We need to cut off Obama’s escape routes

June 21, 2013
“The reason President Obama’s gun control proposals were killed [is] because hundreds of thousands of Americans began slamming the phone lines, and all of the Senators that were leaning towards supporting it suddenly said, ‘Holy cow, the folks back home don’t like this.’ [There] is nothing more powerful than the conservative grassroots when we are engaged and letting our voice be heard.”
Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), June 19, 2013

Your grassroots efforts are making a world of difference on Capitol Hill.  But we need to keep the pressure on if we are going to defeat the anti-gun amnesty bill.
We’ve asked you repeatedly to focus your attention on the Senate bill; today, we take a brief look at the House.
But first, here’s a brief update on White House efforts to resurrect gun control.
Biden’s plug goes virtually ignored by media

If a tree falls in the forest, does it make a sound?
We’ll never know.  Joe Biden’s Tuesday press conference to renew his push for gun control went almost completely unreported.  The notable exception was an MSNBC report that the NSA scandal made gun control less likely than before.
The liberal media, instead, spent the last couple of days lamenting that “the air had been take out of the push for [the anti-gun immigration bill].”
What will Boehner do on anti-gun amnesty?
While pro-gun House members held an anti-amnesty press conference, your calls and e-mails to “swing” senators lowered the chances that key members of the Senate GOP might go for a do-nothing sell-out “compromise.”
As Senator Ted Cruz told Rush Limbaugh yesterday, “[There] is nothing more powerful than the conservative grassroots when we are engaged and letting our voice be heard.”
All the while, House Speaker John Boehner told reporters, to their horror, that he wouldn’t bring an anti-gun amnesty bill to the floor over the objections of a majority of House Republicans.  According to anti-gun reporter Anne Kornblut of The Washington Post:  “That’s a real tough one.”
And California Congressman Dana Rohrbacher predicted that Boehner would lose his job if he violated that pledge.
So have we won yet?
Boehner was asked by anti-gun reporters whether he might send a conservative immigration bill to a House-Senate conference –- and allow the conference to turn it into an anti-gun monstrosity.  When asked whether he might rely on Democrats to pass an anti-gun conference report, Boehner replied:  “We’ll see when we get there.”
So that’s today’s task:  To make sure Boehner doesn’t use an anti-gun House-Senate conference to circumvent Republicans in the House.
ACTION:  Click here to contact your Representative.  Ask him to insure that no House-passed immigration bill be sent to conference with an anti-gun amnesty bill from the Senate.

No deals, No Gun Control; PERIOD!

April 24, 2013

Everyone in Washington, D.C. is looking around nervously, waiting for the next shoe to drop.

No one believes for a second the fight ended when the Senate voted down President Obama’s anti-gun agenda last week.

In fact, I’m now getting word from Capitol Hill insiders, gun control could be back on the Senate calendar as early as the end of this week!

Not only that, but less than 24 hours after the United States Senate defeated the Toomey-Manchin Background Check (NATIONAL GUN REGISTRATION) Bill, House Speaker John Boehner announced the House would also “look at [gun violence].”

That’s why I’m going to ask you to sign a No Gun Control, No Deals petition to your Congressman in just a moment.

But first let me explain exactly what we’re facing.

If there’s one thing you and I have learned during the first five years of the Obama presidency, it’s that he’ll do whatever it takes to get his way.

Twisting rules. Twisting arms. Threatening and demonizing the opposition. Effectively bribing Members of Congress with schemes like the “Cornhusker Kickback.”

You name it.

And he’s already stated he has much more in store, saying, “I see this as just round one.”

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid stated ominously, “It is only a matter of time.”

Of course facts don’t matter to gun-grabbers, they will say anything to get their way.

After Boston’s terror attack, gun-grabbers claimed that the terrorists used guns without going through Massachusetts’ registration scheme proves we need a national gun registration system. Up is down in the gun-grabbers’ world.

And as Wednesday’s amendment votes showed, perhaps the greatest threat on our plate right now is so-called “anti-trafficking” legislation — or better-named, the ATF Witch Hunt Bill.

If passed, the ATF Witch Hunt Bill would impose harsh sentences on gun owners — up to 20 years in prison — for buying a firearm to sell or give to a “prohibited person.”

So just buying a shotgun for a son returning home from Afghanistan so you can spend some time in the woods hunting like the old days could be enough to land you in jail for 20 years.

Already, 100,000 veterans are banned from owning guns because they sought help for stress after returning from war.

And since Barack Obama just issued an Executive Order calling on Attorney General Eric Holder to “review categories of individuals prohibited from having a gun,” the definition of “prohibited” could change any day.

Under ATF Witch Hunt legislation, it doesn’t matter if you know whether someone is a “prohibited person” or not — you’re going to prison either way.

The only way for law-abiding Second Amendment supporters to ultimately prove their innocence would be if every firearms transfer is signed off on by the federal government — paving the way for a national gun registry.

And you and I both know, so-called “gun registration” is the first step toward TOTAL GUN CONFISCATION!

This legislation was defeated by only two votes in the Senate!

And in the House, a Republican — Scott Rigell of Virginia — has introduced similar legislation with Democrat Carolyn Maloney of New York.

It could hardly work out more perfectly for the gun-grabbers.

After all, as I’ve told you, Senator Reid’s ONLY goal at this point is to get a gun bill — ANY gun bill — through the Senate.

President Obama and his anti-gun allies don’t believe the House will present much of a problem — especially since Speaker Boehner is unashamedly discussing moving a gun control bill of his own, and said he’d “consider” anti-gun legislation Harry Reid rams through the Senate.

Anyone familiar with Washington-speak knows what Speaker Boehner is saying is that all he’ll ask is to just add an amendment or two to whatever bill Harry Reid wants before he passes it . . .

At that point, all bets are off.

The gun-grabbers’ number-one goal in this fight is to get slightly different versions of the same legislation through both chambers of Congress so they can get to an Obama-controlled Conference Committee.

Once they go to Conference Committee, the bill can be dressed up with all kinds of last-minute anti-gun goodies and rammed through both chambers of Congress and to Obama’s desk before you and I know what hit us.

Already this year, Speaker Boehner has passed three bills through the U.S. House against the will of a majority of Republicans.

He just counted on Nancy Pelosi to round up the Democrat votes he needed to get the job done.

But now, with a Republican introducing the House bill, President Obama is virtually assured of getting the “bipartisan” House majority he so desperately wants to pass this bill into law.

In fact, the House could end up “taking the lead!”

That’s why your support today is so critical.

Behind closed doors right now, President Obama, Harry Reid and the rest of the gun-grabbers are turning up the heat to switch the handful of Senate votes they need to strip away more of our Second Amendment rights.

And House movement on gun control could begin any day, as well.

So you and I cannot afford to let up the pressure on Congress for an instant.

Instead, I need to start pressuring key members of BOTH houses of Congress.

That’s why your No Gun Control, No Deals petition is so critical.

For Freedom,

Dudley Brown
Executive Vice President

No More “Mr. Nice Guy” It’s time for Congressmen to get off the pot

April 5, 2013

GOA has been issuing multiple alerts recently because of the imminent danger that is facing us – as the Senate will soon be taking up gun control legislation.

Much of the focus has been on the Senate. But if anyone thinks that the House – and specifically Speaker John Boehner – is our fail-safe to killing gun control in the Congress, they had better think again.

Speaking on Meet the Press on March 10, Speaker Boehner said that he has “made clear if the Senate acts on gun control legislation, the House will consider it.”

Quite simply, that means that House Speaker John Boehner will allow the House to consider votes on gun control legislation.

Not only that, in an article entitled “House GOP Leaders: We can pass gun control, immigration, without Republican support,” Breitbart.com reported that on issues like guns, Speaker Boehner was open to “taking rogue Republicans across the aisle to work with Democrats.” The House leadership quickly backtracked from this position once the Breitbart article was published.

Regardless, this just underscores how we can’t forget about the House, and how we need to keep the pressure on congressmen – especially the Republicans.

Sadly, at a time when the House leadership announces that they support universal gun registry legislation – only to quickly backtrack – we get nothing but excuses, excuses, excuses about why many GOP congressmen have not signed onto the Stockman-Broun letter.

Representatives Steve Stockman (R-TX) and Paul Broun (R-GA) are doing a bang-up job in the House. They are two of the most active leaders working to defeat gun control in Congress.

And to that end, the Stockman-Broun letter uses precedent to call upon Speaker Boehner to reject all gun control legislation unless it has the support of 117 Republicans. This is called the “Hastert Rule.” And, if Boehner follows it, virtually no gun control can come to the floor of the House. Virtually none.

So far, more than 25 pro-gun Representatives have signed onto the Stockman-Broun letter – and they should be thanked. But there should be lots more.

It’s very frustrating, however, when we have asked pro-gun Congressmen to sign onto the Stockman-Broun letter to tell Speaker Boehner NOT to bring up gun control, but we hear all kinds of excuses as to why they can’t.

Here are the types of excuses that GOA is getting as to why congressmen won’t sign onto the letter, and our answers to their lame excuses:

  • EXCUSE #1: One office said it had signed other gun control letters.
ANSWER: There’s no quota on your support for the Second Amendment.
  • EXCUSE #2: Another office said they were afraid of Boehner’s wrath.
ANSWER: You may want to consider your constituents’ wrath instead.
  • EXCUSE #3: A third office said that gun control was never coming to the House.
ANSWER: Are you going to do nothing until the anvil actually falls on your head? Boehner has publicly stated that Senate-passed gun control would be “considered” by the House.
  • EXCUSE #4: A fourth office said the congressman had promised to be bipartisan.
ANSWER: Obama’s ruthless pursuit of his political goals, at the same time he mouthed words of “bipartisanship” is the reason why he controls the White House and you don’t.
  • EXCUSE #5: A few offices have said they fear this letter is challenging Boehner’s authority.
ANSWER: The Stockman-Broun letter does nothing of the sort. It simply asks the Speaker to follow a rule that was established by a former Republican Speaker of the House. No sanctions are stated or implied – it is only a request asking the Speaker to use the Hastert Rule to kill gun control.

Click here to see the list of Republican congressmen who SHOULD BE on the Stockman-Broun letter, but are not.

ACTION: If your congressman has NOT cosigned the Stockman-Broun letter, then please contact him or her immediately. You may click here to send them a prewritten email. Demand that your Representative sign the letter invoking the Hastert Rule to kill gun control in the House.

The Left is not happy at all with Gun Owners of America: Nothing new about that!

February 15, 2013
“It’s people like [Erich] Pratt who could derail even modest efforts to bring a modicum of sanity to the nation’s gun laws,” said The Washington Post’s Jonathan Capehart on January 16, 2013.
And then there were the insults that CNN’s Piers Morgan threw at GOA Executive Director Larry Pratt when Morgan ran out of arguments — even calling him an “idiot” and “incredibly stupid.”
The Left is scared that their hopes for greater gun control may fall short.  They are scared that history is going to repeat itself.
Remember the battle in 2004 when we fought the renewal of Feinstein’s semi-auto ban?  The media mourned that:
“GOA’s lobbying probably torpedoed the best chance for [renewing the semi-auto ban] this year.” (National Journal, July 17, 2004).
It’s been almost ten years since we won that battle.  And it’s been even longer since GOA stood alone after the Columbine tragedy — drawing a line in the sand — and told Congress that gun owners would accept NOT ONE WORD of gun control.
Now, here we are in 2013 — and the anti-gunners are hysterical.  They are worried that their attempts to get stricter gun laws this year are about to slip through their fingers.
For us, this is all good news.  But let us make this perfectly clear:  THE BATTLE IS NOT WON YET.
And we have to continue to pound, pound, pound — just as we have done over the past two months.
That said, there are good signs around Capitol Hill that your activism is producing tremendous results:
* Anti-gun radicals have all but given up on their ability to pass Feinstein’s semi-automatic ban and magazine ban.  Instead, they are focusing on their universal gun registry and a trafficking/licensure bill.
* If we can just get 117 Republicans in the House to sign the Stockman-Broun letter insisting that no gun control be brought up in the House without the support of 117 Republicans, it will be difficult for House Speaker John Boehner to bring up any gun control in the House.
* The handful of House liberal anti-gun Republicans seem to be holding firm in opposition to the universal gun registry.  Philadelphia suburban Congressman Meehan -– one of the Left’s two key targets -– yesterday flatly resisted MSNBC’s call for him to endorse the registry.
* Unlike the gun control fight after Columbine -– which we won, with great difficulty -– the pro-gun movement is united.  MSNBC’s Joy Reid lamented on January 25 that NRA had become hard-core in order to “compete with extremist [sic] groups like Gun Owners of America.”
* As predicted, the mainline media has shifted, just a little bit, from gun grabbing to job-destruction and amnesty.
So keep up the good work.  Your efforts have taken us a long way toward victory.  But we are not there yet.  We want to thank you for standing with us and for keeping the pressure on!
In Liberty,
Larry Pratt

Surrender monkey’s: Flag this message Boehner and Cantor Surrender… Again

January 22, 2013

Just hours ago, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid announced he will postpone his assault on the filibuster until Thursday.

This battle is far from over, but thanks to your consistent action and quick work to turn up the pressure, it’s clear Harry Reid is scrambling to find the votes he needs.

But right now, there’s another all-out EMERGENCY C4L needs your help to combat.

Tomorrow, in a push led by Speaker John Boehner and Majority Leader Eric Cantor, the U.S. House is scheduled to vote on a plan to increase the debt limit by… infinity.

You see, passage of this scheme would hand President Obama a blank check to spend whatever he can get through Congress before this summer!

That’s why it’s vital you give Speaker Boehner, Majority Leader Cantor, and your U.S. Representative a piece of your mind IMMEDIATELY!

Only weeks ago, as they caved in to President Obama’s demands for higher spending and increased taxes, Republican leadership told you and me not to worry.

Sure, our nation is mired in over $16 TRILLION of debt.

Sure, it’s common sense that Congress needs to rein in its reckless, drunken spending.

But first, they had to cave in to President Obama on economy-crushing higher taxes (and just you never mind that their plan hiked spending, too)…

The good news, we were told, was the new debt ceiling fight would surely give fiscal conservatives the “leverage” they’d been seeking to cut spending!

Now, those outright LIES have been totally exposed.

It seems Speaker Boehner and Eric Cantor are afraid to EVER stand up to President Obama and Harry Reid’s demands for more spending.

In fact, under this new scheme, whatever new spending hikes, massive new boondoggles, and outrageous new assaults on our liberties President Obama can ram through an increasingly compliant Congress by May 19 will be automatically funded with borrowing increases.

And with the Federal Reserve eager to buy up as much debt as they can with dollars created out of thin air, I fear what this could mean to our already fragile economy.

That’s why it’s vital you take action right away!

Please call House Speaker John Boehner and Majority Leader Eric Cantor at once.

Speaker Boehner –  (202) 225-0600

Majority Leader Cantor –  (202) 225-4000

Tell them exactly what you think of this new scheme to grow government, chicken out from taking a stand again, and stick you with the bill – and do not mince words.

While you’re at it, call your U.S. Representative:

(202) 224-3121

Tell your Representative to vote “NO!” on this radical scheme before it’s too late.

Our window to make our voices heard is rapidly closing, so please act at once!

In Liberty,

These people are “leaders?” I caught a lot of hell for calling Romney “obamalite” but take a look please, at most of the rest of the Republicans! We need a whole new batch of Libertarians in places of power. No, not the whack jobs that caused me to leave the party, but the types that Ronald Reagan referred to as the heart and soul of Conservatism. My quote may not be exact, but you get the picture. Liberty and Freedom of the common man and woman most often provide solutions for virtually all of our problems. While government just screws things up beyond belief. Usually via unintended consequences. Is the majority of America, even including the illegal aliens residing here really all that stuck on stupid..? Free cheese isn’t free people, and Freedom isn’t, and never has been “free.”

The Bill of Rights, according to Common Law. Come and take them from me. God willing!

Contempt Order Against Eric Holder

May 4, 2012
Rep. Darrell Issa has now finished making his case for holding Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress.
Holder, who once stated he wants to see kids brainwashed into supporting gun control, has presided over a Justice Department that helped smuggle thousands of illegal guns into Mexico, all for the purpose of justifying greater restrictions upon firearms in the U.S.
This Fast & Furious scandal has resulted in the deaths of more than 300 Mexican nationals, plus two U.S. federal agents.
Issa has published a pair of documents that makes the case for pinning contempt charges on Holder and has sent them to every member of his Oversight and Government Reform Committee.
Issa’s case is based, in part, upon the fact that Holder’s Justice Department “has yet to provide a single document for 12 out of the 22 categories contained in the subpoena schedule.”  In many cases, documents provided by the Department have been completely or mostly blackened out.
Sources on Capitol Hill believe that Issa has the votes to push a contempt citation out of committee.  However, it is unclear whether House Speaker John Boehner is supportive of such a citation.
Fox News reports “that Boehner and House Republican Leader Eric Cantor do not want to deal with a contempt citation against Holder because ‘it’s off message for them.’”
Well, gun owners need to help Boehner see that this is “on message” for him.  This is a quest for justice, as Eric Holder needs to be held accountable for the lies, deceptions and dead bodies left in the wake of Fast & Furious.
Already, more than 100 congressmen have called for Holder’s resignation.  Holding Eric Holder in contempt could bring a fine of $1,000 and a year in jail.
ACTION: Please ask your Representative to urge House Speaker John Boehner to get fully behind a contempt citation against Eric Holder.

Eric Holder: Is Treason too harsh a word?

March 6, 2012
It’s becoming obvious that the corrupt, virulently anti-gun Attorney General Eric Holder thinks he can stonewall Congress in connection with his cover-up of the Fast & Furious Operation.
That Justice Department program sent over 2,000 illegal firearms to Mexican drug cartels, leaving over 300 Mexican nationals and two U.S. agents dead.
Yet, Holder continues to lie under oath and to stonewall Congress.
He has sent only 6,400 pages of the 83,000 documents demanded by a congressional committee -– and many of these are nothing but blackened sheets of paper. Furthermore, he has absolutely refused to provide documents which would tell Congress “what Holder knew and when did he know it” -– claiming that these are “deliberative” in nature.
He has lied under oath, testifying that he didn’t know of Fast and Furious, even though at least seven relevant memoranda had been sent to him, dating as far back as July, 2010.
And, perhaps worst of all, the House appears to be putting on the kid gloves and taking the pressure off this perjurer who continues to harass gun owners as the nation’s chief law enforcement officer.
So the time to act is now. We need to encourage House Speaker Boehner to move the Gosar resolution expressing “no confidence” in the corrupt Attorney General.
Yeah. We know. We know. It would be far better to just impeach Holder.
But we believe that House action condemning Holder would be so rare -– would garner so much press attention –- and would receive such broad support in the House — that it would place enormous pressure on Barack Obama, in an election year, to simply push Holder out the door.
ACTION: Please sign your name to the petition provided by GOA and send it to House Speaker John Boehner. Click here to go to the Speaker’s web contact form.
Forward it to your wife, your kids, your parents, your friends, and your friends’ friends, -– and have them do the same.
This is a pivotal moment in history. If Barack Obama and Eric Holder are given a “pass” on their insidious role in the murderous Fast & Furious program, many Americans who care about the Second Amendment will go into the upcoming elections with no understanding of the moral corruption of this administration -– and the consequences of that corruption, in terms of human life.
So, please, act now.
—————————————————-
PETITION TO HOUSE SPEAKER JOHN BOEHNER
Whereas the Justice Department’s Operation Fast and Furious resulted in over 2,000 firearms being shipped across the Mexican border to Mexican drug cartels;
Whereas Fast & Furious firearms turned up at the murder scenes of over 300 Mexican nationals -– and two Fast and Furious firearms turned up at the murder scene of U.S. Border Agent Brian Terry;
Whereas the Justice Department knew that it had neither the logistical nor the legal ability to track the Fast and Furious firearms which it was deliberately allowing to be transported to Mexican drug cartels;
Whereas, Attorney General Eric Holder testified before the House on May 3, 2011, that he had only known of Operation Fast and Furious for a “few weeks”;
Whereas CBS Evening News reported on October 3, 2011, that Attorney General Holder had received no fewer than seven memoranda on the Fast and Furious program, dating back to July, 2010;
Whereas it is not a legal defense that a principal such as Attorney General Holder deliberately ignored the written advice of his attorneys and his subordinates in a case where his ignorance resulted in over 300 murders;
Whereas Attorney General Holder has politicized the Justice Department and has brought disgrace to himself and the department he heads;
Whereas the only acceptable outcome is for Attorney General Holder to be removed from his position of trust, in anticipation of a full investigation of his criminal culpability;
Be it therefore resolved, that
As a member of Gun Owners of America, I call upon House Speaker John Boehner to schedule immediate House floor consideration of Congressman Gosar’s resolution expressing “no confidence” in Attorney General Eric Holder.
More like try him in Congress and have him impeached. Then, try him in state courts for multiple felonies including felony murder…
