Dear Patrick Sperry,

Here is something you will not see every day.

A police chief shoots himself when the drawstring of his jacket lodged in the trigger area of his Glock pistol.

Watch this news video, complete with surveillance video of the actual incident and then see my comments that follow…

Comments:

Even though the drawstring was the culprit in the negligent discharge of the police chief’s weapon, he could use some improvement in his gun handling techniques. Specifically, he should treat all guns as if they are loaded and never let the muzzle cover anything he is not willing to destroy… that includes his hand and those around him. Watch the surveillance video again and you will see what I mean.

As we teach at Front Sight, train to present your weapon quickly, but take your time to holster the weapon, making sure your shirt and jacket are clear of your holster.

Good story by the news agency and good lesson for all to learn.

Good of the police chief to want others to know of his injury, but quite surprising and a bit disconcerting that he is seen in this video covered his hand with the muzzle of the gun he was handling, after previously shooting himself in the hand in 1999 when handling a gun he thought was unloaded.

http://www.ignatius-piazza-front-sight.com/2014/03/18/front-sight-blog-video-jacket-drawstrings-causing-glocks-fire/#vid

If that does not work go here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=o3UPK53GrI8

So let’s review THE FOUR UNIVERSAL SAFETY RULES…

Treat all guns as if they are loaded.

Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.

Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target.

Be sure of your target and what is beyond your target.

Dana Loesch confronts ABC anchors on anti-gun hit piece!

February 2, 2014
February 1, 2014

“I mean if we’re going to be afraid of things, let’s be afraid of that which actually exists in reality, not some pistol boogeyman born of a gun phobia.”

These were the words of conservative radio commentator and Fox and Blaze TV contributor Dana Loesch Friday as she took on the blatantly anti-gun anchors of ABC News.

ABC News aired a special report Friday evening called “Young Guns,” which examined the issue of guns in America within the context of children who are injured or killed each year by persons with firearms. ABC anchors Diane Sawyer and David Muir presented a slanted report as is often the case with the mainstream media.

Common sense safety measures are always important when handling a gun. Parents are sometimes lax in following these common sense guidelines.

But is the problem as widespread as the ABC News piece claimed?

Statistics show otherwise. Among all of the injuries and murders involving individuals with guns only a very small percentage are attributable to the carelessness of parents. And among that small number is even a smaller number of children who are injured or killed by parents who failed to follow common sense safety guidelines.

This fact led to Loesch’s words, quoted above, pointing to the fact that ABC News erected a straw boogeyman on which it could then blame the deaths of children. ABC further repeated the false meme that kids being killed by those who use firearms is reaching epidemic proportions.

A video of Loesch’s response to the ABC News anti-gun hit piece can be found at the top of the page.

Once again, a mere cursory consideration of the statistical facts disprove the myth that “gun violence” against children is on the rise. Actually, deaths that result from the use of firearms is way down, across the board, and have been in decline for the past 20 years.

The most interesting statistic of all, however, is that child mortality rates stemming from the use of firearms is anything but reaching epidemic proportions. Here again, the statistics show otherwise. The number of children who die in gun related incidents is way down and has been on the decline for two decades.

But ABC tipped its hand not only by making false claims in the segment but by its inclusion of the government-initiated propaganda, urging its viewers to “snoop on their neighbors and ask whether or not they have guns.”

That statement alone, along with the false assumptions that are not corroborated by factual statistics, exposes the real reason ABC ran the piece. The objective was not to examine the issue objectively apart from any hidden agenda but to propagate the big lie that guns are evil, that if you are a gun owner with children you will probably suffer from the death of a child eventually, and thus, guns must be restricted and even banned altogether.

This means, simply, that the special report “Young Guns” was a propaganda piece courtesy of the mainstream media that serves to advance the agenda of the collectivists who presently run the U.S. government.

The Left’s proudest moments. But it wasn’t…

January 1, 2014

This year might have marked the high point for the Left in Colorado. After a decade of well-funded, well-coordinated advances, the Left got most of what they wanted. With renewal energy mandates on rural electrics, attacks on fracking, legalizing voter mischief, and anti-gun laws, 2013 should have been the Left’s proudest moment. But it wasn’t.Thanks in great part to the multi-year efforts of the Independence Institute, anti-guns bills–like a ban on concealed-carry on campus–failed. The Left‘s massive “for the children” educational tax increase, Amendment 66, went down in humiliating defeat. Education reformers were re-elected in Douglas County, and reformers were swept into office in Jefferson County and Loveland school district. And for the first time in state history, State Senators were recalled. The message of 2013 was loud and clear – real Coloradans, not urban elitists funded by Michael Bloomberg, control the destiny of this freedom-loving state. Could this be the turning point in Colorado history? Well, that largely depends on you. Those who have invested in Independence over the years made these 2013 victories and so many others possible. We thank them all. I want to be thanking you in coming years for even greater victories that YOU made possible by investing TODAY! Please invest in the Independence Institute right now by making a tax-deductible contribution HERE.And remember, every time you give to Independence, a Leftist dies a little inside. Happy New Year!

EPIC FAIL OBAMA; Yet another failure in Econ 101

December 4, 2013

He loves backing an 18-wheeler into a tight spot. He has been patiently training new drivers for more than eight years.

Lately, though, Mr. Hernandez‘s patience has been worn thin by a confusing tangle of rules, efficiency directives, and electronic devices that cap his speed, log his every move, and practically try to autopilot his truck.

Magnifying the stress are more federal rule changes that took effect in July and are now roiling the industry.

Under the revised rule, the average workweek has been shortened to 70 hours from 82. They must take one 30-minute break during the first eight hours of driving. And the required 34-hour break between workweeks now must extend over two nights, including the hours between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m.

Those changes are proving more disruptive because they are added on to existing requirements that limit drivers to driving 11 hours a day and require them to rest a consecutive 10 hours.

The changes are aimed at reducing chronic fatigue and related crashes, according to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, the Department of Transportation agency responsible for highway safety. Fatalities in large truck crashes declined 26% from 5,111 to 3,757 in the decade ending in 2011, according to the FMCSA, but it considers that number still unacceptably high.

“This agency is not just mandated but driven to improve the operating environment of trucks,” said Anne Ferro, the agency’s administrator, in an interview.

Much to be Thankful for This Thanksgiving

November 27, 2013

“We may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks….” — President George Washington, October 3, 1789

This year, gun owners have been in the fight of our lives.

The President of the United States used all his power and ability in a fierce attempt to ram gun control down the throats of the American people.

The media relentlessly supported his cause, repeatedly telling Americans that the Sandy Hook shooting last December had changed everything … that the “tide had turned” … and that Americans were now in favor of more gun control.

At points during the battle, many gun owners may have felt like their forefathers of old who suffered at Valley Forge — disheartened, ill-equipped and facing a much larger enemy.

But, as is often the case, the victory does not go to the loudest.  And to date, the President has been frustrated beyond belief in his attempts to eviscerate the Second Amendment.

As recently as Sunday, MSNBC weepingly pronounced the death of gun control for the 113th Congress.

Your support has made a tremendous difference in this fight this year!

In 1789, President George Washington recognized from whence their Ultimate Help had come in defeating the British, in establishing a Constitution, and realizing the tremendous liberty they were then enjoying.

We should do no less this Thanksgiving, as we consider the monumental opposition that we have overcome in defending the Second Amendment.

Not only that, we want to thank you for all your hard work.

And thank you for all your support, which has kept GOA on the front lines!

As members of GOA’s grassroots network, you have fought alongside us every step of the way.  And the results have been astounding.

Consider what the anti-gun Left had to say about GOA’s involvement this year:

* “Democrats blame ‘Gun Owners of America’ for gun control setback” — TPM, April 8, 2013.

* “[GOA] pushes the NRA [to the right] and makes it hard for the NRA to be reasonable.” — Senator Harry Reid, April 6, 2013

* “Gun Owners of America was the most active outside group in early efforts to block all gun control efforts.” — The Examiner, April 28, 2013

* “Upstart group [GOA] pushes harder than the NRA” — New York Times, April 3, 2013.

Your support has ticked off the media this year!

It was the New York Times that lamented how GOA was “successful [in] freezing senators, particularly Republicans” from supporting gun controls like expanded background checks.

Bottom line:  Gun owners were able to defeat every word of gun control that came down the pike — and it was thanks to gun owners like you who send us to Washington to lobby on your behalf.

Thank you for helping support us on the front lines this year!

Our successful fight to kill the Feinstein semi-auto ban … to prevent limits on magazine capacity … to defeat attempts at banning private sales of firearms … were all just the tip of the iceberg.

And while our victories from earlier this year were welcome news, we must recognize the battle is not over.

Senator Harry Reid wants to pack the courts with liberal judges who will gut the Second Amendment and uphold ObamaCare — to the detriment of gun owners nationwide.

And the President is just one well-publicized shooting away from re-launching his failed gun control agenda.

Next month, you can be sure that the media will try to jumpstart the gun control issue as it memorializes the tragic Sandy Hook shooting.

But GOA will not be silent.  You can find us on the webon Facebook … and on InstaGram.

We will be rallying the troops to keep the heat on Congress.  And we hope that, as Christmas approaches, you will consider gifting a GOA membership to your family and friends, so that we will increase our voice in Washington.

We need you — and them — in the fight!

Finally, as promised in an earlier alert, here are a couple of interviews that GOA has done recently — interviews we think you’ll enjoy:

From all of us here at Gun Owners of America:  Have a blessed Thanksgiving this Thursday!

Chief Kozak… We sir, are not the ones that are stuck on stupid!

November 2, 2013

Chief Kozak wants you to believe that despite his years of experience in police work, he was unable to “connect the dots” that the ADL is an east coast anti-gun lobbying group.  Ah huh…

Of course Kozak started running for cover with his first public statement — that our alert about his scheduled ADL training was “bogus”.

His next move was criminal in nature. Kozak deleted all evidence from the Cheyenne PD webpage listing the actual ADL event – See a screen-shot of the web-page here. You can also see the event flyer that was linked on the deleted page here.

But after getting even more of your phone calls Chief Kozak attempted to back peddle again, now claiming that even though this training is led by the ADL, it’s about “hate crimes” and it had nothing to do with gun control.

By now it was certain that Kozak was going to leverage his position as Chief of police to carry on this event by this known anti-gun organization the ADL, even though as he said himself, “he was getting a ton of calls.”

As we already know, the “hate crime agenda” is the progressive lie of the century.

Just look at what the ADL said about the Zimmerman verdict in Florida:

“This case raises serious questions about the wisdom of stand-your-ground laws and the easy access to concealed weapons permits in states like Florida, where more than one million permits have been issued since 1987 when the state’s concealed weapons law went into effect. Had neither been in place, this tragedy may never have occurred.”

In the same statement the ADL then played the ‘race’ card to further denigrate the Jury decision:

“Hopefully, the debate concerning the justice of the verdict in the Zimmerman case will inspire a continued much-needed discussion about the lingering impact of racism in society.”

So according to an official statement from the ADL, if there wasn’t a law to protect citizens from having to retreat from dangerous criminals, and that if Florida had never allowed concealed carry starting in 1987, the Zimmerman/Martin case would have never happened, and that we need to keep up the discussion on racist gun owners in America.

By now the gun-free-utopia model as embedded in the ADL’s hate philosophy is coming across loud and clear
!

The ADL’s  gun control propaganda is so bizarre, that you just can’t make this kind of stuff up…ADL Director Abraham Foxman says that the use of Adolph Hilter as an analogy against gun control is wrong and offensive to Jews.

This radical-progressive lobbying group that the Cheyenne Police Chief Brian Kozak has partnered with, fundamentally believes that anyone who adheres to the premise enshrined in the Second Amendment, that a armed society is the primary safe-guard against Tyranny, is to be suspected as being a criminal.

The ADL has stated that they have held these “Right Wing Extremist” trainings for the FBI, DHS, ICE, FEMA and many other agencies. One has to wonder if the ADL was involved in the FEMA training where America’s Founders where labeled as the nation’s first terrorists. See the FEMA video here.

Chief Kozak also wants you to believe that his testimony during the last legislative session where he helped to squash was somehow in his job description. HB-103 was legislation that’s sole purpose was to protect the rights of the citizens to keep and bear arms from the over reach of city officials.

I was standing there with — 50 plus pro-gun advocates – while witnessing Chief Kozak acting as the gun-control lobby to the state legislature
.

The good news…is that many “Rank and File” police officers responded positively to our presence and to our knowledge of the ADL’s liberal-progressive agenda. These same officers had no idea that the ADL was in support of Obama and his policies.

WyGO Director Anthony Bouchard and WyGO/JPFO member Howard Last greeting police officer with a pro-gun message at the “Right Wing Extremist” police training event in Cheyenne

A Cheyenne WyGO member who is also a JPFO member lended a hand passing out JPFO pro-gun literature.

In case you didn’t catch this, the ADL is a “progressive” Jewish anti-gun organization — so it was fitting to distribute literature from the renowned pro-gun Jewish organization the JPFO – Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership. Much thanks to JPFO for providing the materials on such short notice.

Kozak should have a look at this JPFO video called — “No Guns for Jews”, as it exposes the danger to a disarmed populous in the face of a Tyrant and Psychopath like Adolph Hilter.

While I believe Chief Kozak may never see the light, there is always hope that one day he may take the oath he swore to defend the Constitution seriously.

But knowing that this isn’t very likely, WyGO will be watching Chief Kozak very closely.

To Liberty,

Anthony Bouchard

MAYBE CHICAGO SHOULD BAN GANGS, NOT GUNS. What a concept!

September 22, 2013

BELLEVUE, WA – A call for banning so-called “assault weapons” in the wake of Thursday night’s shooting in a Chicago park, believed to be part of an ongoing war between two rival gangs, shows the Windy City needs to concentrate on banning gangs, not guns, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today.

Police Supt. Garry McCarthy was quoted by Chicago reporters insisting that the shooting, which seriously wounded a 3-year-old boy, is ample proof that “assault weapons” should be banned.

But when the Chicago Tribune noted that police think the shooting was the latest episode of violence between the Gangster Disciples and the Black P. Stones, CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb said this puts the real problem in perspective.

“When you have street thugs opening fire on groups of people in a gang war,” he observed, “that suggests the city has not advanced much since the days of Al Capone and Bugs Moran. Law-abiding Chicago residents continue to face bureaucratic obstacles, wade through red tape and jump through hoops before they can legally own a gun, while criminals obviously don’t bother with any of that, and just drive around shooting people.

“If Superintendent McCarthy and his boss, Mayor Rahm Emanuel, want to make the streets safer,” he continued, “they should concentrate their efforts on ridding the city of its criminal element rather than push for bans on the kinds of firearms that are owned by millions of law-abiding Americans. Those citizens haven’t hurt anyone, and neither have their guns.

“McCarthy and his department could pull a little ‘Shock and Awe’ operation, one neighborhood at a time, rousting these thugs, arresting those who have outstanding warrants, jailing those found to be illegally carrying guns and sending a message to straighten up or you’re going down,” Gottlieb suggested. “It’s time for Chicago authorities to face the fact that they’re not going to get rid of their crime problem until they start getting rid of their criminals.”

Stand Your Ground, Self Defense, Castle Doctrine, and Get Shot in the Back Laws.

August 7, 2013

The recent tragedy involving Trayvon Williams has sparked a new push by the forces of hoplophobia calling for repeal of what has become known as “Stand Your Ground” Laws. First, let us be clear about this. This was not a stand your ground situation, not at all. It was self defense, pure and simple. It also, despite the best efforts of race hustlers about race. It was about stopping having your head bashed into a sidewalk by an up and coming want to be thug. Could this whole thing have been handled differently? Of course, but that is not the issue being discussed in this post.

What have become known as Stand Your Ground Laws are hated by Trial Attorneys. They can’t turn around and sue people because said people didn’t allow themselves or their families to be shot, stabbed, or clubbed over the head from behind. They fought back against an assailant, these laws fight back against tyranny. They are not preemptive in most cases. There has to be a clear threat. If an attack is under way, then self defense law comes into effect.  Overzealous prosecutors with unbridled ambition have abused those laws countless times. Stand Your Ground Laws were passed in part, to thwart those that have some compelling need to one day have “The Honorable” attached to their names.

Closely related are The Castle Doctrine Laws that have been passed in most locals. While overall violent crime has dropped dramatically these past few decades home invasions have risen steadily. The Castle Doctrine allows you to defend your home without recourse by the forces of evil in the court system. Some states extend that right to your vehicle and campsite as well.

The hoplophobes would have you carried by six. I choose to be judged by twelve…

Who would’a thunk..? 86 percent of the reader support was a proposal to repeal the handgun ban of 1997

June 13, 2013

Be a jolly good fellow, and pass the Beefeater!

When the British daily newspaper The Telegraph asked readers which of six suggested measures they would like to see introduced in the House of Commons, reader response was surprisingly tilted toward one significant proposal, but you probably won’t hear about it from the U.S. media.

Of the six suggestions that included setting a flat tax and placing a term limit on the office of Prime Minister, what drew more than 86 percent of the reader support was a proposal to repeal the handgun ban of 1997. Because this is an unscientific poll, the results will be doomed to a media black hole, but it should send a clear signal to gun prohibitionists in the United States that their habitual use of the United Kingdom as an example of domestic tranquility where guns are concerned just took a direct hit in the credibility department.

At last check, more than 20,400 people had responded to the on-line poll. Support for ending the handgun ban was at 86.4 percent, leaving all other proposals in the political dust.

The next highest vote getter is a suggested measure on the “greening of public spaces” followed by a proposal to ban spitting. The flat tax comes in fourth on the priority scale with a scant 6.4 percent of the votes, and limiting the Prime Minister’s terms could not even muster two percent support among respondents.

Parliament adopted the handgun ban following the tragic 1997 Dunblane massacre of school children; an incident that created an aftermath of emotion not unlike our own Sandy Hook tragedy. Law-abiding British citizens were forced to surrender their handguns as some sort of panacea, but violent crime in the United Kingdom has actually gone up, and self-defense with a firearm has gotten people in considerable trouble.

Americans learned from the British mistake, save for the anti-gun lobbyists who are determined to destroy the Second Amendment. Now it appears the good citizens of that island nation have also realized that banning gun ownership by lawful people does nothing to discourage criminals or crazy people from committing heinous crimes. In this country, we have been able to derail efforts to ban entire classes of firearms, realizing that the unilateral disarmament of good people only makes bad ones bolder.

There could be a strong connection between the Telegraph reader response and the recent brutal murder of a British soldier in broad daylight by a couple of extremist knife-wielding Muslim nut jobs. That incident reminded people that one must be able to fight back, and to defend oneself against a knife attack, it’s best to have a gun. Millions of law-abiding Americans understand that principle and have obtained concealed carry licenses and permits, and soon the residents of Illinois will join fellow citizens in the other 49 states in that regard.

The right of self-defense is the oldest human right, and the British experiment at public disarmament failed as miserably as our own gun bans in Chicago and Washington, D.C. The ten year Clinton ban on so-called “assault weapons” was just as ineffective against crime.

While the poll results for the Telegraph are not scientific, they are a red flag to Parliament that many of their constituents have realized the gun ban was a terrible mistake. Getting their firearms rights restored is not likely to be easy for British citizens, and here on this side of the Atlantic, gun owners are determined to prevent Congress from doing the same thing.

Stolen from the one and only Texas Fred!

TexasFred

A nation founded by geniuses but run by idiots

So, in the spirit of *fair and balanced* here is a list of the biggest IDIOT IDEAS we have from elected officials today. And make NO mistake, there are IDIOTS on BOTH sides of the aisle and in ALL branches of U.S. government!

If you can get arrested for hunting or fishing without a license, but not for being in the country illegally you might live in a country founded by geniuses but run by idiots.

If you have to get your parents permission to go on a field trip or take an aspirin in school, but not to get an abortion¦ you might live in a country founded by geniuses but run by idiots.

If you have to show identification to board an airplane, cash a check, buy liquor, or check out a library book, but not to vote for who runs the government¦ you might live in a country founded by geniuses but run by idiots.

If the government wants to ban stable law-abiding citizens from owning gun magazines with more than ten rounds, but gives 20 F-16 fighter jets to the crazy new leaders in Egypt¦ you might live in a country founded by geniuses but run by idiots.

If, in the largest city, you can buy two 16-ounce sodas, but not a 24-ounce soda because 24-ounces of a sugary drink might make you fat you might live in a country founded by geniuses but run by idiots.

If an 80-year-old woman can be stripped searched by the TSA but a woman in a heap is only subject to having her neck and head searched¦ you might live in a country founded by geniuses but run by idiots.

If your government believes that the best way to eradicate trillions of dollars of debt is to spend trillions more¦ you might live in a country founded by geniuses but run by idiots.

If a seven year old boy can be thrown out of school for saying his teacher is cute, but hosting a sexual exploration or diversity class in grade school is perfectly acceptable you might live in a country founded by geniuses but run by idiots.

If children are forcibly removed from parents who discipline them with spankings while children of addicts are left in filth and drug infested homes you might live in a country founded by geniuses but run by idiots.

If hard work and success are met with higher taxes and more government intrusion, while not working is rewarded with EBT cards, WIC checks, Medicaid, subsidized housing, and free cell phones you might live in a country founded by geniuses but run by idiots.

If the governments plan for getting people back to work is to incentivize NOT working with 99 weeks of Unemployment checks and no requirement to prove they applied but can’t find work you might live in a country founded by geniuses but run by idiots.

If you pay your mortgage faithfully, denying yourself the newest big screen TV while your neighbor buys iPhones, TVs and new cars, and the government forgives his debt when he defaults on his mortgage you might live in a country founded by geniuses but run by idiots.

If being stripped of the ability to defend yourself makes you safer according to the government¦ you might live in a country founded by geniuses but run by idiots.

What a country!!!!

I received this via email, I have NO idea who wrote it or I would offer a huge KUDOS and linked citation. In any case, this is as true as anything we have seen on the ‘net.
