Newt Gingrich on Guns: A Mixed Record

November 10, 2011

Prior to the “Republican Revolution” of 1994, Rep. Newt Gingrich of Georgia had earned an A rating with Gun Owners of America. But that all changed in 1995, after Republicans were swept to power and Gingrich became Speaker of the House.

The Republicans gained the majority, thanks in large part to gun owners outraged by the Clinton gun ban. And upon taking the reins of the House, Speaker Gingrich said famously that, “As long as I am Speaker of this House, no gun control legislation is going to move in committee or on the floor of this House and there will be no further erosion of their rights.”

His promise didn’t hold up, however, and his GOA rating quickly dropped like a lead sinker to a “D.” In 1996, the Republican-led Congress passed the “gun free school zones act,” creating criminal safe zones like Virginia Tech, where the only person armed was a murderous criminal. Speaker Newt Gingrich voted for the bill containing this ban.1

The same bill also contained the now infamous Lautenberg gun ban, which lowered the threshold for losing one’s Second Amendment rights to a mere misdemeanor.2 Gun owners could, as a result of this ban, lose their gun rights forever for non-violent shouting matches that occurred in the home — and, in many cases, lose their rights without a jury trial.

While a legislator might sometimes vote for a spending bill which contains objectionable amendments, that was clearly NOT the case with Newt Gingrich in 1996. Speaking on Meet the Press in September of that year, Speaker Gingrich said the Lautenberg gun ban was “a very reasonable position.”3 He even refused to cosponsor a repeal of the gun ban during the next Congress — despite repeated requests to do so.4

Also in 1996, Speaker Gingrich cast his vote for an anti-gun terror bill which contained several harmful provisions. For example, one of the versions he supported (in March of that year) contained a DeLauro amendment that would have severely punished gun owners for possessing a laser sighting device while committing an infraction as minor as speeding on a federal reservation.5 (Not only would this provision have stigmatized laser sights, it would have served as a first step to banning these items.) Another extremely harmful provision was the Schumer amendment to “centralize Federal, State and Local police.”6

Will we be left with yet again holding our noses as we cast our votes..? Herman Cain‘s 999 plan will in fact raise taxes on virtually all Americans. That’s a really big no no for me. Romney is yet another RINO that would make the epic failure obama a shoe in if he were to run with Romney as his V. P. pick. Cain is also a suspect when it comes to being a closet gun grabber. Rick Perry has no real plan to deal with the invasion across our southern border, a deal breaker for me. Bachman needs to grow up politically. Ron Paul… is Ron Paul, what else can I say? Too be blunt, I have no use for Santorum, or any of the others, and in fact believe that they would be dangerous if placed into high office.

Still, I have to be considered a charter member of ABO, the anyone but obama group. Beyond that, the epic failure just might get reelected. To that end it is of utmost importance that we Conservatives and Libertarians see to it that both the Senate and House are solidly out of the hands of the Communist/Democrat/Progressive’s that are hell bent on destroying these United States. Election 2012 will, I believe, mark a turning point in American politics for years to come. Gary Nolan, a founder of the Libertarian Party, marked this election that way years ago while speaking at the Colorado convention. Something to do with election / political cycles.

Granted, no candidate is ever “perfect.” But compromising is simply not on the table when your core values are on the line. I say that along the lines of Barry Goldwater and it is a very good policy to follow. That takes a sort of moral courage that is, in reality, possessed by few people…

Questions and such; As the World (Election 2012) turns

November 2, 2011

All too often we seem to get caught up in things that are nothing but distractions. It’s like being on a deer or elk hunt, and focusing the cross hairs on the antlers. Sure, those are what will get you into the book and hang on the wall. Perhaps even on the cover of a magazine. But they don’t get to the heart of the matter, pun intended.

Let’s go over a few such things, in no particular order of importance.

Illegal immigration is a deal breaker for many Americans. Put a clamp on it, or you don’t get the vote from a pretty large number of Americans, including one heck of a lot of Americans of Mexican extraction. Hold your nose and vote appears to be what we are once again headed for on that one…

Taxes… Americans pay one heck of a lot in taxes. Add all the state and local taxes, often camouflaged as user fees and we are well above many other nations. An awful lot of that can be laid directly at the feet of the various unions. But certainly not all. Various special interests groups also play a big role. Examples might be moralists that seek to force their beliefs upon us all under the guise of public health or expense. Think “sin” taxes. Then there are those that take environmentalism to an absurd extreme. These things all have a monetary cost, and guess where the money comes from?

Constitutional Rights, including The Bill of Rights. Often, these are treated like statistics. As in being twisted to fit whatever this or that person or groups agenda is. Free speech and Second Amendment rights seem to fall into that category most often. However let’s not forget what the Supreme Court has done these past few years concerning private property rights or search and seizure just to name two. The “Patriot Act” seems to have been crafted to fit that famous quotation having to do with trading security for liberty.

The economy as always, or at least every time I turn around is always way up there and right now is probably at the very top of the list for many. As it should be… It is also tied by the neck to just about every other issue. Here’s the thing though. Government cannot “create” jobs. What it can do though is create a climate that either stifles job growth and hinders that, or encourages job creation. How to go about that has been the great debate for many years and, I suspect will continue to do so for many years after I am long gone.

The “Drug War” continues on unabated. Again, this issue is intertwined with many others, and no. I do not advocate the use of drugs, other than as needed for the medical issues of the individual. The fact that drugs being contraband though creates an enormous market with corresponding profits. Profits that allow the purchase of very powerful weaponry that is in turn used to secure and bolster the business of those engaged in such enterprises. End the drug war, and you put a knife to the throat of the profits of murdering thugs and terrorists around the world. No, it will not stop them from their nefarious ways completely, but will go a long way toward that end.

Special Interests legislation. A real black eye for America to be sure. Whether it is one sided sexist laws that destroy our families or pure cronyism in the name of social or monetary profits these things need to be done away with.

Military and Veteran’s issues. These are things that simply are far to wide ranging to list. We must have a strong and powerful military. We have more than a few enemies around the world, and the group of home grown “Hate America First” types certainly don’t help matters. The way that we treat our Veterans can be summed up in a single word. That word  being “shameful.”

The United States of America, still a work in progress, and still, the best place on this earth in which to be alive.

Proposition 103: What is the Cost to Colorado Taxpayers?

October 22, 2011

Introduction:

Proposition 103 is an initiative that will increase Colorado tax rates and require the state to spend the money on government schools. Prop 103 increases the personal income tax, the corporate income tax, and the statewide sales and use tax for the years 2012 through 2016.

The Fiscal Impact Statement prepared by Colorado’s Legislative Council Staff estimates the cost of the tax increase at $2.9 billion. However, the cost for Colorado taxpayers will be significantly greater than staff estimates. Legislative Council uses static analysis, measuring only the direct impact of the higher taxes on state revenue. They ignore the negative impact the tax increase will have on economic growth and jobs in Colorado.

SOURCE

So, even with built in automatic tax increases Colorado Schools (Unions) need even more money. Now why couldn’t I have guessed that?

Nevertheless, I’m sure that the people of Colorado will vote in favor of this measure. Because after all is said and done the people there are stuck on stupid.

The Great Society

October 17, 2011

There are always social experiments going on. That said, most are flops. Social engineering just doesn’t work. At least when it is based in the political correctness of the day. One of the biggest failures in more recent times would be Lyndon Johnson‘s destructive socialist program known as “The Great Society.” This creation and expansion of the welfare state has caused, for the most part, the exact opposite of what it was meant to eliminate.

The epic failure obama’s attempt to wreck havoc upon America via obamacare, operation fast and furious, and pure Chicago style cronyism are extensions of that failed experiment. An exercise in repeating the same operation and expecting a different outcome are hallmarks of socialism and communistic thinking.

This macroeconomic success owed nothing to policymakers’ fine tuning, because neither the administration nor Congress made such delicate adjustments of fiscal policy as conditions changed. In truth, the U.S. government was institutionally incapable of fine tuning fiscal policy, however much it appealed to Keynesian economists drawing diagrams on blackboards.

Full Story

Now we have obama’s foot soldiers staging occupations here, there, and everywhere blaming America and our way of life for their own failures. They remind me of children saying “not me” when confronted about something that has gone wrong. Rather than rolling up their sleeves and doing something that is actually productive themselves they stage protests that ultimately result in more government, more rules, and less personal freedom.

The United States of America. Land of the free. That includes the freedom to fail. Home of the brave. Courage, to take on the task of personal wealth creation without having government getting involved in that task so long as we do not infringe on the freedoms and liberty of others while doing that.

Ah, the good old days: Protestors arrested

October 2, 2011

Seems like the more things change, the more they stay the same. At least a lot of the time. Whats at the top of Google News today?

An anti capitalist protest that ends in arrests that’s what!  Along with the usual complaints about the police. But wait! Most were released immediately!

Read about it here.

So what’s missing? Well, bashed in heads, tear gas, flying feces, and other assorted acts of mayhem by both sides (allegedly) of the dispute.

More

Back in the day there would have been real protestors. Shin kicking below the cameras viewfinders, accusations of female groping by arresting officers, the occasional Molotov cocktail, and of course, interjection of completely unrelated societal complaints by the lucky few that made it in front of the television crews about unjust wars, wars in general, capitalism being the work of Satan, oh, and religion and family and anything else that could be thrown into this Mulligan stew of Hate America First expressionism.

These people are a bunch of amateurs at best...

The Second Amendment is Coming Under Fire! Vote could occur as early as Wednesday

September 20, 2011
Earlier this month, we alerted you to the fact that Congress will have an opportunity to defund some of the anti-gun programs that the Obama Administration has foisted upon the American people.
Well, we are sorry to report that the congressional leadership is not yet listening to you. The House will soon be taking up H.J.Res. 79, which bundles all 12 appropriation bills to fund the federal government for the next month and a half.
According to GOA’s sources on Capitol Hill, this bill contains:
  • NO DEFUNDING of ObamaCare;
  • NO DEFUNDING of Operation Fast & Furious which was used to demonize American gun owners, while helping send arms to Mexican drug cartels;
  • NO DEFUNDING of requirements that will register American gun owners in the Southwest — regulations that were instituted by the Obama Administration as a way of deflecting attention from their involvement in Fast & Furious;
  • NO DEFUNDING of the shotgun and rifle import bans; and,
  • NO DEFUNDING of the Administration’s ability to engage in negotiations on an anti-gun small arms treaty.
ACTION: We need to redouble our efforts. Please use the pre-written letter to contact your congressman, and urge your friends and family to do the same. Time is of the essence!
Tell your Representative to stake out a position early and publicly that they will oppose any continuing resolution which does not defund ObamaCare, Fast & Furious, the illegal long gun multiple sales regs, the illegal shotgun and rifle bans, and the UN negotiations to produce a treaty which will register American gun owners.

Dear Attack Watch…Let’s a play a little game of 20 QUESTIONS…

September 20, 2011

Stolen from my good friend Texas Fred. Because it is too good not to share!

1. WHAT HAPPENED TO ALL OF THAT STIMULUS MONEY?? AND YOU EXPECT US TO FALL FOR IT AGAIN?!?!?!

2. Is it okay for you to have members of the New Black Panthers standing outside voting centers in full camouflage gear threatening whites with baseball bats and night sticks?

3. Is it also okay for you to have ACORN register dead people to vote and automatically submit them as democrat voters?

4. Is it also okay for you to flat out LIE to the American people 7 TIMES in the first two minutes of your acceptance speech the night that you was so-called “elected”?

5. Is it also okay for you to have Congress vote on and pass a healthcare bill IN THE DARK OF NIGHT that over half the country DIDN’T want shoved down their throats? You need to know that this WILL ultimately be proven unconstitutional…..maybe you didn’t hear, but government CANNOT FORCE it’s citizens to purchase a government subsidized good or service.

6. Is it also okay for you to push California to pass the Dream Act so that he has more voters on his side for the election next year because he bought them all off with FREE healthcare, FREE housing, FREE food, FREE education, FREE EVERYTHING?

7. Is it also okay that you failed to acquire, let alone EVEN ASK FOR, congressional approval for a meaningless one-sided war in Libya? By the way, Bush asked for and received congressional approval for the war in Iraq….his request WAS met with some differences of opinion, but HE DID ASK…..YOU DID NOT.

8. While we’re on the subject, why do you continuously run to the UN every time you have a problem? This country is NOT run by the UN….we are a SOVERIEGN NATION that governs itself…..maybe they didn’t teach you that in American History. OH, MY BAD!! I forgot….you went to school in INDONESIA!!

9. Is it okay that when a UNION THUG like Jimmy Hoffa literally threatens a group of people in a warm-up speech for the President, that President (YOU) remains silent and doesn’t strike that UNION THUG’S comments down in some kind of response? Pardon me, but I’ve lived in this country my ENTIRE LIFE….I’m pretty darn certain that EVERYTHING in Hoffa’s speech was gone over with a fine tooth comb…do you REALLY think we are THAT STUPID?

10. Why is it that you can’t simply produce your actual long form birth certificate? Anybody that applies for a job in this country needs to provide several different forms of ID. I would think that someone who wants to be PRESIDENT would be scrutinized down to the very last letter of the alphabet.

11. Where are the college transcripts from Harvard and Occidental? They were probably burned right along with the B.C., huh?

12. How can you call yourself a Christian when you don’t celebrate Christmas or Easter, but yet you recognize and celebrate the MUSLIM holy month of Ramadan?

13. Why is that you CONTINUOUSLY apologize for our status as a Superpower Nation?

14. Why do you bow down to foreign leaders?

15. Why do you try and make a toast when God Save The Queen is being played?

16. Why did you REALLY close that Boeing plant in South Carolina?

Let’s talk about your wife for a moment…..

17. Is it okay that she goes on vacations left and right on the taxpayers dime, of which she spent $10 MILLION??

18. Is it also okay that your wife can eat burgers and fries, while at the same time, telling us Americans to eat more veggies and make their portions smaller?

19. Is it also okay for that same UNPATRIOTIC wife to disrespect the American flag at Ground Zero on 9/11/11?

20. Is it also okay for YOU to ask AMERICAN CITIZENS to rat out their own neighbors if they happen to say something negative about the President?

I have NEVER supported you from day one and do not have even a bit of an inkling of support for you now….nor will I ever. I will say though, that I recognize and have full respect for the OFFICE that you currently hold. That doesn’t mean that I need to respect the person that holds the office of POTUS. Remember, they are two VERY different things. You will NEVER have my respect for you as a person. How can I be expected to respect someone that disrespects our Constitution?

Trust me when I say that we Conservatives do NOT fear this new “snitcher site” of yours one tiny bit. This site has now made you THE laughingstock of the internet and believe me….WE ARE ROLLING ON THE FLOOR & LAUGHING OVER THIS!! It’s actually quite humorous, if you haven’t figured that out by now when taking in all of the Twitter posts that have been made since your little site started up. You are only giving us MORE firepower against you every single day.

We are not a people of violence….unless YOU DECIDE to make us resort to such. This site you’ve created only proves just how desperate and paranoid you really are. Why don’t you just give it up and surrender already? Just sayin.

SIGN THE PETITION FOLKS: ATTACKWATCH.COM Petition2Congress

YOU WILL LOVE THIS, YOU GUYS!! THANKS LUIS!! Attack Snitch

I hope my readers will share this far and wide, it needs to be seen by Conservatives all over this nation.

We have Obama’s number, we KNOW what he’s about, and it looks like a page right out of the Communist and/or NAZI playbook, and America is NOT going to stand for this nonsense.

Obama said, “If you love me, help me pass this bill”, well, I am saying this, if YOU love America, help me take Obama down! Obama must go, the very SURVIVAL of the USA depends on it!

DREAM Act (Part II) reaches Jerry Brown

September 19, 2011

California Governor Jerry Brown has the chance to make some undocumented and illegal California residents’ dreams come true if he signs AB 131, the second part of the so-called California Dream Act. Passed through the State Assembly and Senate in the past weeks, it now sits on the Governor’s desk.

The California Dream Act, authored by Assemblyman Gilbert Cedillo (D-Los Angeles), comprises two bills known as AB 130 and 131. Brown signed AB 130 this July – a bill allowing undocumented residents and college students in the state to receive private funding and scholarships.

AB 131, if Brown signs it, will allow undocumented college students to receive public funding from the state as of January 1, 2013. Undocumented college students in California are currently ineligible for such state funding. But federal law currently allows a state to provide “any state or local public benefit” to eligible undocumented residents if state law “affirmatively provides for that eligibility.”

AB 131 passed the California State Senate on August 31 and the State Assembly on September 2. Should the bill become law, it would provide undocumented residents “with more education benefits than they have in any other state,” according to the New York Times.

The text in AB 131 would amend state education law to require the trustees, board of governors, or regents in charge of the various California public college systems to follow the new procedures. For undocumented students who qualify, universities would have “to establish procedures and forms that enable students to apply for, and participate in, all student aid programs…to the full extent permitted by federal law.”

The bill would provide financial aid in the form of community college district fee waivers, institutional aid from CSU and UC schools, and access to Cal Grants (which students do not need to pay back) for eligible undocumented residents. A Senate Appropriations Committee Fiscal Summary estimates the fiscal impact for the 2013-14 school year to be $13 million in Cal Grants, $7.5 to $15 million in fee waivers, and $11.4 to $12.2 million in institutional aid.

The great debate… Sort of…

September 8, 2011

The much anticipated Republican Presidential candidates debate was, well, for myself a lot of hooey that didn’t cut to the chase. It reminded me more of a game of dodge ball in that Romney and Perry pretty much stole the show. My lasting question being, “who squirmed be best?”

I seriously have to wonder about these people. Between obamnycare, and illegal immigration I have doubts about both the leading candidates. Then we have the Social Security red herring issue. Look folks, it’s a rip off that I myself am going to have to live with just because of how many times I have seen the sun set in the west. That does not mean that Americans should be saddled with this big government rip off forever, and allowing the democrats to frame that debate leaves me wondering just how much true leadership really exists within the Republican Party. Tell you what? Perhaps the Republicans should once again co-opt the Libertarians positions and strategies on that issue. Those from back in the day when the Libertarians still had brains, and were indeed the Party of Principle.

On that note: All of you that so hate the Libertarians, the philosophical Libertarians, not the LP whack jobs? Take a look at the real positions taken by the TEA Party folks… Looks an awful lot like the LP platform from the eighties... Complete with a serious lack of real leadership!

Even after all the bally hoo, I still see no real plan to:

  • Get the economy back on track in a meaningful way.
  • Restore the Bill of Rights and Constitution as it was meant to be.
  • Reestablish American pride and exceptionalism.
  • Restore the faith of the people across the world in America as a bastion of freedom and liberty.

As much as I admire many of those running for the office of President I have serious doubts about most of them.

Rick Perry: A New Face in the POTUS bid

August 15, 2011

Rick Perry, Governor of Texas has entered the fracas to become President. I for one am glad that he has. He brings experience and effective leadership ability into the contest. The usual suspects are already taking shots at him, and that, IMO, is a good thing. For as it is said; “That one is known by the enemies that he keeps.” HERE is a hit list that has already started.

The arguments against Rick perry that are listed are, at best, paper tigers that can easily be dismissed.

They say that his economic policy’s had nothing to do with how Texas is doing..? Then how did places like New York and Illinois, and let’s not forget the whacked out state of my birth California get into the current messes that they find themselves in if not from terrible executive leadership?

Next, that he is too conservative. Hell, just the other day he was being called a Libertarian with values, or something along those lines. In any case? Now hear this you closet commies. The United States of America is in fact a mostly Conservative nation when it comes down to the wire. Yes, I know, it’s wiki, but this one appears to be pretty solid.

Then they say that he is too cozy with special interests… That, coming from supporters of the obama..? Can you say preposterous..? I knew you could. Well, if the obama can get support from the Joyce Foundation, George Soros, the Brady Campaign, and the list goes on ad nausium why can’t Rick Perry have a few powerful supporters?

Untested at the national level? So was Barack H. obama, and the obama has failed the test in an epic manner.

Bush Fatigue? What..? Oh yeah, we are all so damned sick of the blame Bush rhetoric it’s pathetic! Or do they mean that because he is a Texan? Well, a long time ago, a Texan took on the chore of raising the son of a dead Marine. This Marine Corps Brat will never forget the kindness and direction given freely by a Texan, that just happened to be a Sergeant Major in the United States Marine Corps! So that’s what this Son of California thinks of Texas, and Texan’s!

Now for the disclaimers: I will be on Rick Perry’s ass full time if he turns RINO. He’s silent on the politically correct law that made ex post facto law the law of the land. If his balls were half the size of Texas he would issue a proclamation of pardon for the gun ban that involves ex post facto law as well as the taking of rights for less than felony crimes, any crime. His position on illegal immigration is unacceptable, period.
