should go to prison it’s these crazed career lawyers who would rather withhold pertinent evidence than to see justice prevail! I am asking you to bring attention to this travesty! None of us are safe anymore from predatory lawyers!
Please let me know what you think and pass this email around to other bloggers you know.
Thank you, and
Kindest regards,
Tracy

Profiles of Valor: U.S. Army Sgt. Malone
Malone
United States Army Sergeant First Class Ed Malone was serving with the 3rd Platoon, Grim Troop, 2nd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment in 2005 and was conducting a joint combat patrol with the Iraqi Army in the extremely hostile Surai district of Tal’Afar, when the unit was attacked. Without immediate direct fire support from his Bradley Fighting Vehicles, Malone ordered his men to take a defensive position and return fire. He directed his grenadier to eliminate several enemy targets firing from a rooftop. Malone also repeatedly exposed himself to enemy fire — once to retrieve important equipment, another time to evacuate women and children caught in the crossfire, and finally to drag a wounded soldier out of the line of fire. His actions sped medical treatment and evacuation, saving the soldier’s life. Malone refused to give ground until reinforcements arrived, and he and his unit held their position for more than an hour. He led a three-man team to clear a courtyard of enemy fighters, relieving pressure on his unit. There, while administering aid to an enemy combatant, Malone was shot in the foot. For his brave actions that day, Malone was awarded the Bronze Star with combat “V” for valor.

GUNNY BOB LAUNCHES
OPERATION “LEATHERNECK COMFORT”
In Support of
Marine Parents (www.marineparents.com) and Marines in Combat In Iraq and Afghanistan
A 501 (c)(3) Charity
Every year, Gunny Bob comes up with a very worthy charity drive. We’ve done Operation “Beanie Baby,” which sent nearly 50,000 Beanie Babies to the children of Iraq; Operation “Leatherneck Sheets,” which sent huge numbers of cotton sheets to Marines in Iraq to keep them cool in the blazing heat of the Middle East; and Operation “Cancun Honeymoon,” which raised more than $8,000 to send badly wounded Marine Corporal Aaron Mankin and his Marine wife on the honeymoon they never got because they were in the war serving you instead.
Now Gunny Bob and Marine Parents announce Operation “Leatherneck Comfort,” which we hope will raise $5,000 for combat Marines, including Purple Heart recipients, and their families.
The Gunny is asking you, his troops, to once again answer the call of duty by contributing to Operation “Leatherneck Comfort” by clicking on the link to your left and donating through PayPal or your credit card. Please give whatever you can afford and remember that your generous, tax-deductable contribution will make Marines in combat (http://www.thecarepackageproject.com/) and those who can no longer serve because of their grievous wounds, or who are recovering from their wounds in military hospitals (http://www.purpleheartfamilies.com/), a little more comfortable.
America has counted on its Marine Corps since 1775. Now you can return the favor by donating to this outstanding charity. Your Marines and their families need you.

Outrageous is too kind a term. The latest assault on America by the impostor in chief is almost impossible to believe. But? What the hell they are only Americans that served their country after all. Leave it to an attorney to treat things like service related injuries as a workman’s compensation suit that passes the buck anywhere just so long as his interest are not the ones that will be paying…
I have a category called “Valhalla” on this blog for a reason. Those that have been injured in the service of our nation deserve respect if not outright admiration. Apparently the President sees no need for any such thing.
What sort of outrage am I writing about this time..? Read on folks, read on.

A look at organizational responsibility and just how things are handled when things don’t go as planned is the subject of the essay below. All too often over the years I have seen situations where the buck was passed. Be it in Emergency Medical Services, the Fire Service, or in Public Safety and seemingly all the way up the ladder. It is refreshing indeed to see that the United States Marine Corps plays the leadership game in a more responsible manner.
I looked in sheer horror at the television screen that morning. Seeing what had happened right next to where I had worked many years ago at University City Arco. This is what happened, and how the Marines are addressing it.
“It’s Dec. 8, 2008, 11:11 a.m., and a young Marine pilot takes off from an aircraft carrier, the USS Abraham Lincoln, on a routine training flight. The carrier is maybe 90 miles southwest of San Diego. Lt. Dan Neubauer is flying an F/A-18 Hornet. Minutes into the flight, he notices low oil pressure in one of the two engines. He shuts it down. Then the light shows low fuel for the other engine. He’s talking to air traffic control and given options and suggestions on where to make an emergency landing. He can go to the naval air station at North Island, the route to which takes him over San Diego Bay, or he can go to the Marine air station at Miramar, with which he is more familiar, but which takes him over heavily populated land. He goes for Miramar. The second engine flames out. About three miles from the runway, the electrical system dies. Lt. Neubauer tries to aim the jet toward a canyon, and ejects at what all seem to agree is the last possible moment. The jet crashed nose down in the University City neighborhood of San Diego, hitting two homes and damaging three. Four people, all members of a Korean immigrant family, were killed — 36-year-old Youngmi Lee; her daughters, Grace, 15 months, and Rachel, 2 months, and her 60-year-old mother, Seokim Kim. Lee’s husband, a grocer named Dong Yun Yoon, was at work. The day after he’d lost his family, he humbled and awed San Diego by publicly forgiving the pilot — ‘I know he did everything he could’ — and speaking of his faith — ‘I know God is taking care of my family.’ … The Marines launched an investigation — of themselves. [Last] Wednesday the results were announced. They could not have been tougher, or more damning. The crash, said Maj. Gen. Randolph Alles, the assistant wing commander for the Third Marine Aircraft Wing, was ‘clearly avoidable,’ the result of ‘a chain of wrong decisions.’ … Twelve Marines were disciplined; four senior officers, including the squadron commander, were removed from duty. Their military careers are, essentially, over. The pilot is grounded while a board reviews his future. … A young Naval aviator [who also flies the F-18] said the Marine investigation ‘kept me up last night’ because of how it contrasted with ‘the buck-passing we see’ in the government and on Wall Street. By contrast, he says, when the economy came crashing down, ‘nowhere did we see a board come out and say: “This is what happened, these are the decisions these particular people made, and this was the result. They are no longer a part of our organization.” There was no timeline of events or laymen’s explanation of how a credit derivative was actually derived. We did not see congressmen get on television with charts and eviscerate their organization and say, “These were the men who in 2003 allowed Freddie and Fannie unlimited rein over mortgage securities.” Instead we saw … everybody against everybody else with no one stepping forth and saying, “We screwed up.”‘ There is no one in national leadership who could convincingly ‘assign blame,’ and no one ‘who could or would accept it.'” –columnist Peggy Noonan

Can you say Stupid is as stupid does? I knew ya could! 😀
Here we go again. In yet another case of over reactive, one-size-fits-all, “zero-tolerance,” zero-common sense enforcement, Marie Morrow, an honors student and drill-team commander in the Young Marines, was recently expelled from school. Her crime? She left three rifle-shaped drill team props in the back of her car at Cherokee Trail High School in Aurora, Colo. Colorado law mandates expulsion for any student found with a “dangerous weapon” on school grounds, which includes “a firearm facsimile that could reasonably be mistaken for an actual firearm.”
The non-operative rifle props are used during drill routines, where the facsimiles are spun and tossed. The props are made of wood and plastic, are heavily duct-taped and, of course, cannot function and were never intended to. Morrow had brought them to school because she was preparing for a competition at the Air Force Academy in April and planned to attend a practice right after school.
update: I saw on the news that she has been allowed to return to school. Still, the expulsion, based upon total bullshit, could have an effect later in her life for security clearances.
