Corruption endemic in the Mexican government: The Mexican Wall

October 2, 2010

Under cover of media darkness, Mexico has been building a wall on its southern border with Guatemala, ostensibly to stop the flow of drugs. Yet Mexican Superintendent of Tax Administration Raul Diaz admits the wall will also prevent the free passage of illegal aliens.

Some 500,000 illegals sneak into Mexico annually. Compared to all Mexicans currently living illegally in American cities, taking full advantage of the benefits stubbornly preserved for them by bankrupt city, state and governments, Mexico’s illegal influx is a mere pittance, but it’s enough to anger opponents. Still, Guatemala doesn’t want its escape hatch closed. As Vice President Rafael Espada opined, “The walls are not the solution to the problems.”

The Catholic Church entered the fray quickly in the person of Fr. Francisco Pellizari, an Italian working in Mexico with illegals. In an interesting, if somewhat daft, line of reasoning, Pellizari claims, “The dramatic increase in the cost of ‘polleros’ (human traffickers) and the corruption of the authorities is the result of the walls the United States plans to build and has built along the border. [The] results will be the same” in Guatemala. More to the point is the mordida, Mexican slang for “bribe”: in the “small” sense, the bribe given a Mexican official to look the other way; but in the larger sense, it’s the corruption endemic in the Mexican government.

Mexican President Felipe Calderon as yet hasn’t commented. However, when Arizona’s SB 1070 passed, Calderon blew a gasket, denouncing the law as an invitation “to intolerance, hate, discrimination and abuse in law enforcement” — each one an attribute that Mexico’s immigration laws exhibit. Calderon’s own government will bar outsiders “found to be physically or mentally unhealthy … economic burdens on society” or anyone who shows contempt for national sovereignty. Being in Mexico illegally is punishable by two years in a Mexican prison.

As we’ve seen time and time again, the guiltiest are always the first to point fingers. Oh, Mexico! Thy name is Hypocrisy!

Non compos mentos, or stupid is as stupid does? Mexico Mayors “Blame America First”

October 2, 2010

Well, just when you think you have heard just about everything, Fox News reports that “A coalition of Mexican mayors has asked the United States to stop deporting illegal immigrants who have been convicted of serious crimes in the U.S. to Mexican border cities, saying the deportations are contributing to Mexican border violence.”

Apparently, the mayor of Juarez — the world’s most murder-plagued city, across the border from low-crime El Paso where Americans are able to buy and carry guns for protection — said “that of the 80,000 people deported to Juarez in the past three years, 28,000 had U.S. criminal records — including 7,000 convicted rapists and 2,000 convicted murderers.”

This, on the heels of a CNN story noting that Mexico’s foreign minister, Patricia Espinosa, has claimed that violence in the United States is not related to illegal Mexican immigrants, but that Mexico’s violence is caused by guns smuggled into Mexico from the United States.

Predisposed to spinning the news in favor of gun control, CNN attempted to bolster Espinosa’s claim by quoting a former Carter Administration staffer to the effect that, as CNN put it, “more than 90 percent of weapons in Mexico come from the United States.”

Feds Sue Sheriff Arpaio in Civil Rights Probe

September 3, 2010

This, is just plain disgusting…

The U.S. Justice Department sued Sheriff Joe Arpaio on Thursday, saying the Arizona lawman refused for more than a year to turn over records in an investigation into allegations his department discriminates against Hispanics.

The lawsuit calls Arpaio and his Maricopa County office’s defiance “unprecedented,” and said the federal government has been trying since March 2009 to get officials to comply with its probe of alleged discrimination, unconstitutional searches and seizures, and jail policies that discriminate against people with limited English skills.

Arpaio, who had been given until Aug. 17 to hand over documents the federal government asked for 15 months ago, called the Justice Department actions harassment.

His office has said it won’t hand over additional documents because federal authorities haven’t said exactly what they were investigating.

“They have hundreds of thousands of reports, hundreds of thousands,” Arpaio said at a news conference Thursday morning in downtown Phoenix. “They’re so broad, we’re trying to narrow it down. We’re trying to work with them.”

The lawsuit is a ruse, Arpaio said.

“I think they know we have not been racial profiling, so what’s the next step — camouflage the situation, go to the courts, and make it look like I’m not cooperating?” he said.

Arizona’s Illegal Immigrant Law: A quick and dirty fix?

September 1, 2010

Having lost a position that was perhaps the best that I ever was privileged to enjoy, at least in part, because of caring for illegal immigrants. The place simply went broke…

Those that are opposed to the courageous stand taken by Arizona are for the most part simply race baiting, or dislike law enforcement in general.

Here is my quick and dirty fix, and it should pass Constitutional muster as well as show the race baiting segment that it is about public safety, not race.

ANYONE stopped, for anything, would have to have their citizenship status verified. The vast majority of police contacts are traffic related, and most states now require proof of citizenship. Same for state identification cards. Would this add to an Officers burden? How? Every contact get’s ran for wants and warrants and if the drivers license or I.D. is phony somebody is going to the Gray Bar Inn! Make it a state misdemeanor, like Arizona did, in every state to be there unlawfully, and let the feds take it from there. Six months should be plenty of time for them to act. Especially if there were also other related charges.

But, that would probably be to simple a fix for government to wrap their minds around.

Political incorrectness: must be Conservative or Libertarian

September 1, 2010

“Are you opposed to Obamacare or illegal immigration? You’re a racist. Are you opposed to gay marriage? You’re a homophobe. Did you oppose Elena Kagan’s appointment to the Supreme Court? You’re a sexist. After less than two years of complete Democrat control of government, there aren’t many Americas progressives haven’t accused of some sort of bigotry for simply having an opinion different from theirs. The politics of ‘hope’ and ‘change’ have devolved into exactly what those espousing them claimed they would end. Is this really Democrat’s plan to win votes in November?” –writer Derek Hunter

“The Democrats are going to get beaten badly in November. Not just because the economy is ailing. And not just because Obama overread his mandate in governing too far left. But because a comeuppance is due the arrogant elites whose undisguised contempt for the great unwashed prevents them from conceding a modicum of serious thought to those who dare oppose them.” –columnist Charles Krauthammer

“Those who mocked George W. Bush for openly declaring his faith in God and sharing that he prays to God for strength squawked about the horrors in Bush’s allowing his beliefs to influence his governance. Apart from the mockers’ misunderstanding of the proper intersection of faith and governance, let me pose another question. Are you more comfortable with a chief executive who, along with the overwhelming majority of Americans, humbly admits to reliance on God or one who projects the impression that he himself is messianic?” –columnist David Limbaugh

“Alan Simpson violated a taboo last week when he likened Social Security to ‘a milk cow with 310 million tits.’ But contrary to the dictionary-deprived critics who accused him of sexist vulgarity, the former Wyoming senator’s transgression had nothing to do with his use of a perfectly acceptable synonym for teat. Simpson’s real sin was ‘belittling a bedrock program,’ as the AARP put it — i.e., showing insufficient reverence for a sacred cow.” –columnist Jacob Sullum

“To those who say ‘I paid into Social Security for years and all I want is what I’m entitled to,’ I reply, ‘You’ve been robbed — get over it.’ If you want to know who robbed you, it’s called Congress. If you’re angry about that then go into the voting booth and throw them out. Meanwhile some poor young fry cook at McDonald’s is having his wages garnished to support the lifestyle of tennis playing Botox dowagers in Palm Springs. Is this right?” –venture capitalist Bill Frezza

Mexico: Play the race card… Again?

June 9, 2010

This is getting old. Twice in recent days Mexican citizens have been killed in the United States. While the latest incident is still under investigation the previous one involved a man that had been here for many years, and was actually being deported. He became violent, and got tazed. At autopsy he was found to have been acutely intoxicated with methamphetamine. Imagine that? Loud mouth Calderon accused the United States of torture. Go figure…

Now, the Governor of one of the failed nation state Mexico is playing the race card in explaining away what happened during the second incident. Tell me El Presidente, and Governor. How many Americans were killed by your criminals that have come across our borders lately? What sort of lame excuses will you make up about that?

How’s about Mexico just going ahead and openly declaring war? For some strange reason I just don’t see Mexico having the macho intestinal fortitude to do that…

And then we have this…

“National Security: A Mexican cartel plots to blow up a dam — in Texas! Another pack of Mexican terrorists takes cash from Hugo Chavez. And what is Washington wringing its hands about? Why, racism in Arizona. If still more proof is needed that the border needs to be secured, the latest threats emerging from Mexico should do the trick. Together, they signal that the country’s war could advance to a more savage stage. … These blood-chilling scenarios aren’t fantasies. They are signs of an emerging threat that gets little attention from U.S. lawmakers. Instead of focusing on making the border secure, they play partisan political games, pandering to potential voting blocs by dangling amnesty in front of illegal immigrants, grandstanding against Arizona’s effort to enforce federal law and coming up with one excuse after another for not erecting a border fence. As illegal armed groups plot to blow up infrastructure even in this country, Democrats in Congress are more concerned about an illegal immigrant getting his feelings hurt if a police officer in Arizona asks him to show some ID.” —Investor’s Business Daily

The Arizona Immigration Law

June 9, 2010

There is another poll having to do with the not really controversial law passed recently in Arizona regarding illegal immigration.

Take the poll and see the results HERE.

Why do I say that it is in fact not really controversial? When the approval rate is as high as it is that shows a lack of controversy. In fact, the only controversy about it is brought to you by

1200 Troops to 1969 mile border: Epic fail obama

May 26, 2010

The impostor in chiefs latest gambit for increasing poll numbers prior to the November elections? Put a band aid on what, metaphorically, is a shotgun wound to the torso. That, and throw more money at the problem.

Friend and fellow blogger Texas Fred has called what is happening down there an invasion, and he is correct. 1200 National Guardsmen being deployed along a border that stretches nearly 2,000 miles? Simply not enough, period. Then, what will be the ROE’s? Will they be unarmed, as was the situation under Bush?

This, ladies and gentlemen, is a disaster waiting to happen. The old goat RINO, John McCain, remember him, the amnesty guy that wanted to be President? Now that it’s election time, he sure has changed his tune. Imagine that… Just about everything that’s going on right now in politics, is geared to one thing. Maintaining the status quo. Which means keeping the same people in power that are wrecking this nation.

Democrats Push for National ID

May 9, 2010

At least since 9/11, the Democrats have, if anything, been even worse than the Republicans in their push for a national ID. I recall the Bush administration, very early on, dismissing this totalitarian idea, although Bush soon enough signed the Real ID Act into law, with the support of hawkish and anti-immigration conservatives. But the establishment left is also a major threat on this front, and Democrats traditionally get a pass on civil liberties issues, whereas under Republicans there is more populist criticism of surveillance, police powers and the like.

Consider the Orwellian program being proposed by the Democratic leadership as part of “immigration reform.” Alexander Bolton writes:

Democratic leaders have proposed requiring every worker in the nation to carry a national identification card with biometric information, such as a fingerprint, within the next six years, according to a draft of the measure. The proposal is one of the biggest differences between the newest immigration reform proposal and legislation crafted by late Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.) and Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.). The national ID program would be titled the Believe System, an acronym for Biometric Enrollment, Locally stored Information and Electronic Verification of Employment. It would require all workers across the nation to carry a card with a digital encryption key that would have to match work authorization databases.

Whereas the Kennedy/McCain bill was bad enough, containing both positive elements and nasty ones, this new monstrosity would force leviathan’s way even further into every employment relationship. And this actually speaks to the false dichotomy between civil and economic liberties. Both incorrectly bifurcated forms of freedom are rooted in the same set of property rights, first and foremost in one’s own person and, by extension, in the tangible property one acquires justly through homesteading, gifts and honest market transactions. If Big Brother tries to comprehensively regulate immigration, he can smash economic freedom of association. And if the state has the power to oversee our economic lives, our personal freedom will always suffer in the process.
