Wyoming: What a mix…

April 19, 2011

People from Wyoming are a mix to be sure. From folks that are one end of the social / political pendulum to the other inhabit this state.

Most are already fed up with the obama and his disastrous programs. Indeed, him and his various cronies appear to have targeted Wyoming for economic disaster. From coal to uranium and hunting we are in the cross-hairs.

It’s no wonder that the Sovereign Citizen Movement is so strong here. But we also tend to support things that would not be expected from a state that is so full of dissatisfied people.

Still, we have a lot of decent people that are members of  or support organizations Such as Wyoming Gun Owners Association and Rocky Mountain Gun Owners just to name a couple.

Yes, we do love our liberty and freedom. Not to mention that nearly everyone here is at least part Taxed Enough Already in our very souls.

A great night for the Second Amendment: Or was it really?

November 5, 2010

The Second Amendment had a great night on Tuesday. Across the nation, the right to arms is stronger than ever, and the stage has been set for constructive reforms in 2011.

U.S. Senate: The net result of Tuesday was a gain of +6 votes on Second Amendment issues.

In not a single U.S. Senate seat did the gun control lobby gain ground. Three open seats switched from anti-gun to pro-gun: Ohio (Rob Portman replacing George Voinovich), West Virginia (Joe Manchin taking the seat of the late Robert Byrd), North Dakota (John Hoeven replacing Byron Dorgan). In Arkansas, John Boozman’s victory over Blanche Lincoln is a significant gain.

It just so happens that I agree with Dave Kopel about 99% of the time. Now, having said that..? Just how many of these new kids on the block will take on Lautenberg and Schumer. Two men devoted to the destruction of the Constitution and Bill of Rights? How many will put forth legislation doing away with GCA 1968? Or the ex post facto law portion, if not the entire Lautenberg Domestic Violence Act? The abortion known as obamacare? With it’s hidden as well as blatant un Constitutional mandates..? I myself, am sick of hearing how this or that “D” is pro Second Amendment then all they do is pay lip service… Unless it’s election time, and that goes for RINO’s like McCain as well!

HERE is another good read that, especially if you read the comments. Shows to what extremes some people will go to for the sole purpose of “Lording it over” you and I.

Will the hoplophobia continue on. It is, after all, politically correct mental illness.

President of Wyoming Family Coalition lies to gun owners about Matt Mead

November 2, 2010

Reprinted, with permission.

Director of Wyoming Gun Owners asks for Maureen Emrich to step down.

Maureen Emrich, President of Wyoming Family Coalition, has apparently become a mouthpiece for the Mead Campaign. But not on the issues one would expect. To the contrary Emrich has decided to act as if she is an expert on gun rights. To read Emrich’s letter click here

These are the same kind of insider politics that have become the norm with ineffective lobby groups, including the NRA. Instead of standing for principles, they opt to sell-out and compromise, only leading to furthering the opposition’s agenda. We call this the proverbial seat at the table.

Being a Wyoming Gun Rights Advocate, I expect attacks on my character from career politicians, but not from a conservative advocacy group’s leader. Like me, you should find it disturbing that Emrich left out the most important part – THE TRUTH.  As usual I pride myself in delivering factual information, so please listen to the following conversation with Maureen Emrich. click here

Emrich’s letter is strikingly similar to the Mead Campaigns rhetoric, however Bill Novotny from the Mead Campaign denies that they had anything to do with Emrich’s letter. My hunch is that a lower level campaign aid was involved and Maureen Emrich was foolish to take the bait!

Since she threw gun rights under the bus for political gain, it reveals that Emrich is calling plays right out of “the book of compromise”. Following are the facts that Emrich was so eager to overlook:

1. It is an undeniable fact that Matt Mead fought against gun rights and States Rights in Wyoming vs. BATF. For Brady Campaign link click here

2. Matt Mead stated he was just doing his job, but I contend he ignored the oath he took to uphold the Constitution.

3. Mead admitted that as a U.S. Attorney he had the ability to recues himself from a case, but he chose not to do so in Wyoming vs. BATF.

4. Mead has been disingenuous by reporting he never had contact with me, the truth is Mead spoke with me by phone, not just once, but twice. Mead said about Wyoming vs. BATF – quote – “I was just doing my job” and “you should see my gun collection”.

5. Mead is misleading in telling his supporters that he knows me as “some blogger from California”. Mead is fully aware of my position as a gun rights advocate in Wyoming.

MORE REVEALING INFORMATION–
6. Mead supports the Patriot Act, in his own words he stated and I quote – “You’re not going to like my answer, I support the Patriot Act”. If you don’t know what the Patriot Act is click here

By writing an editorial without verifying facts, Maureen Emrich, President of a group that says it stands for conservative principles, has seemingly become nothing more than a marionette puppet with politicians pulling her strings.  Look out – Emrich’s nose might start growing!

To put this more directly, Emrich has no business sticking her nose where it doesn’t belong!

Clearly, if Emrich can so easily attack those who have consistently defended Gun Rights, it will call into question her ability to lead a “conservative” organization in Wyoming, PERIOD.

Wyoming Conservatives, especially the “gun bearing” types, should contact the Wyoming Family Coalition and ask that Maureen Emrich immediately submits her resignation.  Not only is their credibility at stake. But it is apparent that under her leadership their organization has only become part of the problem in Wyoming politics.

GOP RINO’s attack: Truth in politicing?

October 29, 2010

Seems that there are some behind the scenes activity going on in Wyoming politics. As usual, the mainstream GOP is attempting to co-op TEA Party people, and calling members of the movement out of touch, radicals, and all the usual garbage.

There are a number of letters circulating on the Internet telling people to Google Matt Mead — guns. When they do they are led to several websites (more than one of them designed by the same person giving the impression that there is a whole body of “evidence” regarding Matt’s position on gun control, when in fact just one person is pushing his own agenda). These phony sites are putting out erroneous information concerning Matt Mead’s record on gun issues.

Really? Have you bothered to notice all the comments? Or the fact that this blog certainly isn’t ran by that person?

A California transplant moved to Wyoming and started a blog about gun rights and gun issues. He published that Matt Mead was anti-gun and supported the BATF in lawsuits against Wyoming and Wyoming gun laws. These statements are not true and when confronted, said blogger refused to meet with Matt to correct his misrepresentations.

Sorry, but the facts are otherwise. Not to mention that he uses a website, not a blog… I’m also a California transplant just to let you know. I left there in 1978 because of the stupid anti freedom things that were going on. Now people are trying to pull the same sorts of insanity here..?

Matt Mead is a member of the NRA and has an A rating from them. He has not favored/does not favor gun control. People need to remember that the Internet is a tool which can be a very good source of information, but some who have an agenda can also use it to spread misinformation. Wyoming has seen its share of “dirty politics” but deliberate untruths which seek to malign a person’s character or present false information about him should be rejected.

One of Matt mead’s big campaign points is that he will stand up for Wyoming: FACT; He went after Wyoming as a U.S. Attorney. Just doing his job? Alright, I can understand that. That’s also what those folks said at Nuremberg, and things didn’t work out so well for them. Rightfully so I might add. So what if the NRA gave him a favorable rating? They gave favorable ratings to a lot of people that the membership, such as myself, deplore.

I have found Matt Mead to be very approachable and willing to sit down and rationally discuss any topic. I am certain that Matt will protect your Second Amendment rights as well as other constitutional rights and will be a good governor for Wyoming.

He may be, but if past behavior is any indicator of future actions then the people of Wyoming need to think long and hard about electing a RINO. Not that there is much out there to be had other than the lessor of evils, yet again.

Uniting in Wyoming..?

August 22, 2010

Already we are hearing about Republicans uniting behind Matt Mead for the Governorship in November. While he most certainly is better than his Democrat opponent Wyomingites need to remember that Matt Mead has some pretty serious flaws.

Mister Mead is anything but a supporter of limited government, or states rights. Those are two very big issues here in the Cowboy State. His positions regarding gun control are abominable, and no, his NRA membership and rating mean very little.

I have to wonder what Matt Mead’s positions, as a former U. S. Attorney are on things like Ex Post Facto Law, and unfunded mandates from the Federal Government? On economic sustainability as opposed to federal handouts? On taxation in general?

“Using a proven two-prong strategy, WyGO – (Wyoming Gun Owners Association) lobbying before and during the legislative session and WyGO-PAC exposing the anti-gun politicians during the election cycle — WyGO PAC gives citizens of Wyoming a very powerful way to defend their gun rights without any risk of having their support handed over to politicians who treat the Second Amendment with contempt.”

Rita Meyer: Governor or beached bass?

May 20, 2010

Rita Meyer recently changed her stance on Obamacare. Originally she stated that Freudenthal is doing the right thing by not joining other states in a lawsuit against the federal health-care mandate.

In the recent weeks we have seen, Colin Simpson and Matt Mead, possible early picks for Governor by the Democrats, Rita Meyer may also be following the same path.

Agreeing with Governor Freudenthal, Meyer stated:

“the Governor has taken a very measured approach, I think it’s the right approach, It’s the approach I would take”

The Flip-Flop…

Rita Meyer
Photo – wyoming.gov

Possibly in a move to be politically expedient Meyer said she would:

“Direct the state attorney to join in the fight”.

Click here to listen to the audio clip

For the record this isn’t the first time Rita Meyer changed her mind, she originally stated to an audience the following–
“The Wyoming National Guard could be used to protect state residents from “inevitable federal abuse.”

The very next day, Meyer retracted her original statement, saying – “it would be an inappropriate use of the National Guard”.

Many individuals believe since we see both Congress and the current administration in a full-fledged power grab, it certainly doesn’t help Myers to continually change on her positions.

Putting Myers even further behind are statements like this where Meyer said “the federal government has a role in feeding school children”, this could be where she has a hard time with state rights issues, since her definition of the proper role of government is mixed.

Bringing us to this question, can a candidate truly take to heart a fight against federal intrusion on issues such as health-care, and at the same time rally for a “free lunch” from the same federal government?

At this point in the game it appears that Meyer, no matter what the issue or how she answers, it must be checked at a later date to see if she has “changed her mind”.

This could make Rita Meyer untrustworthy in the eyes of many conservative voters.

Colin Simpson’s campaign manager speaks out

May 20, 2010

In a recent letter to the editor of the Wyoming Tribune, Joe Milczewski manager for the Simpson campaign has come out against the notion that the Democrats have their pick in Colin Simpson.

Unfortunately he neglects the fact that the Chairman of the Democratic Party Gwen Hamilton, virtually endorsed Colin Simpson on the Simpson’s own campaign web-site.

Simpson’s campaign manager defended the actions of the Democratic Chairman by calling them “Reagan Democrats”. While probably wise to thank them for their support, this spin actually reaffirms the intent of Simpson to pander for votes.

Being the Speaker of the House, Simpson has been relatively quiet during the recent uproar in support of blocking Obama Care in Wyoming. Since there was a mandate from the Democrat Party to block the Healthcare Freedom legislation these actions from the Simpson Campaign could be a defining moment in his run for governor.

Hearing all this talk about these “Blue Dogs” and “Reagan Democrats” here in Wyoming mirrors the tactics used by the Democrats during the healthcare debacle in Washington, to hear the same rhetoric from a “Republican” Gubernatorial candidate may not go over too well with conservative voters.

Simpson’s campaign manager goes on to suggest that “Simpson unites people”. I believe we heard the same exact thing during the Obama campaign, and we all know how that’s how that working out?

More political blather about being conservative could only weaken Simpsons defense, Since Wyoming’s government has grown to record size under his leadership.

Just “politics as usual” and recycled rhetoric coming out of Simpson’s campaign, is that what we can expect from Simpson as the Governor of Wyoming?

Matt Mead for Governor, Star Tribunes latest praise spells caution

May 19, 2010

Matt Mead for Governor

From a Casper Star Tribune opinion – Mead could follow in Freudenthal’s footsteps :

“In a crowded GOP gubernatorial primary, Matt Mead is the candidate who most reminds us of the states current Democratic governor, Dave Freudenthal”

It seems that the Casper Star Tribune has named their pick for Governor. I must say if you’re looking for a liberal leaning candidate you might have to agree with them.

As a former U.S. Attorney, Mead would be the most likely candidate to side with the Feds, JUST LIKE Dave Freudenthal.

The Star-Tribune goes on to praise Matt Mead even lifting him up to Freudenthal’s pedestal, on more than one occasion.

The Red Flag – when the most liberal, anti-gun rag in the state virtually endorses Mead, I believe it sends a strong message to the voters, here it comes…

CAUTION! – Matt Mead another Freudenthal for Governor!!!

no rinos
Image A.Bouchard

The Casper Star Tribune also goes on to say –“Mead is well qualified for the job. In addition to serving as a federal prosecutor, where he had to make decisions that he noted involved ‘life, liberty and property’”.

On this point Mead is right, “he was involved with such decisions”, but what Mead and the Trib fail to tell you is, Matt Mead was on the WRONG SIDE of the decisions. Mead actually fought against gun rights and state sovereignty in one flailing swoop.

When I questioned Mead on this, all he had to say was…

“You should see my gun collection”…and …I was just doing my job”.

Neither of which qualifies Mead to be at the helm of the Independent State of Wyoming.

Remember like Mead the Nazi soldiers also “had gun collections” and claimed “they were also just doing their job” while throwing corpses in the trenches.

FACT – When given a choice to protect the state of Wyoming or take the money and fight AGAINST IT, Mead took the money as shown in the case Wyoming vs. BATF. Honestly, the group I hang with would rather die than fight for the gungrabbers.

Despite the truth of the court case which is on the Brady Anti-Gun Campaign web-site, Mead has spoke out saying- “Do not to believe anything on the internet”. Also at events in Sheridan and Cheyenne, Mead stated that “Some blogger is spreading lies”. Mead also said that this blogger (apparently me) wouldn’t meet with him, as if we never spoke with each other. Here’s the rub: it is certainly disingenuous of Mead since we have had two phone conversations about his Venomously Anti-Gun Record.

Further, Meads Campaign Manager Bill Novotny “got in my face” at an event in Cheyenne saying to me – “you must work for someone”, he was apparently attempting to stifle me but, these establishment style tactics are nothing more than a case of “we can’t dispute the message, so let’s kill the messenger”.

More rhetoric comes as if to say Mead isn’t pandering to the Democrats, Novotny said “he hasn’t heard of any Democrats supporting Mead”, really! Everyone else knows except Novotny, Mead’s Campaign Manager?

Again just “POLITICS AS USUAL” coming out of the Mead Campaign.

Is this what Wyoming needs, a Governor that reminds us of Freudenthal? I don’t think so.

From crisis to crushing of liberties, happens just that fast

May 12, 2010

Reprinted with permission of the Author.

You may have read about the Sheridan Police and how they harassed me and my family, you may also know that I would not comply with their request for identification since they performed an illegal stop. This isn’t my just my opinion, the basis in which a police officer cannot detain, search and seize just because a person is armed has been upheld by the courts time and again.

From the Tenth Circuit Court ruling by Judge BRUCE D. BLACK in a recent case in New Mexico:
“relying on well-defined Supreme Court precedent, the Tenth Circuit and its sister courts have consistently held that officers may not seize or search an individual without a specific, legitimate reason. . . . The applicable law was equally clear in this case. Nothing…prohibited openly carrying a firearm…summary judgment is granted with regard to his Fourth Amendment and…constitutional claims”

You are about to see how some individuals are challenged by the police at greater extremes, the following is from U.S. District 7 in Wisconsin. Jesus Gonzalez a U.S. Citizen that was abused by the same ones that are sworn to uphold the constitution, he was not only arrested for merely having a gun, according to court documents the police retained his property for 10 months before returning it and that was only after a court order.

But please realize this is how “law enforcement” joins the fight against your liberties. And yes it happens even though everyone involved took an oath to uphold the constitution.

From my own personal experience:
When the Town of Pine Bluffs Wyoming took a stance that the open carrying of firearms would be regulated by the local police, the town attorney Alex Davison told me “that he spoke with the Judge (wouldn’t you like that luxury?) and there had not been a similar case and he as the town attorney felt comfortable with an arrest and trying such a case in court”.

The Pine Bluffs town attorney was willing to usurp constitutional rights by using the courts, even though state law preempted their municipal power. Of course Mr. Davison finally saw the light and later relented.

Back to Mr. Gonzalez, he resides where concealed carry permits are not issued, in Wisconsin statute dictates the only way you may carry a firearm is fully exposed or what is called open carry.

The police officers ignored the fact that Gonzales had done nothing illegal, detained him and arrested him, seized his property including his social security card. Remember Mr. Gonzalez was forced to get a court order to get his own SSN card back.

Besides performing an illegal arrest, search and seizure, the police denied Gonzalez a right of refusal to disclose his SSN, in violation of Section 7(a) of the Privacy Act, even threatened him with jail if he failed to provide it.

But why would the police want to seize and keep a social security card of Mr. Gonzalez a Hispanic U.S. Citizen? I can’t help thinking that the police had intensions of flexing their authority in his face.

Second time’s a charm isn’t it?
About a year later the police arrested Mr. Gonzalez a second time and again pushing the envelope retained his firearm, magazine and ammunition, against his will and without a warrant and without what was needed the most, “PROBABLE CAUSE”.

So here is where I am going with this:
I contend that enacting legislation for example, under the guise of protecting us from illegal immigration with the possibility of “redefining probable cause” in the courts is dangerous stuff. Knee jerk responses to monumental issues could mean that unintended consequences will be at the forefront.

Also think about this, we are in a time where using a tactic of “pushing the federal government to fix the problem” will only weaken the tenth amendment fight on other issues. Wyoming should only enact legislation in which we take the bull by the horns, asking nothing of the federal government and at the same time hold up constitutional protections.

Remember from the last Line in the Sand article:
Wyoming Constitution 97-1-007 – Absolute, arbitrary power over the lives, liberty and property of freemen exists nowhere in a republic, not even in the largest majority.

Drafting laws at the state level that are concurrent with federal immigration law or simply using existing laws to enforce illegal immigration, would be most prudent.

As far as the Feds – “they really don’t want to fix the problem” or “maybe they just want more control over U.S. Citizens”. To draw the same conclusion, you must first understand how the game is played, it is all about politics and politics is all about, here it comes…wait for it  – “WHO RULES WHOM”.

While many neglect to see the danger of changing the rules in the middle of the game, it will be the very people that support such actions that will later find, they too are caught in the snare.
Since early gun control was racist by nature and was originally enacted to control the gun ownership of Blacks, to ignore this political incrementalism now could bring us full circle.

Also by allowing our elected officials to use incrementalism against our liberties, then we will surely lose. In my opinion, when we see issues like immigration and terrorism being politicized, the first thing that comes to mind is this -“Caveat Emptor” or “Let the buyer beware”.

Want proof?
Under the threat of the “war on terror” under the Bush Administration, Attorney General Ashcroft rallied for full control over what were supposed to be rights that were protected by the constitution.
If you remember the Left made an issue about this abusive control put in place by President Bush.

Fast forward to the present time and now the Left is silent when Obama and his appointees support the Bush policies including the Patriot Act. Even more alarming, Eric Holder has stated that he wants to change the Miranda rules, this means that once again your own constitutionally protected rights are now in danger under the guise of terrorism.

How can this be, the Left now agrees with policy put in place by Bush and now they are even willing to grab more power by changing the Miranda.

Please understand I never supported this kind of policy coming from Bush and now only mention it to shine a light on the this – Both the Left and Right are guilty of using and creating crisis for political gain and with such action comes legislation that will crush your liberties.

Like I said – Let the buyer beware, in this case no matter which side is selling the goods.
