Senators John Cornyn (R-TX) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) are showing signs they have the President’s back.

January 26, 2014

A little over a week ago, President Barack Obama proposed even more Executive Actions on gun control.

Now, Senators John Cornyn (R-TX) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) are showing signs they have the President’s back
.

That’s because they’re pushing a brand new anti-gun bill.

It’s the “Graham-Cornyn Seek Help, Lose Your Guns Act.”

Insiders warn their new bill could be aimed at expanding the National Instant Criminal Background Check (NICS) system to include hundreds of thousands — or millions — of law-abiding citizens under the ruse of “mental health.”

Make no mistake . . .

. . . The President’s agenda has nothing to do with mental health, or keeping firearms out of the hands of criminals.

It has everything to do with labeling YOU mentally ill in order to strip you of your right to keep and bear arms without due process.

The goal is simple: seek treatment and lose your gun rights.

So why do Senators Cornyn and Graham have Obama’s Back?

It’s simple.  Let me explain . . .

Senators Cornyn and Graham are feeling the heat from the radical anti-gun left.

Instead of standing firm for your Second Amendment rights, they’re desperate to appear “sensible” and “open to compromise” even if it means putting you and I at risk.

But they’re really playing right into the President’s hands.

Last year, the duo sponsored S.480 — the so-called “NICS Reporting Improvement Act.”

Under that Graham-Cornyn bill, virtually any “board, commission, or other adjudicative body” would have the ability to strip you of your gun rights.

One of these so-called “authorities” could order an otherwise law-abiding individual to see a mental health counselor and strip them their gun rights for good.

Let me put it another way:

If your condition is “severe” enough that an hour of outpatient treatment a week is all you need — you could become a “prohibited person” at the whim of some anti-gun bureaucrat.

That’s not due process!

The Graham-Cornyn bill will further erode your Second Amendment rights and strip the due process rights of law-abiding Americans.

Click here to Stop the Cornyn-Graham Seek Help, Lose Your Gun Act

This isn’t about being violent or unstable; this is about losing your rights because of something as simple as a stress-induced visit to a therapist.

According to the National Institute of Health, nearly half of all Americans will suffer from a “mental health” issue at some point in their life.

And the simple fact is the gun-grabbers know this.

The Obama Administration has been pushing for these gun control expansions in the name of “mental health” for some time.

It’s clear they will do anything to take guns out of the hands of law-abiding Americans.

Even if it means harming the rights of thousands — or  millions — of law-abiding, vulnerable and non-violent individuals.

Over 175,000 veterans have already lost their gun rights, simply by seeking treatment.

But that’s not the worst part.

They aren’t even required to give you a trial.

That’s because “adjudication” no longer means “by a court of law.”

It now includes “other lawful authorities,” which could include ANY mental health professional in connection with a government program.

Are Senators Cornyn and Graham trying to strip away the gun rights of millions of Americans?

I hope not.

But that’s exactly what insiders are warning that Senators Cornyn and Graham could be doing with their latest proposal.

That’s why I need you to contact Senators Cornyn and Graham IMMEDIATELY.

Tell them not to endanger the gun rights of millions of Americans.

Insist they stop pushing the “Graham-Cornyn Seek Help, Lose Your Guns Act.”

*** You can reach Senator Cornyn at (202) 224-2934.

*** And Senator Graham at (202) 224-5972.

Please let the Senators know how important this issue is and that you will be counting on them to stand up for gun owners.

There’s no time to waste.  Please act now.

NAGR: What the NRA should be! No compromise with your rights, ever!

November 12, 2013

While there are many Second Amendment support groups the most well known, and reviled by those that suffer from the mental illness hoplophobia really does very little for the day to day supporter of the Bill of Rights. That being the National Rifle Association. Please don’t get me wrong about the NRA. They are possibly the very first safety organization of any type in history, and it is doubtless that the firearm safety programs started by them have saved countless lives, as well as reduced severe injuries all around the world, and have served the vital function of providing a working template for virtually all safety programs.

Feared by many politicians, the NRA has clout. However, when it comes to politics? The NRA is a true failure. They refuse to fight the tough fights. Only getting into those in which the probability of success is high. Indeed, the refusal to actually get involved in the dirty work led to the formation of Gun Owners of America as well as others. Wyoming Gun Owners, Rocky Mountain Gun Owners and others like them get into the trenches and fight. Also, The National Association for Gun Rights has been getting results that have been quite impressive as of late. Please watch the video for more about NAGR, and donate what you can to each of the groups mentioned above.

The epic failure Obama blows his stack on gun control vote

April 17, 2013

In reaction to the U.S. Senate‘s rejection of a gun control bill he had been pushing Congress to pass, Barack Obama blew his stack in his comments about the defeat, pitching a tantrum in front of the families of the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Conn.

Attorney and radio commentator Hugh Hewitt, reacting to Obama’s explosive tone, stated that the president had acted in a manner that is unbecoming to the office of president and added to the pain and heartache of those who are suffering in the wake of the Newtown shooting.

Vowing that he would continue to do all that is necessary to pass more gun control legislation, Obama castigated Senate Republicans and a few Democrats who voted with them in defeating the Toomey-Manchin compromise measure that would have vastly expanded background checks on gun purchases.

But Obama reserved his harshest words for the National Rifle Association (NRA) that had vigorously opposed the new gun control measure, accusing the organization of lying to the public:

The gun lobby and its allies willfully lied about the bill. It came down to politics. They (the NRA) claimed that it would create some sort of big-brother gun registry, even though it did the opposite. This pattern of spreading untruths … served a purpose. A minority in the U.S. Senate decided it wasn’t worth it. They blocked common-sense gun reforms, even while these families looked on from the Senate gallery.

Hewitt went further to say that despite Obama’s threats, Americans by and large oppose any more gun control and place the issue near the bottom of the list of issues voters view as important.

If anything, said Hewitt, voters in Colorado, for example, will probably turn out dozens of Democrats from the state legislature which engaged in serious overreach in approving draconian gun control laws over the objections of the voters in the state. Hewitt stated that Colorado may even go as far as to have recall elections for many of the Democrats who voted in favor of the gun control measures.

NAGR’s 2012 Executive Summary: New Threats

January 31, 2012

Here is NAGR’s 2012 Executive Summary:

*** Hillary’s UN Gun Ban AND the Obama administration’s Election-Year gun control push:

Hillary Clinton and the United Nations are putting the finishing touches on their “Small Arms Treaty” this summer, and President Obama is ready to push a new “Assault Weapons Ban,” a Magazine Ban and Bloomberg’s “Catch All Gun Control Scheme” in order to win left-wing support.

*** Dozens of CRUCIAL U.S. House and Senate races, with our gun rights hanging in the balance:

Holding the politicians accountable has NEVER been more important.  Not only must we defend true gun rights heroes like Congressman Paul Broun through our Political Action Committee, we also have the opportunity to hold accountable long-standing anti-gun Republicans like Senators Dick Lugar and Orrin Hatch.

*** Leading the fight for REAL Right-to-Carry in states all across the nation:

After passing Constitutional Carry in Wyoming in 2011, NAGR has a tremendous opportunity to move forward with this vital legislation in up to a dozen more states.  If we are successful in raising the resources, this could result in a rout of the gun-grabbers unlike anything seen in decades.

These threats and opportunities are why I’m hoping you will stand strong with your support for the National Association for Gun Rights and our battles ahead.

These threats and opportunities are why I’m hoping you will stand strong with your support for the National Association for Gun Rights and our battles ahead.

Your generous support will help pay for direct mail and online alerts to help turn up the heat on politicians.

And you’ll be paying for our hard-hitting radio, newspaper, internet and TV ad campaigns it will take to make each one of these efforts a resounding success, as well.

Newts, political witchery and such…

November 22, 2011

From an email I received, and it is on target, no adjustments needed!

I know I don’t have to tell you, but politicians often say one thing but do the complete opposite — especially if they think no one is looking.

Newt Gingrich is the poster child for these sort of “flexible” principles.

I’ve been around the block a few times (I’m about to start my 20th year as a gun rights lobbyist) and dealt with literally thousands of candidates and politicians, but no Republican politician has managed to support and vote for anti-gun legislation and still proclaim that he is “pro-gun” more effectively than Newt Gingrich.

Don’t be fooled by his rise in the polls; Newt Gingrich has a long history of supporting gun control …

… and he has blatantly refused to return his National Association for Gun Rights Presidential Survey.

With more than three decades as a public figure, Newt is the quintessential political chameleon, shifting his views to reflect whatever is popular with the Washington, D.C. chattering class.

Make no mistake, while Newt may talk a solid conservative game, his record is that of a typical Inside-the-Beltway politician who will cut ANY compromise or make ANY deal with anyone for his own political or personal gain.

While Newt used the institutional gun lobby as a mouthpiece to convince millions of gun owners nationwide that “as long as he is Speaker, no gun-control legislation is going to move in committee or on the House floor,” he was working behind the scenes to pass gun control.

In 1996, Newt Gingrich turned his back on guns and voted for the anti-gun Brady Campaign’s Lautenberg Gun Ban, which strips the Second Amendment rights of citizens involved in misdemeanor domestic violence charges or temporary protection orders –- in some cases for actions as minor as spanking a child or grabbing a spouse’s wrist.(1)

Gingrich even called the anti-gun measure “reasonable,” and predicted that it would sail through his Republican-controlled House of Representatives with little trouble.(2)

The Lautenberg Gun Ban is one of the Congressional Republicans’ worst betrayals of gun owners, and those complicit in its passage deserve nothing but contempt from gun owners.

This gun control measure ranks right up there with the Brady Registration Act as the most aggressive gun control in America, denying hundreds of thousands of would-be gun owners the right to self defense.

Gingrich also stood shoulder to shoulder with Nancy Pelosi to pass the “Criminal Safezones Act” which prevents armed citizens from defending themselves in certain arbitrary locations. You and I both know that Criminal Safezones don’t protect law-abiding citizens, but actually protect the criminals who ignore them.(3)

As you can see, Newt Gingrich is no friend of gun owners, or small government conservatives. He simply can’t be trusted, and his record reflects his contempt not only for the truth, but his own integrity and the integrity of the very people he’s asking to vote for him to be the most powerful man in the modern world.

This is the same man who railed against the Obama bailouts of Fannie and Freddie Mac while receiving more than $1.5 million from Fannie Mae as a “consultant”(4) while his firm also raised $37 million to pass healthcare insurance mandates.(5)

He’s also the same man who sat next to Nancy Pelosi and insisted global warming was a man-made problem in need of a government-mandated solution. Now that he’s running for the Republican nomination, he doesn’t believe in global warming and calls the TV ad he did with Pelosi “inexplicable.” Please click here to watch the video.(6)

I’m concerned, though, that Newt’s snake-oil act is catching on.

It’s time for gun owners and liberty-minded, small government activists to hold Newt’s feet to the fire.

That’s why I need you to call the Gingrich campaign headquarters right now at (678) 973-2306. Demand that Newt Gingrich apologize for his past support of gun control, and make a dramatic turnaround statement of support to repeal the gun controls he’s supported.

Tell his campaign that you expect Newt to not only apologize for his past support of anti-gun measures but also to reveal where he stands on international gun grabs like the UN “Small Arms Treaty” and domestic anti-gun schemes like the banning of .50 caliber rifles.

Demand he quit stonewalling gun owners and return his National Association for Gun Rights Presidential Survey — at once. You and I both know that election season, when they’re begging for the votes of gun owners, is one of the best times to lobby candidates and politicians.

With Republican presidential primaries in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina mere weeks away, it’s vital that gun owners know where the Republican candidates for President stand on important Second Amendment issues.

Newt’s record is as crooked as a dog’s hind leg. With a horrible voting record on Second Amendment issues, gun owners just don’t know which side Newt’s on.

Please call the Gingrich campaign headquarters right now at (678) 973-2306. Demand that Newt Gingrich apologize for his past support of gun control.

P.S. Newt Gingrich’s anti-gun record is too important — and dangerous — to ignore. That’s why I felt compelled to inform you.

His support for numerous gun controls is in direct contradiction to his current campaign statements.

Call the Gingrich campaign headquarters right now at (678) 973-2306. Demand that Newt Gingrich apologize for his past support of gun control.

The National Association for Gun Rights is working day and night to keep gun owners like you up-to-date on the presidential candidates’ records — please consider contributing to the effort by chipping in $15 or $20.

A Happy New Year? Well on some fronts it is! Blackwater case over turned, but there are other troubling things out there

January 1, 2010

Well, the good news is that the folks from Blackwater had their case overturned, and the Iraqi’s are not pleased… We discuss this situation over at Texas Freds.

But, here at home the fight never ends either.

A few months ago, the National Association for Gun Rights first broke this incredible tale out of Shreveport, Louisiana.

At the time, no other gun rights organization had touched the story.  But when we tracked down the victim for an interview, we couldn’t believe what we heard, and we immediately sent out a nationwide alert.

The story went viral overnight.

If this tale of government abuse moves you, send it to a friend or family member to get the word out.

Welcome to Shreveport:  Your rights are now suspended.

According to Cedric Glover, mayor of Shreveport, Louisiana, his cops “have a power that [. . .] the President of these Unites States does not have”:   His cops can take away your rights.

And would you like to guess which rights he has in mind?

Just ask Shreveport resident Robert Baillio, who got pulled over for having two pro-gun bumper stickers on the back of his truck — and had his gun confiscated.

While the officer who pulled him over says Baillio failed to use his turn signal, the only questions he had for Baillio concerned guns:   Whether he had a gun, where the gun was, and if he was a member of a pro-gun organization.

No requests for a driver’s licence, proof of insurance, or vehicle registration — and no discussion of a turn signal.

Accordingly, Baillio told the officer the truth, which led the police officer to search his car without permission and confiscate his gun.

However, not only does Louisiana law allow residents to drive with loaded weapons in their vehicles, but Mr. Baillio possessed a concealed carry license!

What does such behavior demonstrate, other than transparent political profiling — going so far as to use the infamous Department of Homeland Security report on “Americans of a rightwing persuasion” as a how-to guidebook, no less?

Mr. Baillio made no secret of his political affiliations: An American flag centers a wide flourish of pro-freedom stickers and decals on his back windshield.

In fact, when Baillio asked the officer if everyone he pulls over gets the same treatment, the officer said no and pointed to the back of his truck.

Baillio phoned Mayor Glover to complain about this “suspension of rights” only to find that his city’s morbidly obese “commander in chief” was elated at the story:  According to Glover, Baillio got “served well, protected well, and even got a consideration that maybe [he] should not have gotten.”

Thankfully, Mr. Baillio recorded a good bit of that phone call.  You can watch a video with the transcriptions here.  I’ve reproduced a chunk of the call below:

Baillio: (in the context of being asked about the presence of a gun) Well, I answered that question honestly, and he disarmed me.

Glover: Which would be an appropriate and proper action, sir. The fact that you gave the correct answer — it simply means that you did what it is you were supposed to have done, and that is to give that weapon to the police officer so he could appropriately place it in a place where it would not be a threat to you, to him, or to anyone in the general public.

[. . .]

Glover: My direction to you is that, had you chosen not to properly identify the fact that you had a weapon and directed that officer to where that weapon was located; had you been taken from the vehicle, and the officer, in the interest of his safety, chose to secure you in a safe position, and then looked, found, and determined that you did, in fact, have a weapon…then, sir, you would have faced additional, [inaudible], and more severe criminal sanctions.

Baillio: So what you’re saying is: I give up all my rights to keep and bear arms if I’m stopped by the police: Is that correct?

Glover: Sir, you have no right, when you have been pulled over by a police officer for a potential criminal offense [which would be what?! – DB] to stand there with your weapon at your side in your hand [Baillio’s weapon was nowhere near his side or his hand, and Glover knew that. – DB] because of your second amendment rights, sir. That does not mean at that point your second amendment right has been taken away; it means at that particular point in time, it has been suspended.

Will Grigg from ProLibertate, an excellent freedom blog, has this to say:

According to Glover, a police officer may properly disarm any civilian at any time, and the civilian’s duty is to surrender his gun — willingly, readily, cheerfully, without cavil or question.

From Glover’s perspective, it is only when firearms are in the hands of people other than the state’s uniformed enforcers/oppressors that they constitute a threat, not only to the public and those in charge of exercising official violence but also to the private gun owner himself.

NAGR spoke with Mr. Baillio, and he told us that he’s in the process of securing the official procedures and codes for firearm handling and private property confiscation for the Shreveport police department.

So far, the city has been half-heartedly cooperating with him.

“I felt sick,” Baillio told NAGR. “My uncles didn’t die for this country so I could surrender my rights like a wimp.  I felt terrible.  I was just thinking of all that my family has done for freedom in this nation — including dying — and here they are disarming me at a traffic stop.”

What to do?

  1. Read Luke’s commentary here, and participate in the discussion by leaving a comment.
  2. Send this around. This kind of behavior cannot go unchecked.
  3. Call Mayor Glover’s office to complain: (318) 673-5050.

I’ll leave you with one last consideration.  As a licensed firearms instructor in charge of a hundred different students every month, I’m often asked if citizens should voluntarily inform police officers of the presence of a firearm during a routine traffic stop.

While different states have different laws, my answer for Colorado citizens is an emphatic “No”: Colorado law doesn’t require you to volunteer that kind of information, and this case in Louisiana proves why, if at all possible, you should never invite trouble by doing so.
