Those Lying Flip-floppiing Politicians

The 2012 elections have now entered the homestretch.  The candidate debates are ramping up, and politicians all over the country are blanketing the airwaves with lies about their legislative records.
It’s not a new problem.  Remember the now-infamous quote from presidential hopeful Kerry about the Iraq War:  “I actually did vote for the $87 billion before I voted against it.”
Rarely has a politician exposed himself more shamefully than the Massachusetts Democrat did back in 2003.  Of course, everyone knows that most politicians do what Kerry did — they are just a lot better in disguising their duplicity.
Gun Owners of America has released its Candidate Rating — something the organization has done for more than two decades — to help gun owners ferret out those lying politicians who “voted for your gun rights before they voted against them.”
Consider a recent letter from Democrat Senator Claire McCaskill of Missouri to a GOA activist who is a constituent in her state.  Asked whether she would support this pro-gun legislation to allow gun owners to carry their guns across the country, McCaskill said:
“I strongly support legal and safe gun ownership by law-abiding citizens and have consistently voted to uphold this constitutional right.   For example, in the 111th Congress, I voted to … require the National Park Service to honor state gun laws when gun owners enter National Parks in their states.”
Did this Senator — who is F-rated by GOA — really vote to repeal the National Parks gun ban?  Hardly.  You see, this is where McCaskill pulls a “John Kerry,” essentially saying:  “I supported gun rights before I opposed them.”
When the repeal of this gun ban came before her, McCaskill opposed it — voting against a stand-alone amendment to repeal the National Parks gun ban which was added to a credit card “reform” bill.  (Senate Roll Call #188, May 12, 2009.)
Later on, she supported the underlying credit card bill so, presumably, Sen. McCaskill must think this allows her to say she helped repeal the National Parks gun ban — even though she voted against it when it was a stand-alone amendment.
In other words, she supported the National Parks gun ban before she “opposed” it.
Considering politicians’ tendency to obfuscate, how is a gun owner to know where his member of Congress really stands on the Second Amendment?  To be honest, it’s a full-time job tracking down the voting records of all the candidates.
And this is why Gun Owners of America surveys all the candidates for Congress.  It’s why we rate Congressmen, not on what they say, but on how they vote.  It’s why we try to put a Candidate Rating into as many gun owners’ hands as we can prior to the election.

The increased dependence of the individual upon government which inflation produces and the demand for move government action to which this leads may for the socialist be an argument in its favor. Those who wish to preserve freedom should recognize, however, that inflation is probably the most important single factor in that vicious circle wherein one kind of government action makes more and more government control necessary. For this reason, all those who wish to stop the drift toward increasing government control should concentrate their efforts on monetary policy. There is perhaps nothing more disheartening than the fact that there are still so many intelligent and informed people who in most other respects will defend freedom and yet are induced by the immediate benefits of an expansionist policy to support what, in the long run, must destroy the foundations of a free society.

The UN Continues Pushing to Take Away Your Second Amendment Rights

We can all breathe a sigh of relief that the Obama administration was forced to pull out of signing the Arms Trade Treaty in July.  Following its actions, China and Russia also balked.
So congratulations, once again, are in order — as your hard work paid off handsomely.  Over 50 US Senators ultimately signed a letter opposing this abomination!
But don’t think the UN has pulled back from its unremitting efforts to destroy your constitutional rights.
Earlier this month, the UN’s “Review Conference on Illicit Small Arms Trade” adopted an anti-gun “consensus outcome document” with the acquiescence of the Obama administration.
Among other things, the document, in the UN’s own words, “underscored efforts in marking, record-keeping and cooperation in tracing small arms ….”  We all understand that this verbiage is code for national gun registration.
And in the words of the UN, “Member States agreed to strengthen national measures on marking ….”  Now “marking” can mean many things.  But we know from records of UN discussions, that one of the things it means is “microstamping.”
This procedure to imprint a unique identifier on fired cartridges, may or may not be safely scientifically achievable.  And at any rate, it is very costly.
Thus without admitting it, microstamping requirements could effectively put an end to your Second Amendment rights.
Now, the “consensus outcome document” will certainly not have the punch of a Senate-ratified treaty.  Nevertheless, we cannot assume it will not be a threat — or that the President won’t try to implement certain parts of it through Executive Order.  Of course, Barack Obama could do an illegal Executive Order or illegal regulation with or without UN encouragement, and that is something we might be facing during a second presidential term, if he is re-elected.

Wake up America! Stolen from that Little Old Texan, Texas Fred

I received this in an email and thought it too good to just *forward*, so I am making it a post, that way it’s on the ‘net, my name is forever attached to it and the Obama regime knows it was ME that blasted them once again!

I have never heard this said as simply or as well; Class warfare at its best.

The folks who are getting the free stuff don’t like the folks who are paying for the free stuff, because the folks who are paying for the free stuff can no longer afford to pay for both the free stuff and their own stuff. And, the folks who are paying for the free stuff want the free stuff to stop.

And the folks who are getting the free stuff want even more free stuff on top of the free stuff they are already getting!

Now … the people who are forcing the people who pay for the free stuff have told the people who are RECEIVING the free stuff that the people who are PAYING for the free stuff are being mean, prejudiced, and racist. So … the people who are GETTING the free stuff have been convinced they need to hate the people who are paying for the free stuff by the people who are forcing some people to pay for their free stuff and giving them the free stuff in the first place.

We have let the free stuff giving go on for so long that there are now more people getting free stuff than paying for the free stuff.

Now understand this; all great democracies have committed financial suicide somewhere between 200 and 250 years after being founded. The reason being; the voters figured out they could vote themselves money from the treasury by electing people who promised to give them money from the treasury in exchange for electing them.

The United States officially became a Republic in 1776, 236 years ago. The number of people now getting free stuff outnumbers the people paying for the free stuff. We have one chance to change that in 2012. Failure to change that spells the end of the United States as we know it.

“Blame Bush” With “Blame Romney” anything but blame where blame is due!

Has Mitt Romney sewed up the 2012 election and begun issuing policy pronouncements via the Office of the President-Elect?  That’s what you’d think to hear mainstream news commentators tell it.

Witness the media uproar over Romney’s absolutely true, courageously firm observation that President Obama’s State Department is more interested in sparing the feelings of Muslim terrorists than standing up for American values.

Rather than evaluating and refuting his charges; rather than critically reexamining Obama’s approach; rather than considering the repercussions of the President’s conciliatory stance toward our enemies; liberals… blamed the crisis on someone who doesn’t even work for the government.

Rachel Maddow cried that we were in the middle of a tense, hair-trigger confrontation requiring suave diplomatic prowess, and that Romney may just have sent rioting protestors over the top.

Newsflash, MSNBC hosts: Rioting protestors were already over the top—literally, in the case of the embassy walls they scaled and the black Al Qaeda victory banners they hoisted after tearing down and burning American flags in Egypt and Libya.

Fanatic Muslim savages don’t need an excuse to wreak havoc against the West.  A few boilerplate conservative statements by an American presidential candidate don’t rouse them from a stance of tranquil tolerance to one of prickly outrage.  They’re already perpetually in a state of prickly outrage.

Rioters didn’t require a shoddy 14-minute YouTube film trailer to cause mayhem on September 11.  They were already sufficiently motivated to murder American ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens and drag his body through the streets.  Even the Obama administration now admits that Stevens’ murder was a terrorist attack, and new evidence suggests that Al Qaeda was behind it.

But by liberals’ calculation, the real policy-driver, the de facto Commander in Chief, the actual mover and shaker who’s screwing up the Middle East, is an unemployed father of five struggling to keep even with Obama in the polls.

Consider the essence of Democrats’ “Blame Bush” strategy, which they initiated at the height of the 2008 presidential campaign season and have continued right up through August’s lousy job numbers.  Remember that their approach did not merely take Bush to task for things he did wrong.  Most conservatives will happily rattle off a laundry list of complaints about Bush, from his expanding government entitlement programs to his failing to win the Iraq War early and decisively enough.

No, “Blame Bush” was the catchall excuse Democrats evolved to protect Obama from unflattering comparisons to the far more experienced Republican candidate Senator John McCain, and from criticism of his handling of the economy and international relations once President.

Obama wasted four years spending the country into oblivion; but when we failed to recover from the recession, Democrats blamed Bush for leaving him an economy much worse than was imaginable by anyone, including liberal economists we were supposed to trust regarding the restorative effect of Obama’s stimulus bill.

Obama spent four years bowing and scraping before our enemies; but when he pledged to sit down and talk with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad without preconditions, and Iran responded by defying the international prohibition on continuing its nuclear weapons program, Democrats blamed Bush for creating a hostile negotiation environment.

If Mitt Romney is elected president, Democrats’ strategy will transition from blaming everything on Bush to blaming it on Romney, as though Obama’s four-year stint in the White House left no trace.

But I don’t know anyone who anticipated that Democrats would be desperate enough to start blaming the unelected Romney for Obama’s failures.

Of course the real culprit behind the foreign policy debacle in Libya and Egypt is not Romney but Obama.  It was Obama’s State Department that failed to adequately secure the breached embassies ahead of 9/11, despite warnings of attacks; failed to deploy Marines to secure the premises; released from Gitmo a detainee involved in the attacks; fell all over themselves to issue apologies for Americans’ trampling on Muslim sensibilities; harassed the director of the trailer for making the video, Pastor Terry Jones for promoting it, and Google and YouTube for hosting it; and spent four years denying that America stands for any particular virtues that are superior to those of any other country.

(Does Obama really think having a half-Indonesian sister so endears him to the Muslim world that his State Department doesn’t need to raise the security level a notch at Middle Eastern embassies every time 9/11 rolls around?)

Mitt Romney’s Libya statement—like his 47% “gaffe” earlier this week—provided a badly needed kick in the pants to a nation accustomed to four years of Obama.  Romney’s clarification of the situation in Libya and Egypt constituted the proverbial wakeup call: “The first step in realizing our country is weak under Obama is realizing we have a problem.”

But who will Democrats blame Obama’s failures on for the next four years if Romney loses?

Assaulted – Civil Rights Under Fire

Kris Koenig, Emmy® award winning producer and writer, announced today the launch of Dead Patriot Films’ Kickstarter campaign  http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/assaulted/assaulted to raise funds to produce Assaulted: Civil Rights Under Fire, the first in a series of documentaries focused on gun issues in America.

The Second Amendment Foundation and the Calguns Foundation have each contributrd $5,000.00 to get this project off the ground.

When the subject of California gun control laws are discussed, rarely are they associated with the civil rights movement and the quest for equal rights for all. Assaulted will compare the historical aspects of gun control targeting the indigenous tribes of North America and emancipated slaves, through the Jim Crow era to today’s laws that favor elitists and denies the rights guaranteed by the 2nd Amendment to the most vulnerable in our society.

The film will take a critical look at the original goals of the current laws in contrast with crime and murder statistics before and since their implementation; contrast these laws to those of the adjacent states; look at how product safety is used as indirect gun control; and show the ingenuity of gun owners to keep and bear their favorite firearms. Story threads will also look at the myriad of concealed carry permitting across the state to illustrate that not all residents are created equal. Finally, the film will show how California is the front line in the gun rights battle in America.

“I plan to show these issues through the eyes of the California gun owner,” said Koenig, “All too often documentaries regarding gun ownership and 2nd Amendment issues show the extremes of the arguments, polarizing the issues and inflaming viewers’ emotions. What I hope to do is to present a large dose of common sense, facts and logic to the subject matter, just like a science documentary.”

Koenig’s last project, 400 Years of the Telescope, a PBS Science Special, received five primetime national broadcasts by the network, along with international accolades, including a Best Director award and five Telly Awards. The film was produced to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the telescope and look to the future of astronomy, as new observatories being built will change our picture of the universe.

Answering the question of how a producer of astronomy content can take on a subject like gun control, Koenig said, “Science is a presentation of arguments, theories and facts to build the various models explaining the universe. I plan to present the models of gun control against the reality of life in America where the 2nd Amendment is alive and supported by a vast majority of Americans.”

“The wolf has reported from the chicken coop that there’s nobody here but us chickens.”

The long-awaited Inspector General‘s report on the Fast and Furious scandal in out, and most of the news media are breathlessly clearing Attorney General of any wrongdoing.

But as GOA’s Larry Pratt summarized in one interview: “The wolf has reported from the chicken coop that there’s nobody here but us chickens.”  (Click here to see the interview in its entirety.)

The obviously self-serving, 471-page report:

* Takes the words of the people it is supposed to be objectively investigating at face value

* Presents evidence that shows Holder should have known about Fast and Furious much earlier than he claims — then ignores that evidence
* Allows the White House to walk away scot-free from the investigation without providing ANY documents which might tie the Oval Office to the scandal
* Ignores demonstrable, gross incompetence of high-level Justice Department employees

The hope of the Obama administration, of course, is that this issue will now be put to rest and not be an issue in the election.  And conveniently, the report came out just one day before Congress recessed until after the November elections, so we won’t be hearing much from Congress over the next six weeks.

But GOA agrees with the words of Edmund Burke that “all that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.”  So we will not allow this issue to be swept under the rug.

Gun Owners has filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District for D.C., and we will continue to press that suit to compel the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to produce thousands of pages of documents it is still withholding (the Inspector General report notwithstanding).

GOA will continue to conduct interviews and participate in “townhall” meetings across the country to make sure voters are aware that the Fast and Furious scandal is far from settled and that those responsible for knowingly allowing firearms to get into the hands of some of the most dangerous criminals in the world must be brought to justice.

The liberal nut cases…

Gun Owners of America and its foundation are in the middle of a seminal fight in the courts -– a fight which could determine whether the federal courts will be of any use in protecting our Second Amendment rights for the foreseeable future.
That fight will determine whether the Founders -– or the liberal nut cases who govern the People’s Republic of Maryland -– will dictate the scope of the Second Amendment.
First, a little background.
As you remember, the Supreme Court’s Heller and McDonald cases recognized that the Second Amendment was an individual right -– and that it was a right that applied to the states.
Unfortunately, on page 54 of the Heller decision, the majority opinion suggested that it might uphold some unconstitutional anti-gun laws, in spite of the Second Amendment’s absolute ban on such restrictions.
In effect, the court invited federal courts to apply a “balancing test” to the Second Amendment.  And, since that time, the federal courts have upheld a large portion of the unconstitutional gun bans challenged by gun owners.
This is where the Maryland case comes in.
The ironically dubbed “Free State” is, in fact, one of the least free jurisdictions in the country.
On guns, you have to have a permit to carry one.  That permit can be denied if you don’t show a “good and substantial purpose.”  And whether you have a “good and substantial purpose” is a subjective decision that can be determined in virtually any way Maryland’s anti-gun fruitcakes choose to interpret it.
How does Maryland reconcile that with the Second Amendment?
The answer is that it doesn’t.  Its 46-page brief quotes the Second Amendment at the outset and spends the remaining 45 pages talking about something else.
Says Maryland, the Second Amendment is essentially identical to the 1689 English Bill of Rights.
Wrong!  The Second Amendment codifies a God-given right which comes from -– well, ah -– God.
If, as Maryland contends, our Second Amendment rights are no broader than English rights, this means government can seize all of our guns and outlaw gun ownership across the board.
Says Maryland, “a majority of nineteenth-century courts had upheld the constitutionality of complete prohibitions on the carry of concealed weapons.”
If Maryland prevails on this proposition, the Heller case is worthless –- and your God-given right to defend yourself, your family, and your friends is essentially meaningless.
This is why the Gun Owners Foundation has filed a brief (pdf) on your behalf on appeal before the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond.
But lawyers are not cheap, and the legal process is not invoked without a substantial expenditure of resources.
This is why we need your help to support our important work in this case.
Please give as generously as you can.  And know that we have selected this case because it represents an extreme example of anti-gun repression –- one that should be easy for the courts to strike down.
Know that what happens in this case before the Fourth Circuit and, if necessary, before the Supreme Court, could determine whether the Heller decision has any meaning -– or is just a useless pile of platitudes.
