Does money and praise make an endorsement?
September 8, 2010Last week the National Rifle Association officially announced they were not endorsing Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D – NV).
They also went out of their way to make it clear they were not endorsing Reid’s opponent, Republican Sharon Angle — who filled out the National Association for Gun Rights Federal Candidate Survey 100% pro-gun. A typical Washington non-statement, statement.
The NRA’s “non-endorsement” statement brings up a number of important questions.
Does giving a candidate money not constitute a more-than-tacit endorsement? The NRA’s Federal PAC gave Harry Reid $4,950 this year, for his 2010 reelection campagin.
Does speaking glowingly of a candidate or politician during an election year not constitute an endorsement? In the June 2010 edition (page 16-18) of the NRA’s magazine, the American Rifleman, they featured an article highlighting the work Harry Reid has done with the NRA.
I firmly believe that actions speak louder than press releases.
In that spirit, our cartoonist outlined just what that the NRA’s “non-endorsement” really means.

Please feel to forward this cartoon to all of your gun owning friends and relatives.

Epic Fail obama: Woof!
September 7, 2010Sorry epic failure, but no, we don’t talk to you like you are a dog. Simply put, it’s the economy stupid! It’s what you and your cronies are doing to the nation. It’s what you are doing to the Constitution that you swore to uphold and defend. It’s about the Bill of Rights. It’s about the rule of law, all laws, not just the cherry picked ones that you happen to like. It’s about you paying off your cronies in the unions and other places. Like the Joyce Foundation and others.
What’s this about? Go read THIS!
Oh, and I almost forgot. Are you an illegal alien obama? Those ears make you look a lot like a Romulan…
Epic Fail Obama:State Department Squirms
September 4, 2010A lot of things have changed in the federal government since President Harry S. Truman put his famous “the buck stops here” sign on his desk. This week, Fox News reported that it couldn’t get a straight answer from the State Department about its decision in March to disapprove the importation of more than 800,000 M1 Garand rifles and M1 carbines from South Korea.
According to Fox, the State Department claimed that the rifles might be used “for illicit purposes.” But when asked to explain, State passed the buck to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, which passed it to the Department of Justice, which passed it back to State.
The anti-gun Brady Campaign didn’t hesitate to give Fox an answer, however. “Guns that can take high-capacity magazines are a threat to public safety,” the group’s Dennis Henigan told reporter Maxim Lott.
Of course, Henigan’s response was factually flawed. The M1 Garand does not “take” a “high-capacity” magazine; its magazine is built in, and holds only eight rounds. That’s three fewer than the 11 rounds necessary for a magazine to be restricted as a “large capacity” magazine under California’s law, which the Brady Campaign calls a “model for the nation,” or the federal ban of 1994-2004 (which the group still advocates as a fall-back position in the event that Congress doesn’t impose something more severe).
Since sales of imported firearms are subject to the national instant background check, Henigan’s position was also hypocritical. To justify not letting the M1s and carbines into the U.S., Henigan essentially took the position that the instant check is not enough to protect public safety. But at other times, Brady takes the position that public safety requires us to impose the same instant checks on sales of firearms by people who are not dealers.
Finally, the “public safety” fear of these guns is irrational. Today, Americans own more Garands and carbines than ever before. We also own more semi-automatic rifles in general than ever before, and more self-defense handguns with standard magazines that hold more than 10 rounds than ever before. Yet despite gun ban groups’ predictions, the nation’s violent crime rate is at a 35-year low.
Feds Sue Sheriff Arpaio in Civil Rights Probe
September 3, 2010This, is just plain disgusting…
The U.S. Justice Department sued Sheriff Joe Arpaio on Thursday, saying the Arizona lawman refused for more than a year to turn over records in an investigation into allegations his department discriminates against Hispanics.
The lawsuit calls Arpaio and his Maricopa County office’s defiance “unprecedented,” and said the federal government has been trying since March 2009 to get officials to comply with its probe of alleged discrimination, unconstitutional searches and seizures, and jail policies that discriminate against people with limited English skills.
Arpaio, who had been given until Aug. 17 to hand over documents the federal government asked for 15 months ago, called the Justice Department actions harassment.
His office has said it won’t hand over additional documents because federal authorities haven’t said exactly what they were investigating.
“They have hundreds of thousands of reports, hundreds of thousands,” Arpaio said at a news conference Thursday morning in downtown Phoenix. “They’re so broad, we’re trying to narrow it down. We’re trying to work with them.”
The lawsuit is a ruse, Arpaio said.
“I think they know we have not been racial profiling, so what’s the next step — camouflage the situation, go to the courts, and make it look like I’m not cooperating?” he said.
Is the Tea Party Becoming the New Grand Old Party?
September 3, 2010I came across this in my email, and I think it’s an interesting read. Be sure to follow the link.
Is the tea party the new Republican Party?
The grass-roots network of fed-up conservative-libertarian displayed its power in its biggest triumph of the election year: the toppling of Sen. Lisa Murkowski in Alaska’s GOP primary. Political novice Joe Miller is the fifth tea party insurgent to win a GOP Senate nominating contest, an upset that few, if any, saw coming.
With the stunning outcome, the fledgling tea party coalition and voters who identify with its anti-tax, anti-spending sentiments proved that democracy is alive and well — within the Republican Party. Don’t like who is representing you? Rise up, fire them and choose someone new.
The tea party has taken hold in the Grand Old Party, unseating lawmakers, capturing nominations for open seats and forcing Republicans to recalibrate both their campaign strategy and issues agenda. Out is talk of delivering federal dollars back home; in is talk of fiscal discipline.
Within minutes of Murkowski conceding late Tuesday night, Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., was among the conservative Republicans cheering Miller.
“He pulled off the upset victory of the year because he ran on principles and because Alaskans, like all Americans, want to stop the massive spending, bailouts and debt that are bankrupting our country,” said DeMint.
Taking a shot at Murkowski if not the entire Republican establishment, he added: “Joe Miller’s victory should be a wake-up call to politicians who go to Washington to bring home the bacon. Voters are saying ‘We’re not willing to bankrupt the country to benefit ourselves.'”
Arizona’s Illegal Immigrant Law: A quick and dirty fix?
September 1, 2010Having lost a position that was perhaps the best that I ever was privileged to enjoy, at least in part, because of caring for illegal immigrants. The place simply went broke…
Those that are opposed to the courageous stand taken by Arizona are for the most part simply race baiting, or dislike law enforcement in general.
Here is my quick and dirty fix, and it should pass Constitutional muster as well as show the race baiting segment that it is about public safety, not race.
ANYONE stopped, for anything, would have to have their citizenship status verified. The vast majority of police contacts are traffic related, and most states now require proof of citizenship. Same for state identification cards. Would this add to an Officers burden? How? Every contact get’s ran for wants and warrants and if the drivers license or I.D. is phony somebody is going to the Gray Bar Inn! Make it a state misdemeanor, like Arizona did, in every state to be there unlawfully, and let the feds take it from there. Six months should be plenty of time for them to act. Especially if there were also other related charges.
But, that would probably be to simple a fix for government to wrap their minds around.
Regulatory Commissars: They Knew Drilling Ban Would Kill Jobs
August 28, 2010With unemployment hovering at 9.5 percent — real total unemployment, called U6, is much higher — what’s another 23,000 jobs lost? Apparently, not much to Barack Obama. Previously unreleased documents show that his administration issued the federal moratorium on deepwater drilling despite knowing the ban would kill thousands of jobs. According to The Wall Street Journal, the documents reveal that Michael Bromwich, the head regulator of offshore oil exploration, told Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar that the temporary ban “would result in ‘lost direct employment’ affecting approximately 9,450 workers and ‘lost jobs from indirect and induced effects’ affecting about 13,797 more.”
Also, regardless of confirmation from the region of the moratorium’s devastating impact, the government says the ban will continue. That’s right — the beatings will continue until morale improves. Reflecting its typical “we know best” disdain for the peasants, the administration has even claimed the impact wasn’t as bad as industry experts said. Try telling that to those 23,000 former workers.
In related news, House Republican Leader John Boehner has called on Obama to fire Treasury Secretary Tim “Tax Cheat” Geithner, National Economic Council Head Larry Summers, and the rest of the White House economic team. (Senior Economic Adviser Christina Romer and Budget Director Peter Orszag have already abandoned ship.) Pointing to “job-killing tax hike[s],” skyrocketing spending and a penchant for new regulations, Boehner said, “We’ve tried 19 months of government-as-community organizer. It hasn’t worked.” A political chess move to be sure, but we won’t argue that government-as-community organizer is getting rather expensive.
Epic fail obama:Obama administration continued its apology tour…
August 28, 2010Administration Hammers U.S. on Human Rights
The Obama administration continued its apology tour last Friday when it submitted a 29-page report to the UN’s High Commissioner for Human Rights, offering a critique of the state of human rights in the U.S. The report is part of the UN Human Rights Council’s “Universal Periodic Review” — the part of the show where nations grade their own records on human rights. Of course, the fact that such virtuous champions of human rights as China, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Libya and Cuba occupy seats on the Council exposes this as a farce.
The administration laments, “We are not satisfied with a situation where the unemployment rate for African Americans is 15.8%, for Hispanics 12.4%, and for whites 8.8%.” Is anyone satisfied with that? On the other hand, the report lauds the election of our nation’s first black president; the passage of ObamaCare, which “makes great strides toward the goal that all Americans have access to quality, affordable health care”; and the financial overhaul, which addresses “predatory” and “discriminatory” lending. If he does say so himself!
The report also praises its author’s intentions of closing the prison at Guantanamo Bay and ending the military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy. So the only things Obama finds worth lauding are the passage of leftist agenda items and the personality cult surrounding his own election. For the first time in his life, it seems, he’s actually proud to be an American. Sort of.
